    The US energy guide treats it like a washer only, for some reason they can’t fairly rate it as a combo, this is true of other combo’s on the market. The Canada one seems to be rating it more correctly. In the energy guide site it’s referred to as a washer. It would be nice if they just gave two labels, one for the function of washing and one for the function of drying.

      Thank you. That explains the US/CA label difference and my energy consumption!

      @@mikeferryall1424 I have this model and this explains the labels, but it doesn’t explain the screenshots of your supposed energy use. One cycle you had said it was 22kwh for bedding. The compressor in this combo only pulls like 600 watts and total for the machine is 700 watts, assuming the electric resistance coil isn’t being used in the wash/self-care cycle. It would have had to run for over a solid day to use that much power on one cycle. I’m sure it’s a software glitch. Samsung isn’t exactly Apple when it comes to software, I can’t even access one page of their energy use section of their iOS app. Have to access it from the machine. In iOS it skips right past it, best I can do is take a screenshot in the half-second it’s on the screen. My cycles range from 0.8-1.5kwh, usually (and I’ve checked it with a watt-meter the unit is plugged into, the numbers are pretty accurate). If you haven’t already, go to settings and make sure the software is up-to-date. I had to update mine when I got it. If you don’t want it connected to wifi you can disconnect it later or delete the network.

      @@causarumcognitio Before the first update, the usage monitor was WAY off. After that update, the numbers started to make more sense. To get the numbers it was displaying early on, I would have needed to pull 30+ amps for the entire time the unit was running. Since this is running off a 20 amp breaker, I knew it couldn't be accurate.

      @@mikeferryall1424 I don't think I've had mine as long as you but in my impression, the Al Wash and Dry cycle seems to work like the normal cycle, but doesn't dry more than needed and also applies the energy saving function to vary the speed of the compressor. Clothing that has really dense material or is designed with balls of fabric (like a dress) needs to be set to "More Dry". But that Al cycle works for a wide variety of loads. Obviously it only uses algorithms at most on-site, but it's very versatile in how it detects the weight of items, adjusts drying based on humidity and I think it's remembering previous cycles it was used for and how they turned out. Keep in mind, if a machine can weigh a load before it gets washed, it's probably weighing them again when it thinks the load is dry. There are reasons that method can fail. This video, if you haven’t already seen it, has a lot of useful information for any owner or prospective owner. I personally don’t trust or like Samsung for appliances. I would have felt better with an LG, but this is without doubt the most powerful and largest combo dryer on the market. More importantly: the condenser cleaning system is the best. I’m going to get a water softener because, among other issues, the hard water could clog the condenser cleaner device. We only have 7 grain hardness but it’s killed things in the past. Not risking a $2,000 laundry machine. For the lint, I’ve seen videos about the GE unit that make me pity the owners even though they have that nice warranty, they have so much lint cleaning maintenance to do that isn’t even in the manual, basically running a giant bottle-cleaning brush to the back-left every cleaning. Meanwhile, we use our combo way more than a normal household and the coils are amazingly clean. ua-cam.com/video/vao_KqCzLUE/v-deo.htmlsi=ilV3NSz1PqPdn63M

    The app has on-peak and off-peak timing available for prioritizing the ai energy mode which seems to use it as a variable speed compressor at about 50-60% of compressor power.

  • @causarumcognitio
    @causarumcognitio 2 дні тому

    Not that it isn’t extremely efficient, but the US Energy Guide label, I think, is only a measure of it as a washing machine. I’m not sure, but I think there’s a clear reason for the discrepancy with the Canadian rating. We run ours a lot but $10/month is still unreconcilable with the estimate and Energy Guide only classifies it as a washer. They probably just need to go through bureaucratic hurdles to rate it the way they know is more appropriate.

    Did you see the testing on this thing before you brought it? After only 4 wash and dry cycles on a brand new machine, they pulled the entire machine apart and found lint on other areas of the machine. These things cost over 5k in Australia. No way would I get one. Same thing on the GE model

      I bought it from the Samsung Insiders program in the States. We were one of the first to get this unit and were asked for an honest review in exchange for a great price. We weren't able to see any videos or reviews prior to buying it. After I did my review, I saw that video where they pulled a machine apart and pulled out a large clump of lint between the heat exchangers. I also saw a video where after 40+ loads, there wasn't any lint in that same area. I think the lint video was a Samsung hit piece and the other was an honest review. Samsung has earned some hate and I think some people are still holding a grudge.

I hope yours makes it way back to Samsung so they can identify the root cause of the leak and improve the design.

      It was the water pressure regulator for my house. It was 24 years old and was no longer reducing the city water pressure. I was getting 100 PSI of water pressure which is too high and may cause plumbing issues. My regulator should have maxed out at 75 PSI. I swapped out the regulator and am now getting 50 PSI of water pressure. Here is a useful tidbit buried where no one will find it! A Watts N35B can be directly replaced by a Watts N45 regulator. Turn off the water, unscrew the large nuts on the old regulator and pull it out. The nuts stay on the pipes. Just slip the new one in (with new o-rings) and tighten the nuts. The N35B doesn't have rebuild kits available, which is a moot point because it needs to be completely removed to rebuild it. The N45 has a drop on rebuild kit and can be rebuilt while still attached to the pipes.

    Had my first major issue with this unit, thought I'd share/warn about it. I get this error code "5C6". Basically when the clothes get ready to dry, it cleans the heat exchanger first with water. This water for whatever reason just goes out the top back of the machine and it's wet everywhere. Funny enough, when doing a test wash, the water that goes to the drum and drains all of it at the end is perfect, no issues. But when water gets shot out in the top to prep the drying mode, it "wets itself" immediately. Any water that does make it to where it should be, gets drained out the hose later. Wonder if others have had this issue. This is after 50+ uses.

      @mikeferryall1424 I went ahead and popped the top open and the hose that routes to the coil cleaner was split open. Poor build quality, as that hose in particular had this line down the whole hose, adjacent to where the split happened. I replaced the 10 ½ inch hose with a thicker one of the same size (3/8 inch Inner Diameter). I cut it down to 11ish inches, snug them in place, and tested multiple times. I can't get it out by hand easily after putting it in, but put the clamps on anyway. Very snug and secure. I did the self-clean and dry to test maximum hot water and pressure. No isses, and the self dry evaporated all the spilled water puddles in the machine from the past leaks/floods.

    It is ventless, when dryer work, is it gonna come out a lot of heat air? thanks❤

      The air does a loop through the drum, evaporator and condenser. Initially, it will cool the room it's in. Once it's been running a while, it will give off some heat. It doesn't blow hot air into the room, just radiates some.

    Did yours come with a model specific manual? Mine came with manuals for “all washers/dryers”. I want to know all the maintenance things specific to this unit because I know there’s a lot more to it.

    • @mikeferryall1424
      @mikeferryall1424 3 місяці тому

      We had to download one from Samsung and print it. Like your machine, the manual ours shipped with wasn't for this specific model. The only maintenance I haven't done yet (and will probably never do) is to clean the water inlet screen. That requires moving the machine and removing the water lines.

      Same. General instruction booklet not specific to my model. Frustrating I will try to download as well

    The LG is the best way to clean the trap, but it’s on top of a front load washer and jumps up when the door is shut.

      Though its the easiest i think based off my ownership for 2 weeks that it is the worst at catching lint. So much gets past to the condenser requiring deeper cleanings every two weeks

    Maybe you could tell us, the curious ones, what exactly the AI does. (And why it cant tell you how much water is there to drain 😂) Thanks.

      I think the term AI was added by the marketing people at Samsung. Something to make it sound trendy and cutting edge but without anything to back up the name. The machine appears to just tumble a load of dirty clothes to get an idea on how much it weighs then adds water/detergent accordingly.

      @@mikeferryall1424 I thought it was supposed to be able to tell what material the clothes are made out of. Not sure how it could tell that though.

    • @mikeferryall1424
      @mikeferryall1424 2 місяці тому

      @@JPSurratt1986 I think it just estimates the weight of the load and goes from there. If it was smart enough to know what types of materials are in it, I doubt it would need all those cycle options.

    Thanks for posting this. Looks like it's a bit messy to empty this water chamber. Does that emergency drain hose come out a bit further to allow to drain into a bigger bowl? Look forward to seeing more videos on this.

    • @mikeferryall1424
      @mikeferryall1424 3 місяці тому

      No, that's all you get with the drain hose. I will just be doing the drain filter right before a load of laundry from now on. I will use the dirty clothes to soak up the water 😄

      hi how often you need to drain it

    • @mikeferryall1424
      @mikeferryall1424 Місяць тому

      @@srus4663 I drain it and clean the drain filter every time I refill the detergent reservoir. That's usually every 15-20 loads or once every six weeks. I have also given up on using the drain hose. I just put dirty laundry on the floor and unscrew the drain filter. The emergency drain tube is too short to be useful and I ended up getting water everywhere anyway.

    What are the options for spin cycle speeds? I'm needing one with a very low speed instead of just low

    • @mikeferryall1424
      @mikeferryall1424 3 місяці тому

      Most of the pre-programmed cycles do not allow you to change the spin speed. Most are high or extra high. The 'Wool' and 'Less Microfiber' settings do have a low speed spin as default. Less Microfiber does have an extra low spin speed along with options to not spin.

    What did you do with the drain tube at the back of the machine? We just got one and our tube is sooo long and we keep having issues saying it is not draining properly.

    • @mikeferryall1424
      @mikeferryall1424 4 місяці тому

      My drain is behind the deep freezer. The tube ended up being the perfect length since I am stretching across the laundry room.

    Do you know peak amperage on these? Can’t find it anywhere. Reason I ask is I want to potentially put two wide by side but would be on same circuit and don’t want it to constantly trip. Great in depth review.

    • @mikeferryall1424
      @mikeferryall1424 4 місяці тому

      I do not know the peak amperage draw. The manual states it needs at least a 15 amp circuit. Unfortunately I don't have a power meter to measure the max draw. The machine does use ~1.2kwh for a four hour cycle. That averages to 2.5 amps at 120v.

    Samsung offers a crazy long warranty on the one thing that almost never breaks - their motor, but I can only imagine what the service bill will look like when that thing starts flashing error codes on that fancy screen when it stops drying.
