This is the second video aimed at community nurses who work with laryngectomees after they are discharged from hospital. Other health professionals may also find the information of value.

This video, and the second part, are aimed principally at Community Nurses who look after laryngectomees when they are discharged from hospital. It should also be of interest to other professionals including paramedics, A&E staff and nurses in training.

Laryngectomees, breathing through a neck stoma, are vulnerable in emergency situations. This video describes appropriate care when delivering oxygen or in resuscitation

The video describes the challenges faced immediately after a laryngectomy, the removal of the voicebox. There are problems initially with eating and a permanent new method of speech has to be learned. You will see many examples of how patient face up to the challenge and get back to a normal life.
