A graded 16mm short film. These are low bitrate footages mostly taken in 1080 years back using Sony 5100, A6500, Fuji Xt-3, I am trying to see if I can grade them to look closer to quality of Sony FX3 or FX30. To cover the quality flaws, I emulated it into a 16mm film look. #16mmfilm #filmemulation

Rule one. Don't hire/drive a Volvo, everyone will assume you are an idiot.
Ha, that opening shot at 0:06 was about 100 metres from my childhood home. Didn’t you stop in the pub on the left, one of the claimants to be the oldest pub in England, but then there are a few of those😂
I believe it is a matter of law that car rental firms are obliged, on fear of heavy fines, to hire crooks as employees. They are always trying to bilk you. NB If there is a white line down the centre of the road and the vehicle approaching you is on the other side of that line then, 999 times out of 1000 there will be no problem, Pretty much every car fits into painted carriageways. Country lanes, not so much.
Yup. A very disappointing experience with the rental company. We rented vehicles from different countries and companies..but this is the first time having such issue.
I'm really happy that you didn't just stick around London, I'm really happy you went to other parts of the UK.
Thanks. We only wish we had more time in The UK!!
in the uk google maps is pretty accurate with the lane you need for the junction, only times I've known it to be wrong is if there are roadworks or if the layout has recently changed. For future reference we don't have "highways" we have motorways, A roads and B roads. The roads at about 4:30 you can avoid 99% of the time. For parking google it before you go to the place EVERYTIME, as a brit I always google it. Car hire companies are absolute scammers, unless you absolutely need a car, stick to public transport.
Yes we do have highways. A highway is any road or path that the public has right of access over. Motorways and other major roads are managed by "National Highways". The rules covering the use of roads is called the "Highway Code".
Thanks for the info. Parking in Bath was particularly hard to find. After Bath we did google for parking before arriving in any major cities, and you're right life is much easier that way. Cheers
Ahem ... Highways and Byways ...
Glad you enjoyed your trip. Regarding the very narrow roads these are officially know as "single track roads with passing places" that means it is only wide enough for one vehicle to pass at a time but every hundred meters or more there is a wider spot were 2 vehicles can pass. So what you do is drive along and as you pass one look down the road for the next or anyone else coming, give way if there is someone else there. If you meet someone where you aren't in a passing place the vehicle that can reverse most easily backs up. So if you are following another car don't crowd it as the driver might need to reverse. You might see signs saying "passing place" do not park in these and leave the vehicle you are blocking the road. You can pause if you want to look around or need to read a map. Parking in major cities, particularly ones that tourists might visit York, Bath, Oxford, Edinburgh. USE THE PARK AND RIDE. You park the car outside the city and get a bus service that usually runs every 10 to 15 minutes until sometime in the evening. The bus takes you right into the heart of said city, ask the driver if there are multiple stops. Most of these cities everywhere you might want to visit is going to be within a mile of the centre where the bus drops you and you can walk there more easily than trying to park. Driving in central London just NO. I wouldn't attempt it and i am British, but not a Londoner. Parking is nearly impossible and very, very expensive and still not convenient and then there is trying to find your way around. Get a travel card / Oyster card it gives travel on all the trains and buses in central London those run all day and most of the night. Shame about the car rental firm, they all do some version of trying to chiesel you with extra charges on the rental. Basically, because they are all trying to show the lowest rental rate on price comparison which wont actually make a profit, to get you to select them and then try and make it up by applying expenses you hadn't anticipated.
Thank you so much for the tips. I think these will be valuable info for any tourists intending to drive in the UK. Yah we did our research and did not drive in both Edinburgh and London. Public transport is sufficient for touring around London in particular. Cheers!!
Do you self a favour and avoid the UK. It's not safe here anymore...
Thanks for the advice. In fact, I will be releasing a video in this regard.
Thank you so much for this review
You're welcome! Glad you found it helpful.
Great review, thank you for sharing your experiences 🙏

hmmm too much colour grading. almost ruins the footage
thanks for watching and the friendly reminder. Cheers.

thanks for watching. Will try my best to upload the next video soon!!

glad you love it. I think its one of the better value for money accommodation in Sentosa.

Is the whole film shot on DJI Osmo Action 4? 0:43 for example! Doesn't look like a "action cam" 11:39 too!
no..not all footage taken with action 4, and the 2 u mentioned not taken with action 4. Around 70 to 80% of the vlog taken with action4
@@papayajuice ah no worries, im still learning about cameras, what did u use to take those shots? i love the cinematic feel, like it could be on the big screens
Sony A6500 and A7c
@@papayajuice gives that nice cinematic feel!
5:40 are you shooting with any filters on here? shooting in log? black mist filter? diffusion filter? nd filter?
all shots taken in log, no filter, just post editing.
5:32 looks so good, for a camera that is relatively good price! I think I might get the osmo action 5 pro! your colour grading is awesome its incredible how cinematic you can make it with an action camera, which is what I want to do also
yeah man, its a great camera for its price
nice and relaxing video. Cant wait to visit Perth soon!
Have fun!
Can you please share the workflow of colour grading. And which software you use ?
I am using FCPX and Davinci Resolve. In my opinion Davinci is a more capable and powerful editor, but its power hungry and need better system. It's hard to share colour grading workflow in comment. However if you're interested you can check out the videos from this UA-camr www.youtube.com/@Romafedorov

Hi , Hi, we're going for a 7-night trip to Chiang Mai early Nov and are concerned about the windy, narrow roads. We're thinking of taking a minivan to Mae Hong Son, renting a car there, and then returning it in Chiang Mai. Is this plan feasible?
I suppose you're talking about taking a mini Van to Mae Hong Son Town? It will be a 6 to 8 hours journey there from Chiang Mai. We did not go to Mae Hong Son town during our trip. The furthest we went along Mae Hong Son Loop was Ban Rak Thai. And I don't think there is any major car rental services at Mae Hong Son town. I think your best bet is still renting a car at Chiang Mai itself. Personally I think the Windy road is really not that bad as long as you drive responsibly. But if you're really not comfortable with driving, there are tour services available to bring you around along Mae hong Son loop, but will be less flexible if you know what I mean. If this is your first time to Northern Thailand and wish to explore Mae Hong Son Loop for a 7 nights trip. I would suggest to base yourself at Pai or around Pai for 4 nights ( as this is the most popular town and there are quite a few attractions surrounding it) and Chiang Mai for 3 nights. And if you're thinking of heading to Ban Rak Thai, I will strongly recommend to stay there for a night. You can refer to our Entire Northern Thailand Vlog for details. Cheers and have a good trip.
Do you require your DJI Phone app to take videos and still shots, or is the camera independent of the DJI app? Great video!
You do not need the app to operate the camera. U can operate the camera entirely with the buttons and touch screen on both side of the camera. But if I remember correctly, you will need the app to register and activate the camera and do firmware updates. Cheers.
Hi, nice vlog just curious how did all 4 of you book 1 room did you not put 2 kids 2 adults in the booking?
actually we can't remember. I think we booked from Agoda, and one of the limitation of such 3rd party agent is even if a room can accommodate extra beds or additional children, once you input 2 adults 2 children, they will prompt with you no room available. What we normally do is input 2 adults 1 children. And during check in time just request additional beds if required.
@@papayajuice Thank you so much for confirming.
great video and review!
Glad you enjoyed it
can i ask you about how can color grading intro like yours
Hi, it really depend on what camera you using, what profile you recorded in, what software you using etc etc. I'm actually still learning too. There are actually tons of free tutorials on UA-cam you can search for, Cheers!!
I am curious - where did all 4 of you sleep?
It's super king in most hotel, which is enough for 4 of us then. At times 1 of us will sleep on the sofa if available.
Nice video man. Your color grading completed the story you wanted to pass. I love it, nice colors!
thanks!! comment appreciated.
How did you get such great audio in the wind at 0:18 ? Was it recorded from the onboard microphone or added from another source?
you're absolutely right, it was added sound effects!! No way that was from the onboard microphone, It was very windy that day. But it did help a lot when I use a dead cat in such condition.
can you share your colors upgraded
Hi, I am not very good in grading. You can find a lot of good grading tutorials in UA-cam for Osmo action 4. Basically I just applied the official DJI D-Log LUT and play with the color and exposure a bit. You can download the LUT from here www.dji.com/sg/downloads/softwares/dji-osmo-action-4-d-log-m-to-rec-709-vivid-lut
The comparison from original footage can be quite subtle on some footage. In the first place the original footage was already upscale as it was exported using a 4k timeline . But some of the footage can still see substantial enhancement. Need to view in 4k and bigger screen to really see the differences.

hii, may i know time5:13 and 7:03-7:18 is at where?
5.13 was along hooker valley track. 7.03 was along the way to Mt.Cook. 7.18 was end of hooker valley track. Basically it was all at Mt cook. Basically Hooker valley is just one of the few hiking trails at Mt. Cook. Check out our entire NZ series, there are quite few nice hiking/walking trails at Mt. Cook. we did not even have time for all of them, we just did 2. If you like the scenery, it's all at Mt. Cook. Cheers
Wow you took your son there? Respect
Thanks, actually the trail itself is not too difficult, some parts are more rocky but most importantly we just need to make sure our kids don't do something funny at the edge. Cheers!
Hi. How many days did you spend at Margaret river?
3 days 2 nights. But technically only had 1 full day to really explore around. We reached around late afternoon the first day and had a full evening there. Second day we done most of our activities and 3rd day we check out early in the morning to our next destination. This was our second time there so our activities are different from our first visit. So if you have time can consider staying for a 3rd night as its quite a relaxing place with some places of interest surrounding it.
Hi, enjoy your while Chiangmai video series, thanks for the content. 👍👍 Just wondering that average how much for the rental car daily?
Thanks. Slightly less than 1200 thai baht per day for our case. The price is inclusive of $0 excess insurance coverage. I think in general u get discounted rate the longer u rent.
I love my osmo action 4. Really nice video
yah, I am finding myself using it more often. Cheers!
No burst mode! No action camera!
What software do you use to colour your D-log footage. And how big usually are the 4k 10 bit log files? (say for like 1 minute of footage)
Fcpx. 1 min around 900+ MB.
Amazing, I have one and I´m so happy with it. Which rig did you use?
Thanks. I did not get any additional rig. Just the standard package box set. I just attached my existing mini tripod/handle for the grip and that's it. Now I mainly use the osmo action 4 to replace my mirrorless camera+wide angle lens for POV shots whenever there is ample light. Its just so convenient.
