Either by direct search or suggested video, welcome! you've made your way to the Rails and Ties Productions Channel. Based out of upstate New York, my mission like many other rail enthusiasts is to preserve the era of railroading I was born into. There are three main railroads in the Tristate area not far from my hometown that I visit frequently, those being: Pan Am Southern, Vermont Railway, and The Batten Kill. Between the three lines there is not a single GE locomotive owned, which is an incredible thing considering the current rosters of most modern railroads. Pan Am Railways- commonly referred to as Pan Am Southern because of their joint venture with Norfolk Southern corp- employs a fleet of 2nd and 3rd, and even a few 1st generation EMD locomotives. The same can be said for the Vermont Railway who connects with Pan Am Southern at North Bennington,VT- with the addition of a few 4th generations, namely their new duo of EMD SD70M-2s.
HD- Pan Am Southern (ST) RJED With Ex: QNSL SD40-2 Trio
A cold, blustery January 11th found me sitting by the D&H/B&M XO tower in Mechanicville,NY as the sun rose. After a few hours of sitting next to dead rail, a friend and I met up in town and decided to head down to Crescent. upon arrival It was only minuets before the deep toned horn of Pan Am Railways SD40-2 #3402 could be heard coming up the Rotterdam branch. Upon arrival we found not one but three of the "new" Ex: QNSL units in charge of ST RJED. After waiting for a CP high rail to clear the main, RJED called the District 3 dispatcher and was on their way east. After catching the train next at Fishermans lane, I ended up neck and neck at Johnsonville,NY. To keep ahead of the train I skipped Eagle Bridge and went straight to Hoosick Falls. Upon arrival I found that RJED had been held at Hoosick Junction, as ST local AD-1 had the main blocked off. Once they departed for North Bennington, RJED proceeded east and we caught them one last time in a gorgeously sunny North Petersburgh,NY. Turning back and heading for North Bennington, I was surprised to find AD-1 making slow progress up the grade and was easily able to overtake them for a shot at the Walloomsac trestle. Enjoy! -R&TP-

Переглядів 6 тис.9 років тому
After a 40 year absence of Mainline steam activity in New York State, Norfolk Southern and the Fort Wayne Historical Society teamed up to bring back the excitement with two all-day excursions hauled by the Nickel Plate Road #765. Running from Cheektowaga yard in Buffalo south to Corning,NY on former Erie trackage; #765 amassed staggering crowds all along the 260 mile (round trip) route. With an...

For weeks now I have been trying to catch an eastbound road freight on Pan Am Southern's west end. With road trains now picking up and dropping off in Hoosick Junction for the Vermont Railway, as well as running over night, this has been pretty difficult. It seemed that for a while, a train would run out of Rotterdam or Mohawk and outlaw in Hoosick Junction and continue east over night or early...
HD- A Day on the Batten Kill with G&J #4116: Eagle Bridge to Shushan,NY
Переглядів 1,7 тис.9 років тому
After a great Independence Day weekend, the Batten Kill is finally able to run back North to Salem as Pan Am Southern has dropped the two loaded hoppers they have been waiting on. In preparation for this move, instead of running north after their last trip to Eagle Bridge, both #4116 and #605 were left in Eagle Bridge to retrieve the cars as soon as possible and get them to Cargill. After backi...

HD- A Day of Traffic on Pan Am Southern's West End
Переглядів 7249 років тому
June 3rd was a very busy day on Pan Am Southern's West End, with a total of four trains with crews running west of the Hoosac Tunnel. The action began for me, mid morning in Mechanicville,NY where RJED kicked off the day of traffic, with MEC SD40M-2 #614; PAS SD40-2 #619; and PAS SD40-2 #607. Thinking the train would go straight through I headed straight to Fisherman's Lane in Schaghticoke,NY. ...
HD- Autoracks, Freight and the OCS on Pan Am Southern- 5/22/15
Переглядів 8139 років тому
Out in search of Pan Am Southern's OCS train, I was treated to a little more than i bargained for. As it would be, the handsome F units were the fourth and final train in a 'Parade' of west bound traffic. The first train- of which I had no time to set up for- was an empty coal train; after that was NS Autorack train 287; following 287 was Pan Am Local AD-1; and finally the Office Car Special. I...
HD-The Vermont Railway B&R Turn- 3/20/15
Переглядів 1,6 тис.9 років тому
Part of Fridays action was the Vermont Railway's Bennington & Rutland job coming to meet Pan Am Southern in North Bennington,VT. Todays turn offered a nice trio of red units: VTR GP40-2s #303 and #307 and CLP GP38-2 #204. You'll see the short south bound train arriving in North Bennington; cutting across a marsh entering town. Then, with the option of following AD-2 back east, or heading north ...

After many failed attempts to catch a train on Pan Am Southerns west end, my luck finally turned around this Friday! Cruising around the Hoosick Falls area, driving over the tracks in Hoosick,NY I stumbled upon two westbound trains back to front waiting for MOW to clear the main. First in line was EDRJ lead by CN SD75I #5774 and C44-9W #2530, then waiting right on their tail, AD-1 lead by Pan A...
HD-Pan Am Southern Train AD-2 and the Vermont Railway B&R Job 1/15/15
Переглядів 9 тис.9 років тому
Rails and Ties productions got an early start to the day Thursday January 15th, with hopes that the VTR B&R Job would meet with Pan Am local RJ-1 to exchange cars in North Bennington. Unfortunately I was notified from a friend that a PAS exchange train ran late in the evening the day before, but had most likely outlawed in Hoosick Junction. Taking the quick drive down to the junction from Benni...
HD- Conway Scenic Railroad- CN #7470 Steam In The Snow
Переглядів 4,8 тис.9 років тому
The steam locomotive is an extremely impressive thing to witness no matter what season. However, during the winter months when the temperature drops, every exhaust chuff shoots a massive billowing plume of white steam into the air making the experience unparalleled. We're at the Conway Scenic railroad which operates tourist excursions over the Maine Central 'Mountain Division', and today is a v...

For my Birthday, I got an early start to the day and headed out to Crescent,NY with plans of chasing Pan Am local train RJ-1 to Hoosick Junction and Ultimately North Bennington to watch their swap with the VTR. After a large CP freight kicked off the day, the slow moving local came creeping up the Rotterdam Branch...with an SD40, just what I wanted! Unfortunately it was long hood forward, in ot...
HD- A Morning on the Canadian Pacific- Plattsburgh,NY

Finally found some time to spend trackside in Plattsburgh and I was not disappointed. I headed out about 2 hours before Southbound Adirondack #68 in hopes of some freight traffic, and i was right! The first catch was CP608 lead by 2 CP wide cabs; #9361 (ES44AC) and #9702 (AC4400CW). The second train about 25 minutes later was CP train 930 (manifest freight) with a match set of two Canadian Nati...
HD-Heavy Tonnage on Pan Am Southern- Chasing a 6 unit Freight from Hoosick Falls to Charlemont
Переглядів 1,4 тис.10 років тому
Home for Columbus day break, I headed out to Hoosick Falls on Pan Am Southern's west end around 10:30 A.M. With in 5 minuets of pulling in, the horn could be heard of this massive 6 unit Pan Am Southern freight. The lash up consisted of 5 EMD SD40-2s (A few are SD45R carbodies, but they are mechanically all SD40-2s), and a leased HLCX GP40. With the fall colors out and the hope of seeing some s...

My return to the west end of the Pan Am Southern turned out to be well worth the trip home. While i was idealy looking for an eastbound freight, i was more than happy just to see a freight train with no wide cabs. Here we have a chase of westbound manifest freight EDRJ, with a match set of 3 Pan Am Southern SD40-2s (different car bodies, mechanically identical). Over the years Pan Am has acquire...

good catches of that NS freight and this high Iron excursion
What a true beauty!
Such a shame that they shut down, their last year in operation really sealed their coffin.
Another great video. What was a six axle flatcar doing on this railroad?
We have a RS-8 here in Brazil, on my channel has videos!
Run lots of those on BCRail in Canada.
In Britain, we have the class 37 which has a more brutal sound. Try them out.
Qui lindo ouvir essa canadense trabalhando , trabalhei com 7134, 7133 e com a 7110 da sr3 da RFFSA de 1988 ate 2023 pela CBTU _ STU BH , qui felicidade
These are hard to find in ho scale
Its too bad there isnt more alco equipment still around. Theyre amazing pieces of machinery!
I like the bridge spanning the river here in the very beginning of this video. If one looks closely at the pier in the middle of the river they can see a concrete riser atop the stone pier. The former structure (the bridge itself), be it a wood or iron structure, reached way down to the stonework, ,prior to the current plate girders.
I recall a pair of RS-3s working a line in the 70s. By the time they got to the crossing I encountered them they were just idling along quieter than the GMs and GEs on the route. I was told later they were rebuilt with 567s and sold off.
Take more VT railway videos. Not enough people are taking Vermont Railway videos this year 2023.
Oh the memories. The WM used them on the Thomas sub.
grate video of this holiday express excursion with 3254
Nice video.
The first scene at the crossing in North Hoosick was great. I grew up near that crossing in the 60s/70s watching a variety of worn out B&M power going up to the VTR interchange at North Bennington.
Just love that sound, 👍
That B&M 5 on her is Beautiful.
4116 probably burns as much lube oil as it does diesel.
This a 251 or a 244 power unit?
One block away from where I grew up in Hoosick Falls.
Saudades dessa locomotivas eu ia para o colégio ,os vagões eram rebocados por uma alco
Love the way that horn sounds echoing through the distance. Anybody know exactly what model or tones the horns are made of?
Nice
1:15
Cool thanks mate
😍😍😍 I love this sound!!!
Actually, I think that is an RS2, RS3s have 3 wheels on each side of a bogie. Still, great catch.
I want to ask a Question is that D&H GP38-2 still running in the D&H Paint Scheme on the CP Rail in New York State on the Ex D&H???
Not anymore
impressive stack-talk for an 0-6-0 :)
She certainly is a loud one
Music to my ears. I used to listen to the RS Alco's when they were mainline power.
It would be a lot better to follow the train as it passes then to stare at bare trees!!!
9:11 that train sounds creepy
I like first gen.four strokes more than steam.
Alcos were license-built in India in very large numbers, thousands actually (6000+)......they were in broad gauge 5 ft 6 inch and meter gauge of 2000 to 3100 HP for freight, passenger and shunting. They formed the backbone of the transition from steam to diesel starting from the 1960s.....later on, GE and EMD locos (4500 HP) were also produced. Now production of all diesel locos in India has been stopped, though a few thousand are in active service and will continue till their end of life. Indian Railways is shifting completely to electric locos....
The speech of the ALCO: “More Soot! More Soot! More Soot!” Seriously, this is the only kind of *Soot* I actually like to see.
Es una locomotora hermosa, buen video! 👍 Les invito a ver mis locomotoras a escala y de cartón ua-cam.com/channels/ea702JeTBaJbZBOAEb43Qg.html
News!!!! 3254 may not be done fully yet. Her frame is being evaluated but her frame horns are twisted. Something smoking could happen. 3713 must be worked first before anything else
Think your hot just imagine being in that alco locomotive !
Those alcos smoke like the old macks I used to drive !
WAY COOL !!!!! i WOULD LOVE TO BE THE OWNER OF THAT HOUSE WITH THE SMALL PATIO DECK NEXT TO THE TRACK...........
How old are these engines ?
Hi would it be ok if I used parts of this video in my upcoming video on the rs-3?
6:03 What? What? I laughed at that part 😂
They need to send that locomotive to be painted in the D&H Scheme
I've been waiting for this moment feat Christina .
What a cool loco
0:22 cool throttle up
"oh no a bl2 too"
