Minnow trapping through ice in may!!!
Here in Missouri we have a Limit of 175 a day per person traps have to be 1/2 inch by 18in opening not sure the size of trap
Why are the traps wrapped with black plastic?
I want 10punds
Are you using the spray foam on side of those traps to hold trap along the bottom of the ice? Or do they sink to bottom?
the traps are kind of tall the foam helps them to stand up if they get tipped over
I would really love to see more videos of these. Any tips?
Super nice!! Great haul!
Nice work, where do you get that type of metal ?
How many pounds per bag do you get?
about 25lbs
What kind of bait are using
Chicken liver, and cheetos
Hi there, do you have an email address? Thanks!
Any tips on locating suckers through the ice? I’ve tried the last few years and have not had any luck. I’ve tried bogs, ponds, lakes and rivers. Thanks
some lakes just have alot of suckers in. Sometimes if you set shallow you can get the smaller ones with a narrow throat opening on the trap so it keeps the bigger ones out.
we stock wild ponds with fry in the spring so there's a lot in them and they're hungry
You folks have really cool content! Thanks for sharing.
The underwater shots are very cool!😎
Thank you, I thought it would show how we hang traps in deeper water
Is there a line or float attached to the traps, or are they in shallow, still water that you just pull it up with the pole? Totally new to this technique. I just learned a new use for my chainsaw too---BONUS!!!
21:12 "Josh is tying the string on the trap." Be patient and all your questions will be answered.
Most traps are shallow enough we can reach them with the stick. Isn't that what chainsaws were made for.
This was a really good trapping day to watch! It would be cool to see the different traps and how they're made. Thanks for the great video. Much love from the Midwest US 💖
I moved here from Louisiana and miss crayfish and would love to buy from you when you have some
That is a mess of crayfish!
Ya Its kinda fun trying all the diferent traps, and comparing them, thanks
Hi there, im up in Longville. Was wondering how i can go about buying crayfish from you? Hoping to do a boil over the 4th. Would love to get in touch
sorry i'm new at this you tube stuff I didnt get your mesage till now. Tim
@@northcountrybait3898 all good. I would still like to buy some in the future. Any place you sell them or way to get in touch let me know. Im not the best at this stuff either.
Are the best leech ponds devoid of fish?
Yes usually but especially bullheads
How can you tell?
@@northcountrybait3898do you see an abundance of bullheads in the good leech ponds ?
Tim where do you purchase the printing tin? Thanks in advance.
What Bait are you using??
slices of white sucker, the best bait I've found
Those r Small
What do you wrap on the outside of the traps?
Just 6 mil. black plastic
Do you sell them
yes, 3.00 a pound
Hey great video I'm a bait harvester in Ontario central nice traps buddy I like the way you rig em ! do you place a clip or close pin at the bottom end?
yes, so when you lift them not so many slid out the bottom
yes it helps to keep them from flushing out when you lift them
Hi there I'am a bait harvester up here in Canada do you make your own B traps ?
Yes, we can buy them but it cost twice as much
Do you sell any traps?
sometimes, I have to get 3.50 per trap including string and float
Are you using the B traps for cisco?, 1/2" mesh? How deep usually? thanks
No, I use fike nets with 50' leads. The're not on the shore line for long so I have to catch them quick. And the B's don't work as good. 3/8, they gill in the 1/2 mesh
Waiting for there to be only that much snow so I can get to my good ponds again. Still have 3-4 feet of snow in the bush here. Theres a 3-4 inch crust of ice on 1 or more feet of slush over the ice. Makes trapping pretty tough.
It's been a long winter. We got heavy snow first week of ice, and it's just melting now. A lot of ponds died this winter
Do you find that red attracts more minnows? 3/8" hardware cloth has pretty much disappeared here where i am in Northern Ontario, is it still available where you are?
You noticed, Here too, especially the good stuff. Yes the red traps seem to work a little better, cant tell you why. But they do last a little longer also, because they're painted. I can get some cheap wire out of california, but the mesh is a little too big. About the same as a nineteen grader. And its welded.
We make about 500 to 800 a year. They don't all get set out, but it's nice to have them ready when the pond puts out a nice catch. Also, it gives us extra for testing. We do have a lot of theft sometimes, also.
Im a trapper in Northern Ontario. What are the sheets of aluminum from? Printing press?
Yes, I like the aprox. 24 x 32 cut in half and folded twice the best. I think it catches bigger leeches. liver or fish for bait.
Im a trapper in Northern Ontario. What are the sheets of aluminum from? Printing press?
Hello. Yes, they are printing tins from a newspaper printer.
This is sick! What do you guys think the season is for these guys? I want to catch for eating. I live in Minneapolis but am scoping out spots around the metro that may work. Also which trap would you all recommend ?
I start around the first week in june . then stop around end of August. Water temps play a big part . i make my traps from 1/4inch hardware mesh . i make them long rectangle ,they lay on the bottom better then the round store bought ones .check minnesotas fish regs for size of traps and limits . and i only keep invasive rusty caryfish .
@@ALLDAYBLAZER amazing dude thanks for the response. I live in the twin cities and am hoping to find out how and when to go to get good crayfish as imports of Louisiana crawfish are now illegal. I used to live in New Orleans and all I want to do is host a boil.
@@ALLDAYBLAZER is leech lake particularly rich in crayfish? Or do you think some place like lake Minnetonka would have em?
@@ALLDAYBLAZER does the bottom need to be rocky? I often go to a cabin near park rapids and hoping to catch up there too using this method
You can still have live crayfish shipped up from Louisiana, they just cost $$$$$. The lakes theses guys are fishing are infested with invasive rusty crayfish. Not all lake and rivers have them , the mn dnr has list of lakes and rivers that have theses invasive crayfish . the native crayfish are not doing because of the rusty crayfish. Thats why i dont keep native ones ,and the native ones are way smaller . Traps are easy to make from 1/4 inch mesh . baits that work , cat food ,hot dogs , and oily fish parts like trout or salmon . Well hope this helps good luck . And one thing respect other people's traps and spots . if you see others traps find a different spot .to many traps in one spot = low numbers in your traps.
nice quick too, and for sure your traps are a commercial grade I'm about to get in to the trade myself in Ont chow for now
I would like to know what you use for bait I'm also a bait harvester in Ontario looking for advice also the traps where to get those
Pierre Beaulieu there is a supplier called k traps in willmar, mn
I build my own most the time. Same basic ingredients as dog food I mix it myself. thanks for asking
What is your bait
same basic ingredients as dogfood we mix it ourselves
If you see two sticks in the ice , don't walk between them
How did you know exactly where that trap was?
i whent trou a chainsaw holle on and it fucking sucks
There's lots of holes in the ice. Try not to step in them
sorry about all the chainsaw noise . I haven't figured out how to edit these yet
I don't know why but most minnows like chicken liver
very cool vid what was the bait
where do you get those traps? post some more videos! very interesting to watch
How do you keep it down without the current moving it? I want to try for some Creek chubs and suckers.
The trap has a steel frame on the bottom that makes it a little heaver. It will roll away with a little more current though. Also we don't leave the traps for more than an hour usually..Suckers don't trap as good in the current as creekchubs and redtails and river shinners , try some kind of meat for bait or some white bread. If theyre there they should come in
So many minnows! Nice
