This movie and anything else from Takashi Miike were the only things my dad refused to rewatch or he stopped in the middle. He said to not watch it and I did. I learned to listen after this movie at age 13.

Disappointed. I've heard this movie called one of the best horror movies of all time, but it's not even close. They should have cut 30 minutes out of this picture. The much hyped torture scene was "meh".

Tbh honest i love how effective bodyhorror works in japanese cinemq and mangas. Comparede to western movies like Saw, they have that creepy feeling to it and makes the whole thing way more scarier. o_O Can anyone recommend other japanese movies with bodyhorror in it, that are serious. I do not mind if they are low budget, as lont they are made by filmamkers htat were aware of their limitations. Dunno if the last thing make sense. :)

God this movie scared the shit out of me as a kid! I was around 12 when I watched it and it scarred me for weeks! The house I lived in at the time, the staircase was behind a door but above the door was a glass panel which you could see the very top two steps… THIS FILM HAD ME CHECKING THROUGH THAT GLASS PANEL EVERY DAMN TIME I NEEDED TO GO UPSTAIRS 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I recall bringing along two female friends from college to watch this movie. They got disgusted by some of the scenes and used their assignment folders to shield themselves from the scenes. Eventually, we left the theatre with the two ladies smacking my head with their folders.

Man, this scene just got worse and worse...

In the novel that this movie was based off, this never happened. In the book, the music producer Mr Shibata whom Asami was dating (the man in the sack in this scene) was screwing another woman behind her back. Any man who hurt Asami reminded her of her father, who abused her as a child, and had no feet. So she would punish anyone who hurt her by cutting off their feet, so they would have the same impairment as her father. When Asami discovered Mr Shibata's infidelity, she began cutting off his feet, but didn't know that he had a heart condition. As she was cutting off his feet, he suffered a heart attack and died on the spot. There was a dream sequence later in the book about a crippled man confined to some dank room with a bottle of alcohol, but it was nothing like this.
