I've lately taken to using this method to set the Z axis zero on our Shapeoko XXL. Can't quite figure out why I didn't think of this before, or why this isn't more commonly used, but it seems to work great so far.

Changing and Setting Z Axis Tools in Carbide Motion for Shapeoko Manually

Not sure if this is a hack workaround for Carbide Motion, or it's the way a real machinist would do it, but here's the solution we came up with to reset tools to the Z axis zero on a multi-tool job. Please feel free to comment with your ideas and suggestions. The usual solutions are to split the job up into separate g-codes for each tool, or to use BitSetter ($120 from Carbide, or several off-b...

Love it,
I have had this exact saw and fence for over 20 years. It works flawless, never felt the need to replace it and I use it all the time.
Are there any up graded fence for that model saw ?

Minor correction. The arrow buttons adjust the position .5mm.
What if you use the "probe" to set the length of the first bit, then when you swap bits it's already at the perfect height. Would that work?
