No offense to NIU or Purdue but Louisville speed and athleticism is much different. Louisville struggles against running QBs but like you said Leonard is going to have to throw the ball effectively against Louisville which I think ND wants to see anyway. Will be a good game. My prediction is ND by 3

Fast One:: My observation was that Shuler popped-up after an emotional play and saw "the guy in the green shirt" (an intern who often moves the ball on and off the field) and tossed him the ball; nothing malicious (Freeman found that out). Bonus: Spindler and Coogan did not have good games vs. 'Ville last year...something to monitor.

So far, Riley Leonard has been Brandon Wimbush with a better defense and a worse OL. Hopefully, he and the Irish offense break out this week.

Greg, l thought of the ‘92 secondary being the last secondary that matched up to this year’s group. Bobby Taylor was a freshman who Holtz inserted into the FS role, then moved him to CB in ‘93. He was referred to as the Eraser. That ‘92 group was really good. I also agree with the growth of Leonard in this game. It got lost in the aftermath of the first quarter, but it wouldn’t be unreasonable to think that he will keep on getting better. It’s only a matter of whether or not it’ll be enough vs. Louisville.

The score was 28-3 but some possessions were a bit wonky. I think Leonard played better this week vs last week. The scoreboard doesn't always tell the whole story

Riley Leonard still gives ND the best chance to win..

Thoughts: 1) imo Freeman coaches emotionally. When ND is doing well, he coaches better. When ND isnt doing well, he coaches worse. 2) should we maybe also question Guidugli’s ability to develop the QBs? 3) Despite being an Angelli fan, Im against switching the QBs. That being said, if Leonard loses the Louisville game, I’m open to switching. The season would be over at that point anyway, and you might as well see what you have next year. 4) at the very least, maybe pull Leonard for a series it two like BK did with Coan/Buchner and Golson/Rees.

This is just my opinion, I woulnt mind 10 away games and 2 neutral site games. I HATE HOME GAMES.

You don't (at least you shouldn't) expend a large chunk of NIL dollars for someone to give you essentially what Tyler Buchner could. With actually less success passing. There's simply no spinning that. Leonard, and the WR's have to get better. Marry his considerable running with some semblance of a downfield passing threat and ND will be hard to stop. Team being flat doesn't rationalize the NIU game offensively.

I could care less if Riley throws a TD or a bomb of any kind. We brought him here for his running ability. He scored 21 points last week. We won by 59. He can throw 10-20 yards...thats all I need. The coaches took him out of his comfort zone during the NIU game....that is part of why we lost.

If the Miami of Ohio can score 17, they can win. Best bet in college football this weekend is TMoO and the points. The “impossible” with ND football is always possible.

Thank you for the honest appraisals! Watching and listening to some shows, you would think ND LOST 66-7 versus winning. I believe the idea in sports is to win the game as convincingly as possible. With 362 rushing yards, and 66 points, it seemed very convincing, at least to me. The game plan took advantage of what Leonard does very well, and the results were great. Why obsess over what might not work three weeks from now? The defense played great, and was able to demonstrate some great depth. There are very few QB's who can run and throw.

I never saw a freshman class with so many highly underrated players!

Once ND stretched the lead, it seems ND/Leonard should have sprinkled in a few downfield passes. He needs some confidence in that area as well. Maybe he is just not capable.

ND struggles against the zone more than the WBB program, the past several seasons. Part of it is Riley Leonard. Part of it is Riley Leonard contracting Sam Hartman disease in that he doesn't trust his OL or certain WR's. The " freindly fire sack" and holding penalty by Knapp undid a sure TD to Harrison and a nice completion to Greathouse. The trust in Mitchell Evans has to filter to the other receivers. And some of that is on the receivers.

We all just want consistency. This team so far looks bipolar.

This is a massive issue, Riley can't throw the ball! He's Grad Transfer QB, this shouldn't be an issue playing the position. And Steve coming in and looking like a real Qb just makes Riley look even worse. Enough of the excuses from all the ND platforms on this QB situation involving Riley.
