Does anyone know the part number for the oil pressure sensor/switch
What's the part number on the actual oil sender unit that's going in?
This will not give you a working pressure gauge. The gauge in the later cars is not connected directly to the oil pressure switch. The switch connects to the ECU and then the ECU basically fakes the pressure readings based on engine temp, RPM and the fact the pressure switch is closed. All you are doing here is sending varying voltage to the ECU (not the gauge) and confusing the code written on the ECU. The dash gauge on this setup can be modified to read directly from a sender but will require a voltage divider to calibrate it. If you don't understand what a voltage divider is then your best bet is to just buy an aftermarket gauge and sender unit and install it separately.
hey dude - i bought the track dog racing kit and they said their oil pressure sender would show me what I'm looking for on the stock gauge in my NB. As you mentioned, it doesn't do that at all. In fact, I noticed the wire they give you with the kit accidentally came disconnected and the oil pressure gauge still continues to appear as though I have oil pressure! I've been trying to get them on the phone to get a refund.
I cannot fit my hands, the tool and the camera into such a tight space... watch more porn bro, it's possible.
If prefer not to drink alcohol. That way I'm always ready to drive my car.
The best to put the needle at the right place would be to have a test gauge but if you dont not much choice but buying one might be good!
I bought a Miata with water damage in the trunk. I just got the title for it after 7 months and now the first thing is to fix the leak then paint inside the trunk and maybe weld the battery holder. in the trunk (cuz its gone due to rust.).
The new oil presure is also lot more $ lol
Good job and i love your smile! Handsome guy! lol
You can absolutely go wrong with beer. My husband worked on a car once, had a couple beers while he was working. This was back when he drank regularly so a couple of beers wasn't any big deal. Well long story short, he replaced the master cylinder for my brakes, but he forgot to secure the cotter piin. Later that night, my brakes suddenly just weren't there, thankfully it was late enough that there wasn't any traffic and I was close to home so I was able to limp to the house and use the emergency brake to stop when I got there. So, I suggest leaving the alcohol out while working on a vehicle. He figured out later that it was because it was hot that day and the beer hit him harder than it should've.

I was looking for my leak and when i removed my tail lights the sight of the leak i didn't have any gaskets I'M DEAD
So can I put that pressure sender in my 1999 NB? Or will my car not read properly?
Very nice video
Where can I get this part. I’ve called everywhere and they seemed to not manufacture it anymore. Anyone know the part number for the thermostat housing cover? Pls
Guys be careful...instead of a wire brush use a thin rubber scraper...that alloy housing is prone to scorning ...and if that happens your chances of a leak go up big time..and you don’t want to blow up your motor miles away from your house on the highway with no tools....
Why tf does no one talk about that if it's stuck open it'll overcool your car and if it's stuck closed it'll overheat your car
Amazing how you manage to make a simple repair so gross with your comments.
Anyone know if the oil gage is supposed to be sluggish like that? Mine moves fast up and down as I accelerate.
Yours is correct, thats how the factory ones work. His needle might not be on all the way or the sender isnt as quality as an oe piece
how DARE you wear a BMW hat while making a Miata video! Unsubbed! oops, I don't sub to you, so I will SUB, and then UNSUB to get my point across! :P
Great video please get a proper roll bar
Can anyone guide me here? I have a 1992 miata with a swapped to NB engine. The oil pressure gauge does not work probably as the previous owner who did the swap did not the wiring. my idea is to put an original NA sensor and do the propper wiring. but will it fit in the NB engine?
Thank you! A two minute video will save many miatas. This leak caused my car to not start, the ground cable corroded too much. It took me so long to find this leak.
I’m having the same issue
@@alexandermurillo1103 I recommend replacing the gaskets and taking out your battery and cleaning the terminals and cables. I wish I did this sooner with all the water in my trunk, it started to ruin the carpet as well. After replacing the gaskets, no more issues. I used a pair off of ebay and black RTV to seal.
I have a 2006 NC MX-5 GT. My tail light assemblies have only 3 (three) nuts to remove per side. You show 4 nuts. What year is yours? Replacement gaskets not available on NC 2006-08. Only available for 2009-15, strange?
James Smith The Miata in the video is a 1990-97 NA Miata which the procedure is the same as in the video to remove the gaskets.
You have to replace the gauge. They use a different resistor. It won’t be an accurate reading unless you switch it with the 1994 or earlier dash gauge.
Andrew Bruckbauer yeah i was gonna say this also the gauge has to match the sender if it doesn’t it won’t work right even flyin miata swap guide says this
Sorry to reply a year later but I just got a 1990 JDM import 1.6 that’s fitted with Lockwood gauges that I’m thinking could be off a later 1.8 as the redline on rpm looks lower than standard. My oil pressure gauge when hot shows about 4 when idling then when you rev anything over around 2k it is just maxed out at 6. I’m a little worried about it but what you say makes sense about the resistor, you don’t happen to know if using the later clocks will make it read high do you? I have tried an oil change with fresh 10w40 semi synth and genuine mazda filter, the oil stays clean and doesn’t burn any, engine is silent running.
How'd you know you needed a new thermostat? Good video!
derekisthematrix overheating.
Or overcooling jesus christ no one mentions that if it's stuck open it constantly thinks the car is overheating
Does anyone know what size those bolts that fasten the tail light assembly to the body are?
What year Miata is this my sister's has this engine but it's the wring onr for her model
Miatas from 1990 to 98 are practically the same 👍
quick video! Thanks for the help!
This should be pretty much the same for the nb, right?
Very helpful. Thanks
Hi😁

Hi
Nice
Zack, your video was very nice. You did a good job on the mod, and the video; However, here is my story: I own a 92 NA with a sender/gauge that I have driven for twenty-six years now, and, I own a 01 NB with the fake-gauge setup; The thing is this: the NA sender/gauge is THE REAL DEAL. It will read oil pressure enough to worry you, and in a good way; it is a REAL OIL PRESSURE GAUGE and one that is totally factory; it is worth seeking out how to replicate this exactly. Here is why: In my fifth year of owning the 92 NA, I was running long-drain intervals on AMSOIL and AMSOIL lofted-fiver filters; I made a mistake though, I tightened an AMSOIL oil-filter back in about 1997 with a fabric strap-wrench (bad idea!) instead of tightening it by-hand; Because, when I put a pinch on that filter with that strap-wrench (my bad!): it left a fold/crease in the thin metal of that filter; That filter held up for many miles and many months (about six); One day, I turned into a sweeping curve (not a turn) and out of the corner of my eye, I saw "it" glitch: my oil pressure gauge glitched to ZERO; I messed my pants - and turned the key to OFF in a span of several seconds. (I admit, this is true). I coasted into a nearby parking lot, this was a Sunday afternoon, I was on my way to my girlfriend's place; I pulled the dip-stick on the engine, and there was nothing on it. I walked two miles and bought a few quarts of cheap oil at a convenience store, as an educated-guess, and poured in three or almost-four quarts of oil. I was just sick to my stomach; this NA had maybe 50k miles at the time; I nursed it home, three miles or so back to the house; and put it on ramps, and saw it: that creased/cracked oil filter. I was just sick; I got a FRAM on there, and fresh oil into it, and the engine was fine after that! My lucky day? Yes. That gauge saved me! I have 300k miles on that NA now and I still own it; I have an 01 NB as well. The demonstration of your gauge and sender install - was very nice; My gut tells me that it will not protect you from the kind of mistake that I made, however. So, this is my story to share with you and your audience. These are tough engines - but that gauge saved me on this day. Thank you for your video - and stay involved and keep up the good work my friend.
They changed it halfway through the NA, so yours did have a real gauge but cars after 1994 or so did not. You can see the Miata in the video has a passenger airbag so it’s a later model and didn’t have a real gauge
tldr
Loved reading this, idk why but reading about this little cars being enjoyed 4 years before i was born makes me happy lol
my 1991 miata oil gauge flutters sporadically. do you know why that is? is the gauge bad or the oil pressure switch that you replaced on your car?
The fluttering is normal. Mazda actually replaced the gauge and oil pressure sensor in later cars to not be sporadic because Miata owners were getting scared my the moving needle (the actual pressure readings). To eliminate customer inquiries, they replaced the gauge and sensor so that it doesn't work at all (it just turns on, and off...that's it). This video is showing how you can make it work like your 1991 does (however it won't work exactly, because the gauge he had still won't jump around and reflect real-time pressure readings)
damn that wheel is clean!
Finally a video on this. Like the footage keep it up. Pretty informal👌🏽🤙🏽
What year is the miata?
No offense to the poster of this video but that pressure gauge DOES NOT WORK. I have a 96 and swapped out the sender and gauge with OEM Mazda ones (which the moss kit does not use). I sources them from a junkyard, spent $28, and it actually works as Mazda intended and looks factory. Just wanted to put this out there for anyone who is thinking of doing this mod.
My question is these would swapping the sender unit and the gauge into a 99 nb would work and be plug and play?
Good video (funny too) But there’s a few unnecessary steps: 1) battery can stay connected 2) you do not need to drain the coolant from the radiator unless you feel like replacing your fluid 3) radiator hose does not need to come off thermostat housing. I just unbolted my housing and let the fluid in that area drain to create less waste Hope this helps some viewers.
1/2 inch open ender? I'm pretty sure Japan has used metric since forever.
you are 100% correct sir
1/2” and 13mm are about the same
@@aygwm using imperial tools on Japanese machinery shows a lack of appreciation.
This is just a huge "L"
Great video Zack for real! This is hopefully gonna help me quite a bit, and you were absolutely right there aren't too many videos around showing this! So thank you!
I don't understand why it doesn't move much. On the actual working oil pressure gauges, they bounce from between the first and zero to all the way to between the last mark and full. Is there any followup to this? Did you do everything right? I think if that's all you get, installing an actual oil pressure sensor and after market gauge would be preferred if you really care what your oil pressure is.
goodeggpro Yeah, they changed the gauge at some point where it just slowly goes up or down as opposed to the older unit where it's more or less an instantaneous difference. Not sure what the point is here.
he changed the sensor but not the gauge the gauge had to match the sensor for 89-94 na cars you have the proper gauge it’s a true oil pressure gauge and sender. the 95-98 gauge and sender are just idiot lights hence why the sender was so small all’s it does is check to make sure there is a certain amount of pressure and it says your good. in order to be a true oil pressure gauge you have to swap in a 89-94 gauge for it to read oil pressure and move properly throughout the oil pressure range. flying miata also says the sender has to match the gauge cluster range or it won’t work properly. this guy did half the work and pretty much still only has an idiot light
thanks for the video mate!
you just helped me out a great deal! fellow Floridian.. what's your Instagram name bro?!
lets see a cold air
Neat
could you please give me the linl of where you bought this? thanks,!
Any auto stores have thermostat just make sure it has tiny one on the thermostat.
Thank you for the greatest video on how to do such a complicated thing. Your unbelievable help with this task is amazing!
Haha how have you been, bro?
It has been ok. Im sort of in quandary with school. I will figure it out though! How about you?
I'm chilling. Making these videos and working a lot at the moment.
