This is my first video that might be helpful to people who are starting to learn how to paint on glass. Hopefully you find some of the tips useful. In this video I am using different techniques: paint, enamels, stain and sand blasting. You will also see how to airbrush without the airbrush, and why sometimes it is useful to mix paint with glue! Please forgive me the poor editing and the backgro...
This is an ancient and mesmerising process, showing a fine grasp of portraiture in glass. Excellent work. Thank you for these insights. Ps. One thing I am more than curious about, why did you use such hedonistic heretic as a model for Christ ?
Awesome :)
Great tutorial. Look forward to more
Great tutorial, and great music 😉. Usually I don’t paint on both sides at the same time. I was nice to learn something new. Thanks Isabela. PS: which kind of green you using, pls.
Yeah depends what I'm doing, but it does save a firing here in there to paint on both sides, do some trials ans see of it works for you! The green is from Reusche called Dark Green
👌👋👋👋
Thank you for giving us an in sight into your process
8:51 good points
5:44 you matte on the other side ? And with old Water /gum Arabic ?
That's right, lines and matte is the same paint, just added more water to thin it out. I paint on both sides because I like when the blackest blacks are ''sandwitched'' between the sheer layers, it softens the effect slightly. By no mean a ''rule'' to follow, just something I like for myself
@@izabelacarlucci2129 I think I lack too much knowledge to appreciate that part. Need to do more .
Surprised you don’t do multiple layers at once , like other great ones. I can’t . But I also hate water ;)
yeah i am not that great yet unfortunately, still so much to learn from the big names! Still not comfortable to paint too many layers at once, fear of ruining it overtakes me
@@izabelacarlucci2129 I so so agree … I need to train so much more .
Very nice work.
Great tutorial Isabela. Thanks!
Finally! Another great - as always - tutorial from Izabela! Thank you so much!
Izabela, will you be posting more videos?
just posted new one today, thanks for your patience!
Great video . How did you get the starry effect on blue background.? Thanks
hello, sorry for late response. the starry effect is thanks to the enamel and it kind of makes itself when fired - the spots where the enamel dripped thicker when sprayed melt this way. you can easily achieve that by mixing paint quite thick and spray it with my silly ''manual airbrush'', just let some heavy drops of enamel get on the surface
@@izabelacarlucci2129 thank you so much for reply. I thought you were going to say flash glass which is out of my price range so happy it was enamel. Fantastic piece of wrk
@@cathmaguire7887 yeah i always try to avoid flash glass if i can haha. you can always color your glass with enamels and then sandblast as you would with flash glass!
Amazing work! I love that you used Lemmy! Gained a new subscriber!
Do you recall how many hours it took you to complete that face once you started painting until your last firing? Including the firings.
hello. so sorry, i never take time so im not sure
So beautiful! Thanks
What type of glass do you use when painting ?
hello, i dont have a specific one brand, i just shop randomly depending what colors i need. for clear glass i just buy regular replacement glass sheets from home depot, cuz i'm cheap haha
very good tutorial, so much useful, thanks a lot
Really nicely done shading. And a great design!
🇬🇧 I make stained glass, so as a beginner this theory plus practical was very helpful. You accent allows people to consentate more on what you are saying. Aciū
❤. So rare a woman like us working with this marvelous Art
I'd love to see more about the face sketching.
i always know to pay attention when a tatt'd artist says this is for beginners, professionals probably wont learn anything. mad respect. I learned a ton, and I thought i was professional-ish
So cool ❤
Thanks so much for making these videos. Where do you buy your paint brushes?
hello , sorry for late reply, my brushes are from Peli Glass
Thank you for sharing, I’m excited to start practicing soon :)
I really admire the shading you used for the folds in the cloth. Maybe in a future video you could go into more detail on that?
Thank you! I will keep that in mind
It's so interesting to see how different artists tackle the same processes and problems. I've learned from Williams & Byrne, Derek Hunt, Peter McGrain and others, each with their own approaches to tools and techniques, but I learned new things from this video that I'm going to add to my own bag of tricks. Nice work!
I am Brazilian and i work with stained glass, is very difficult find materials for work in stained glass in my city. I love you work. Congratulation. This Jesus looks like a Lemmy from Motorhead hahaha I loved that!!
Thanks man!! Best of luck on your journey in stained glass art

Thank you so very much for sharing this information....I’ve been waiting to find a step by step of layers of stained glass portrait painting video on UA-cam you’ve made my day...What’s the very light paint called?
Hello! Sorry for late reply. The color is Yellow Brown and I buy it at PELI GLASS
Thank you your video really helped me understand the different techniques. You are very talented xx
you are very welcome!
Omg this was fantastic. I loved loved the gilders glue paint technique to save extra firing. I’m amazed it doesn’t affect the paint. Thank you. For sharing
thank you for your feedback!!
Thank you so much for sharing. This was wonderful to watch
Thank you for this excellent tutorial. I have been experimenting with stained glass and am eager to explore these painting techniques. Also, your accent isn't annoying at all- I think it's lovely.
thank you for posting these videos! Would you ever consider making a video or talking more about how you learned the craft? I’m just starting out and would love tips about how you got apprenticeships, etc
Hey Anna, thank you for your feedback. I did not plan on making a personal video but with your encouragement I might :)
This was fascinating Thank you Patricia
Omg I love this video tutorial, wish I could see up closer but even so I love your teaching and painting tutorials….I absolutely love the brown and the green butterflies 🦋 I’m learning to use glass enamels so this video is fantastic, Q: did you paint the chocolate brown paint ontop of the trace lines or on the reverse side? I can’t wait to see the portrait tutorial one, portrait painting in glass is something I would really love to do, I want to paint my grandchildren in glass. Thanks for the tip on the pinstripe brushes :) looking forward to seeing more of your videos x
Thank you so much. I will buy a phone holder for my next video so i can keep the camera closer to the work area. To answer your question - everything on the brown-orange moth is painted on the reverse side. The green one is painted with enamels only so it is all on the front side
Congratulations Izabela! Another beautiful demo done. Keep going!
Thank you 😊
The colours on the enamels are very beatiful. Is there something you would recommend? Im looking for transparent and vibrant colours .
Hello! The only enamels I have ever used are from www.glassenamels.eu, the blue, yellow and green ones are very bright, all transparent and you can of course adjust the level of transparency with the thickness of the layer
@@izabelacarlucci2129 thank you very much for answering ! ^^
Brilliant video! Great to see how other artists work. Thanks for sharing!
🖤🖤
😲 wow
This was the most thorough and helpful stained glass video I have seen. I have a much better understanding now. Thank you.
thanks so much for the feedback, new video coming this week
Thanks a million!
Thank you for posting this. I am beginning to paint glass and this was very informative. This is a craft where it's really hard to find good information. Please post more if you can.
Watching this again for the second time, I have a question, what colour paint did you use for the skin tone? this really is a very informative tutorial by the way, I can’t wait to see more videos from you, keep up the brilliant work ;)
Hello! Thank you for coming back and I am sorry there have been no more videos. Workshop is closed for the summer but I will be back with more in just a couple of weeks! For skin I used Yellow brown F6045 from PELI Glass
Fantastic explanation of your painting processes, a joy to watch. Will you be showing more videos in the near future of your glass painting by any chance? what enamels are you using if you don’t mind me asking?
hello, thanks a lot for the support. Yes, I will be making more videos soon! The enamels I am using are made by master glazier here at the Vilnius Art Academy, so it is not a brand
If you are still interested in these enamels, they have finally launched online store www.glassenamels.eu
