the 7artisan lenses is a great choice if you dont want to spend much on lenses. I love their 55mm F1.4. it is super sharp!

Those phones doesn't have optical zoom. Do you mean their secondary cameras with longer focal length? Well, in any case, I don't know, sorry.

@@tkermi Huawei phones have optical zooms, using a series of lenses mounted sideways in the camera and a prism to divert the light through them, somewhat similar to the Pentax prism found in SLR's, but miniaturised. The P30 Pro is x5. The P30 light is x2. Zoom will not allow the camera to access these optical zoom focal lengths, limiting videos to x1. These optical Zooms can be found on other smartphones using this ingenious arrangement and 10's of millions have been sold. They completely leave iPhone and Samsung cameras behind, particularly because they can use all focal lengths up to their maximum optical lengths. I want to know how to circumvent Zoom apps limitations - ie the problem that Zoom won't zoom.

@@joedowdenwatercolour9090 I'm aware of that tech and it's really nice for phones. But it's not optical zoom. The focal length is fixed. For example the P30 Pro has that 125mm (35mm equivalent) focal length, but it's a prime lens with AF (with its own sensor), no optical zoom. I like Huawei phones and still use Mate 20 Pro 🙂. But, yeah, it would be good to have an option for changing between phone's different cameras / primes.

@@tkermi Yes, I agree totally it's a telephoto really, as optical lengths of 1X and 5X fixed. However, I've found it rivals Nikon D80 18mm - 140mm Zoom in sharpness. It's based on software but I don't mind either way, it's the awesome video quality I want to use. That fact that it's not a digital zoom if purely academic from my viewpoint. It's nothing like a digital zoom. I need to shoot on 2.5 - 3X. Photo image at 4X is so good I can publish in magazine. I've compared with Nikon D80, Sony RX100 MK5 and it compared extremely favourably. It would be good if ZOOM would allow zoom in for filming artwork being painted. It means I can have the phone up and out of the way. I've heard I can set up one phone as a webcam to allow it to be used as a Zoom on ZOOM. I got the cameras for shooting on ZOOM and they have tended a really useful app useless for what I needed. What's the point if they won't let you zoom in? I have used video cameras of various types and they all time out after a while. Both Huawei phones will film indefinitely. I need three hours uninterrupted filming.

@@joedowdenwatercolour9090 Yeah, though sometimes I have seen the "Field-of-view fusion” zoom to create too obvious stitching lines / softening where the used camera module changes. I mainly do wildlife still photography so that's obviously too hard job to handle for any phone camera. For that stuff I prefer to have FF and at least 400mm f/5,6. I would love to have "a big white" like 600mm f/4, but they are out of my current hobbyist budget 😒😂. With 35mm equivalent terms for example the P30 Pro 125mm lens is only f/32,7 so its light collecting capabilities aren't that good. For stationary vlogging many phones are quite nice (in decent lighting) but all are quite bad for motion or if you want shallow DoF. I think the bitrate just isn't large enough and of course there's only so much that can be achieved with small sensors (<1") - even with seemingly fast glass (35mm equivalent f is quite slow). Even though I prefer Android phones with larger sensors, I must admit that for smooth video with motion the iPhones might be the best choice. For a while ago I tried a free app (called Iriun - if I remember correctly) which had the option to choose between my Mate 20 pro cameras (front, super wide, wide and short telephoto). But only with native focal lengths and no cropping / digital zoom. I had constant problems with the connection to my laptop though, even with USB, so I couldn't use that app.
