Knots and Hitches
Knots and Hitches
In todays video I want to show you three basic hitches that are going to help you on your next outdoor adventure.
I'm going to show you the clove hitch, wich I use for various things, for example to tie out my tarp. This knot is particularly useful where the length of the running end needs to be adjustable, since feeding in rope from either direction will loosen the knot to be tightened at a new position.
I use the clove hicth quit a bit in my video on tarp setups with no trees, check it out:
ua-cam.com/video/iM6fId2nCIs/v-deo.html
The second hicth I'm showing is a timber hitch. The timber hicth is a non-jamming knot and even after heavy pulling/lifting it can be untied very easily. I used this hitch in my DIY Tripod video:
ua-cam.com/video/inl0VrYMHHo/v-deo.html
The third and last hitch is the marlinspike hitch. The marlinespike hitch is a temporary knot used to attach a toggle or stick to a rope in order to form a handle. This allows more tension than could be produced comfortably by gripping the rope with the hands alone. It is useful when tightening knots and for other purposes in ropework.
And as a bonus I'm showing you the double fishermans knot. This knot lets you join two shorter pieces of paracord to form one. That can come in very handy if you don't have a long enough ridgeline for your tarp setup.
And if you don't want to rely on paracord at all for your setup, then head over to my previous video on a diamond shelter:
ua-cam.com/video/RWCE2oJHiFg/v-deo.html
So these are three basic hitches that are going to be very useful on your next bushcraft outing.
Don't forget to like this video and let me know what your preferd knot is.

DIY Bushcraft Tripod

DIY Bushcraft Tripod In todays video I'm showing you how you can build your own campfire tripod. With a piece of paracord and three branches you can build your own tripod. It'll be strong enough to hold a billy can so you can cook some water over your campfire for some tea or a soup. To build in you are going to be using the timber hitch, the marlinspike hitch and my favorite, the clove hitch. ...

Bushcraft Shelter - Diamond Setup In this video I'm showing you a quick and easy way you can set up a bushcraft shelter. This shelter type is known as the diamond setup. And the nice thing about this setup is, you only need a tarp and a knife. No paracord and no stakes. Just pick up some deadfall branches and make your own stakes using your knife. This setup is very roomy and big enough for two...

3 Tarp Set-up without Trees In this video I want to show three simple and easy ways you can set-up a tarp shelter without trees. With just a tarp, stakes, paracord and two treeking poles you can set up great shelters. If your bushcraft tours ever take you out of the bushes and above the treeline, these easy set-ups can come in handy. The first shelter is an easy lean-to shelter. With this set-u...

Why didn't you just ram the pole into the ground rather than tie the pole to another attchament point (the tent peg) which you did ram into the ground ..? None sense isn't it?

  • @stewartlancaster6155
    @stewartlancaster6155 2 місяці тому

on the tent setup I put the rear pole outside the middle rear of the tarp and use a paracord line from the loop on top of the tarp. this means you only have one pole inside the tarp and more room for groundsheet etc.

I was thinking you could bring two tarps and bring a foot to put under your treck pole so it doesn't puncture the bottom tarp. Steak-Out the top tarp, put the ground tarp in the put in center pole and boom!

Pup tent 1 end might be covered , a little, by another tiny tarp or hanging prayer shawl or rain jacket hood top on supporting trekking pole or stick. Lean-to or pup tent side toward wind/. rain. Blessings and Todah for peace and quiet & your time up there!

Pointer- On the last setup, to avoid the center pole and allow you to place an optional ground cover, join your two poles in an A-frame configuration across the entrance and stake straight out from the opening. Gives you great unobstructed area then inside.
