    I know this is a late comment. When using iso files, do games run better with nkit.iso or normal .iso? I had a mixed bag of information and people talking about space saving, which space isn't an issue for me. Also, their information is from 2020 and quiet outdated. Personally, I just want the games to work. Also, your step by step is probably the simplest way of understanding all of this installation and is a great help.

      Thank you, we really appreciate the feedback. From experience the NKIT rearranges files and for some games you may experience a bit of lag. We personally prefer the .ISO and if space isn’t an issue then stick with .ISO

    I thought you would solder the loose button back on. I wonder if you could've just tweaked the pot on the laser to get it working again, or better yet maybe some bad capacitors were the reason it wasn't working well anymore and you could replace those without having to tweak the pot. That's a common problem on the GameCube anyway. I suppose if you already have the spare parts on-hand it's easier/faster to swap them in most cases, but for those watching at home and still at the troubleshooting/diagnostic stage, I would think they'd prefer to fix the parts they have rather than order new ones and wait for them to arrive. It's nice to keep using the original parts if you can also. Hopefully you at least keep the parts you removed as spares for later repairs instead of throwing them out.

    • @Gamextc
      @Gamextc Місяць тому

      Thank for the comment! We could have soldered the power button, but I wasn’t happen with the push mechanism so decided to change it. However, we could have tried that first before replacing. You could tweak and replace a capacitor or two for the laser, but from experience its easier to replace on the PS2 Slim. On other consoles e.g. Mega CD we have a different approach, depending on issue. Appreciate the comment, as it gives us a better idea of what the viewers prefer. Thanks again

    My model 1 jvc version stopped spinning discs out of nowhere. Main board already was recapped years ago, worked like a charm for years. Turned it on after many months and now it won’t spin discs. What were your problems before this fix? Did the laser replacement fix it? I read a thread on Reddit where the laser replacement did not solve the problem.

    • @Gamextc
      @Gamextc 2 місяці тому

      Our previous laser engaged and the disc span, but games wouldn’t load; Which is slightly different to your issue. A couple of things you can try before doing a deep dive are: Try an audio CD in yours and see if the spindle spins. If it doesn’t spin, some say the spindle may be too close to the laser, so you can see if you can lift it slightly. I personally (not saying I'm 100% correct, especially given I haven't seen yours) don’t think it’s the spindle, but it's worth a try. From experience the main culprits are the limit switch and bad capacitors. If you have a multimeter check to see if you can get a reading on the Limit Switch and Capacitors. As access may be difficult, we use a Test Harness to allow easy access.

    • @Gamextc
      @Gamextc 4 місяці тому

      50°C to 54°C is fairly normal, but we do recommend to put new thermal pads on if the console tends to overheat. New thermal pads will bring the temp down to about 43°C. Also, with the installation of a Noctua fan, it will help with the air flow inside the console. In this tutorial, we're using a Gamecube that has new pads and a Noctua fan - After 30mins of play with this console, the temp doesn't tend to go above 32°C

      Not a massive issue, but your options are limited. One option would be to use an SDGecko, which is a memory card adapter. This would mean your configuration device and device selection will be different, but you’ll achieve the same thing without an SD2SP2. The other option (which I’m not a fan of unless you’re comfortable with soldering and taking apart your console) would be to wire a Micro SD Card or SD2SP2 to the motherboard.

      We use 2 SD card’s for stability reasons, which prevents card corruption. One card has to be read, whilst the other has to write. We found loading everything onto one card corrupted the files and prevented us from loading a game i.e. it would always crash on the intro of any game we attempted to load and forced a manual reset. Separating the files made it stable and worked

    Nice video. The connector ribbon that you are heating is pealing up on mine so the connection is not flat. what do i use to glue it down? thanks

      Thank you! Assuming the screen is now working, the black foam strip under the LCD screen which was removed, is used to flatten the ribbon. If you find that it is not sticky enough to stick down, you can use some double sided sticky tape to assist. *BUT* ; before sticking it down, if you think that it will not flatten it enough (which it should do) slightly press the connector ribbon with some tweezers and use a standard soldering iron after it is preheated to gently rub the connector black and forth. Do not stay in one spot longer than 2-3 seconds. Concentrate on the area that is not flat. Continue working the area until it is a bit flatter. The aim is to reflow the solder and flatten it down. With all that said, the foam strip should do the trick. Hope that helps
