The strike is defined as the direction of the line formed by the intersection of a fault, bed or other planar feature and a horizontal plane.
A strike is a compass direction on a map view.
The dip is defined as the angle at which a planar feature is inclined to the horizontal plane.
The dip is perpendicular to strike and measured downward.
When a vertical cross-section is perpendicular to the strike of the beds, the inclination is seen in the cross section is called the true dip.
Any angle of dip other than the true dip is called is called an apparent dip.
And the direction is called apparent dip direction.
The amount of apparent dip is always less than the true dip.
The true dip always one of any bed but the apparent dips are many.
