Made in China or India?
That my friends is what's called "taking a Dump", not good for Merc! Damn shame considering what that anchor sells for.
Wow,what a clusterfuck
Geez ... what a expensive and painful hobby just to go fast on the water and more dangerous than a motorcycle ... I had a few speed boats in my day and what a overrated experience and money pit to just go sorta fast with bad control ... its all good till you hit a boat wake wrong and the whole thing is out of control ... Pass .... if you want to feel speed and power ... ride a motorcycle ...
Had a ride on a bike once. Always got my thrill from water. Been in the drink a couple times. So much better then landing on pavement and metal I think. No speed limits on water except in designated areas. Cuts down on speeding tickets. I would rather get my trills in the Sun going fast in a bathing suit and life jacket instead of leather suits on hot pavement. We boat in groups and hit the beaches and restaurants, it's a blast. Easy to pop out for a 3-4 hour run and do 100-150miles of boating. We have lots of water ways in Ontario, Canada. Where I live, endless boating opportunities, short distance from my home.
@@MurphsFiberglassingGotta love people telling you that you're having the wrong kind of fun then try to explain how their fun is the only way you're going to have a good time. I'm pretty sure you know what you like to do.
Spanner may have not been torqued enough from the factory . Any surface piercing prop will have water slap whiich causes vibration and can loosen things up . Housing could possibly still be okay as long as oring surface is good , but putting pinning screws through the housing into the carrier would be advisable.
I'm with ya. Thinking it just wasn't torqued enough. They do wear out with a surface prop but that was too quick.
New mercury lower unit not designed for surface prop?? Specially a 30? My 2 cents.
wow - that sucks Chris. I wonder if pinning the carrier would help? The lack of oil on the bearing is another issue again. Are you going to replace the whole thing?
The oil hot and under pressure while running most likely seeping out the carrier. Never notice. Now a pocket of air. At least water would of cooled some. Not sure what to do.
"Staged event"
Cheap Chinese crap
Tie on ya anchor rope unbolt the engine and you got a black anchor
I remember when the Mercury Optimax became known as the Poptimax😂😂😂😂. My dad was a huge merc guy until one day a merc out of the box was bad. He bought a Yamaha and never looked back.
Same here with GM until I got lemon and no one gave a crap.
@ same. Dealer said you stuck with it and Mercury said whatever the dealer said Never again. One of pops Yamahas was a 60 enduro. Ran it on a rosborough 18 when they made them. But the engine had a gallon gas tank inside the cowling and once started, it ran on kerosene. Kerosene was much cheaper than gas at the time. May still be, not sure. Yamaha never brought that motor to the USA. Great motor.
My dad worked at mercury in the 1980's. He said that at the end, they brought in teams of yamaha engineers from Japan to go through their entire product line and manufacturing process before he was laid off. So, there are things in play that maybe led to this problem with quality. They also moved a lot of manufacturing from Wisconsin to Oklahoma. Not sure about the culture in Oklahoma, but in Wisconsin it's roots are German.
At 20 seconds in, you hit something prob. bottom
That's what I thought at first, it is a river. It was my lower unit bearing seized up.
My evenrude 140 looper runs like a dream since 1985 would still be screaming around but cdi parts out of Mexico are trash
Two strokes, Ole reliable
I got 3 of those too.
No really doesn’t want to turn over. You need Yamaha or a Honda 😢
Can anyone explain how this is filmed from the rear while he was underway? I have seen cars like this but I dont have a clue how its done.

@@MurphsFiberglassing Interesting thank you
These new Torquemasters dont hold enough oil IMO. Its like 17 ounces.
I'll be watching my level a little closer now. LOL
You hear allt hose other boats that are running?? Yeah they are two strokes ! Running !! like the one thats dragging your 4 stroke turd in !😂
We got a few 2strokers. Wanted a new as well, not much choice today, 4stroke only.
I had a 2017 115 horse. For a new motor it ran rough sometimes, coldblooded. Hesitated. It is gone, it was on a tracker pro xs, loved the boat, motor not so much. That is why I sold the boat.
Newer generations of the 115 are much better.
@brianburkhardt771 Mine is a 2013 mercury 4 stroke. I have had it 2 yrs has been a great motor. I called the prop Depot in Tennessee and told them what I had and the sent me a new prop they worked their magic on. I put it on $900 later and was more than I expected. Before the boat ran to flat trimmed up properly and couldnt get anymore than about 5400 rpms at about 51 moh, and now the bow comes way up at 5800 rpms and 57mph. Huge improvement.
@eddiemoser8829 I had a stainless prop on it, fast boat mine would run 61 mph on a good flat no wind day. I owned a 2006 tracker with a 50 Merc on it. That was a good motor wish I would have kept it hat boat. That 115 was a runner. Just ran rough on low idle sometimes, it would cut out running half throttle. Just did not like it. She Gone!! I bought a cayak lol.
A lot of comments, but none of this makes sense. I think he’s actually trying to blow a motor just to prove a point. As a bass fisherman not sponsored by mercury. Those are the best motors out here. He probably works for Yamaha. And yes, and yes, all my personal boats have mercury’s and look at the motor itself. How old is this motor and how much maintenance has been done on this old motor? They can say whatever they want. We’ll never know the truth.
Always been a Merc Man. Lov this engine, it's a beast of a 115. Running 78mph @ 6100rpm, red line is 6300. 2021 with 130hrs. Only maintenance so far is to change the engine and lower unit oil. It was my LU that gave jammed up from the performance prop. Going to have to beef it up. Update ua-cam.com/video/OUzmIkCbzLs/v-deo.html
I can teach you how to correctly operate that boat, cheap too!
Some people post ignorant responses to this video who know nothing about high performance boats and motors. So they just post what they think they know. Those are small hub big ear high pitch props and are light weight made to allow the motor to spin higher rpms and allow the 1000lb boat to first of all get way up out of the water which is quite normal for low water pick up lower units to still flow enough water through the motor and at the same time expose some of the diameter of the big ear props out of the water which is normal for those types of setups. Now... To dogmaticlly say what made the motor quit... idk. I wasn't there and I didn't troubleshoot as to why it happened. I have a four stroke 150 on a 18ft bass boat with no upgrades other than a raked prop that gets my boat out of the water enough to put me at 57 mph by myself with a full tank of gas at 5800 rpms. In the past I had a 96 Gambler 209 guide edition which was set up similar to the boats in this video. It had a 2stroke 225 with ceramic intake reeds and went around 75mph at 6000rpms. It was fun but cost alot to operate and fish local tournaments too. So I decided to go to a more standard type bass boat with a four stroke. I love it. It sips the gas and more reliable and affordable.
Thanks for the reply. Agree most don't understand the running of high pitch performance propellers. Propellers are your boats transmission, one which you dial in with the propeller to the motors setup and performance. In my case it's the lower unit that has failed not my engine. I have added an Update link in the description.
New mercury for ya
Was motor properly broke in? looks brand new.
2021 Got a 130hrs on it. The lower unit is what blew up. Lost oil. Motor ok.
After 2 minutes with 2 idiots this isn't worth watching
Love my Etec
NICE V KING
awesome boat! she really scoots!!
Thanks. It was my LU that blew up. Working on it. Be ready for Spring.
You make it look so easy man!
Thanks
Four stroke outboards can run all day at full throttle. My f90 Yamaha has hundreds of hours at 5,800 rpm. And my little tohatsu 20 is either idling or wide open at 6,000.
Two Stroke for the win!🥇
Got a few of those too.
Nice prop! I have to break down and put a an anti cavitation plate on and deal with it!
30" A5 Mercury Chopper
did it put a sun roof in the block?🤣
Turned out to be my Lower unit. Loss my oil I guess and it locked up. Motor ok.
Running an engine at those Rpms across the lake is about as ignorant as it gets, go run your car 3/4 throttle for 10 to 20 miles see how far you get...
Full out running we'er under 6100rpm. Red line on is 6300 on this motor. Most of the time only in the 5's. Can go all day like that.
@MurphsFiberglassing well this one didnt...
@@ChiefCabioch Turned out to be my lower unit. Loss my oil I guess. I have it in my next vid.
That’s just a silly thing to say. I run my 250 at wide open throttle in 20 mile stretches. Sometimes for an hour just full out. Only thing to happen in 604 hours was just like this guy, my lower gave out. Sheared the shaft off. These motors are designed to be run hard.
There designed for w.o.t. by the way my 4 stroke 1 litre snowmobile and r1 bike run at 12,500 ram's
surprised it could suck water up , looked like half the prop was out of the water .
It's got a low water pickup Bob's Machine Shop cone. Water enters from under the bullet of the cone.
@ sweet !
Great shots, absolutely love it
Paddle back over priced crap . Find a Merc 115 Tower of Power ?
Over Over Priced Hole in the Water you Through your money into ....
You're swinging that motor at 6050 rpm correct? Have you had some work done to it to be able to turn it that high? My 75 merc is rated at 5250. I can swing it at 6200 but i don't go over 5800. Im just curious to know if these 4 strokes can handle that over long term. Your thoughts?
Red line is 6300 for this model. It's just purring along.
@@MurphsFiberglassing ah ok. Did you ever get an answer on this one grenading on you?
@@CajunKracka I have another vid "Motor Carnage Update". It was the lower unit locked up solid.
@MurphsFiberglassing that is better than blowing the block. Good luck with it. She moves along great.
If you can roll at 6200 WOT and the optimum WOT is 5200, you need to reprop it. It's well under propped. At the minimum, research the proper mount height, trim angles, prop pitch. If your swinging that much more over design WOT limits, you're gonna grenade that thing or, at minimum, greatly reduce motor life. If money or long term reliability is of no concern, then carry on.
What type of engine is that?
2021 Mercury ProXS 115
I'm confused. Who/what was doing the filming? Drone or??
360 GoPro Max mounted on my stern light pole.

Love these boats, nice video
Thanks
Damn you sorta dodged a bullet, 14 thousand of them lol!
Glad of that. But that would of been Merc's 14k. Modified LU, my problem. Still better off think.
@ def need to have that Modded Lower if youre going to be hammering it or tuning the powerhead, warranties are nice too lol
Made sure I commented before watching lol My first guess would be: Looks like a rod broke or bent and jammed without leaving the block otherwise youd have oil everywhere in the water and smoke, that was a big shake😳
Next vid shows it was the lower unit that jammed up. Good think I was going slow.
@ wow that was a violent shake! Ive seen motors throw rods and it looks just like that and the oil galley usually gets compromised and oil just pours into the water. Ill have to check the next video now lol tight lines!
@@DCFloridasport I think it might have to do with the new motor mounts on these 4strokes. They sure bounce around a lot. That might of been a good thing.
@ youre right there...its easy when you have twins because the steering stabilizers help a lot, Ive found that a lot of poorly bled hydraulic steering systems that once bled thoroughly it tightened up the movement quite a bit.
4 stroke outboards are junk !!
Yeah, that effects the lower unit! 😂 More like because it's a new Mercury! 😏
No 4 stroke Mercury's are JUNK!!!!😅
your kidding yourself and obviously have no knowledge about outboard motors check your facts
Looked like you hit something
That's what I thought at first. Turns out to be the Lower unit bearing. Must of loss oil somehow.
top speed? Propeller?
78mph @ 6050rpm 30" A5 Mercury Chopper
you think water was getting in before or after it blew up?
May not know now. I guess before would give an explanation to why it locked up. I blew it out with air and refilled oil, not leaking sitting there for a day.
@@MurphsFiberglassing hard to know I guess
keep us updated on what failed!
Will have to get someone to take it apart, see if it's repairable.
@@MurphsFiberglassing good luck!
