Giant Redwood Removal by Bicester Tree Services Ltd - Horton General Hospital Banbury
Located at one of our local NHS Hospitals, after a period of decline, this magnificent tree died and posed a risk to staff and patients who used the entrance and adjacent car park. Standing at 135ft and with a base spanning almost 8ft this would have been one of the Giant Redwoods planted by the Victorians after its introduction in 1850. Due to the size and significance of the tree, and although the tree was dead, we notified the local council prior to its removal.

Roping limbs over a parking lot, you could have just hinged handled and tossed, notched that top and couldn't lay it flat, and you climbed the tree twice lmao.

Sooo you just dropped that mid parking lot, closed the lot, milled the wood and made firewood 😅 Should've just notched and drop if you did all that.

Yeah no doubt and why is he lowering branches and then topping the rest and just letting it hit the ground. And that definitely not 8 feet more like 4 to 5

How long did it take to mill the timber?

We didn't mill all of it as it was so big. It took about 5 minutes per plank.

Where will the wood go? What will it be used for? A new life out of an old tree.

It will be chipped and sold or given away. Arborists are generally not as sentimental about trees or conservation as people might think.

It has been milled and will be used by local woodworkers/carpenters as it is far too nice to chip.

Its amazing to watch how the tree disappears in such a balanced way - it looks very hard work!
