Too Far Gone ADV

Приєднався 18 кві 2018
Thank you for visiting my youtube channel. I started riding Adventure motorcycles in April 2018, so depending on when you read this you can do the math and figure out how long I've been riding 1000cc dirt bikes, at the time I am writing this not very long. Before Buying my first ADV bike, I used UA-cam to see what this sport was all about. Now as a noob I use UA-cam for information about different rides their difficulty duration etc. etc. I made this channel for people to do the same to have their questions answered about the trips I have done. How difficult? Can a big ADV bike make it through? Can I attempt it alone? etc. etc. This channel is not about epic video production or daring feats or even basic skill. It's just me filming as much of my rides as I can and mashing a few clips together so others can see whats out there. I hope you enjoy and find it informative. Thanks for watching.
French Mines ADV Ride KTM 1090 Adventure R and 990 Baja
Join us for a 650 km adventure motorcycle ride round trip from the Lower Mainland to the French Mines near Hedley, BC. We started at 8:30 AM, explored the lower mine first, then continued to the upper mine. We were back home by 5 PM. This trip was my first ride on the 1090 in two years-an easy and enjoyable way to get back into the swing of things.

Riding from Squamish to Indian Arm and Wigwam Inn on my 1090. This road has had some major washouts cleared in 2019 allowing access all the way through to Indian Arm for the first time since I got my 1090. The road is easy with just enough hills and creeks to keep things interesting! There are a few faster section with watermelon size rocks poking out of the road surface. I managed to hit one o...

West Harrison - Sts'ailes 2019
Переглядів 1,1 тис.5 років тому
First ride up Harrison West - Sts'ailes FSR after the bridge at Bremner Creek was replaced. The road is in great shape except for a few loose hills. The section from Bremner to Tipella is fun but the rest is wide well-graded gravel with lots of traffic trying to run ya down. The best part about this ride is that it is one of the few that go right through and don't have to be backtracked.

Tom, welcome back! Where have you been for the past four years?
Thank you! Been riding my dirt bike and neglecting the 1090!! Waiting patiently for all of the washed out roads from November 21.
@TooFarGoneADV Got a Husky 350, let's ride one day!
Cool ride!
Enjoyed your comments and the review of your trip. Thanks
Nice ride👌
I've had some long days on the road, but not THOSE roads lol. That's a real iron man ride right there.
I'm headed out there for the first time in July, what trail was this?
Mostly 23/24 I highly recommend these trails!
At the end of the road do you find the old mine?
I didn’t find the old mine. I was running out of daylight but want to go back and explore more in the area.
@@TooFarGoneADV The cabin was very cool.
Thanks for doing this. I like the series of clips giving an overview. I appreciate the lack of music. I like to hear the bike and your comments.
The washed out look of your camera just makes it look like you rolled through in fire season.
Nice work! I believe I did it the other way, and a month later in a almost stock Nissan Xterra.
Nice! That's a hell of a ride for one day! Hoping to get out there myself this coming season. I've never ridden Harrison. Which side would you say is your favourite?
The East side is my favourite for sure! Hopefully the rain didn’t wash the road out too badly.
I'm doing this trip this summer going to clear creek hot springs then grizzley falls then nahatlatch fire look out with a few nights in between then out through lytton. That was a cool field that took you guys to a bit of a lookout near the end. Is that just off of Spencer rd? I would really like to check out that lookout.
Yes if I recall it is off of Spencer rd. You won't miss it you can see it well as you pass and if you are heading toward Lytton you enter on the far side.
@@TooFarGoneADV ok awesome thx!
Hey, great video. Just something you should tell your friend, explain to him the reasoning for riding in the right portion of all these roads, at least when your the first in the group. As seen clearly how much the FS ranger had to quickly move over so far out of his way because he seems to enjoy traveling around corners on the left. My friend hit some dork doing this and put him out of commission for 4 months and destroyed his bike. Its not fun when two bikes meet at 60kmh and you meet some dude. The road has plenty of room for both riders. Sorry to rag but I hate guys that put the rest of us in danger.
Too funny, your part about the grumpy idiot that works that ferry. I was there 2 years ago. 2 of us parked side by side talking waiting for him to come over and get us. He finally does and then gives us a wave to come down the ramp and load. So we start to role down the ramp and he comes un glued, screams at us that we are to load single file. Yep, maybe so but from us sitting there waiting never once heard that. So I snap on him. Guys got the most un stressed job in the world and cant handle dealing with 2 car's ever hour at the most.
Great job, this video was needed and not an easy trail on a 1090, I’d say your drop quotient for a trail like that was normal to light for what your riding. I’m usually loaded with camping gear when I’m in BC so doing these types of trail loaded is tougher yet. Have you thought about lowering it a bit? Be great if you did a run down on your bike too, what tires etc. Thanks for the vid!
Hi Tom, wondering if you know of the status of this road in Sept 2021, is it in similar condition and accessible to public? Thanks
I was out there in August and the road was in better shape than it was in this video then.
@@TooFarGoneADV and where did you access from? Is it “legal” to access? Looking to do a bike packing trip on a gravel bike
@@zachireland7363 HWY 99 to Mamquam FSR then right on Indian River Rd. All on Google maps. All legal as far as I know.
@@TooFarGoneADV cheers thanks Tom
Great video. This season we rode W Harrison to Pemberton, then up the Highline to Lillooet . It was a great ride. Hoping to get it done on the East side before the weather turns.
We just rode the East Harrison/ Kookipi pass this past weekend it’s in great shape right now. If you go I recommend riding up to the Nahatlatch fire lookout the road is challenging but the destination is worth it!
I’ve been looking into doing this ride, is it open to motorcycles all the way from summerland to tulameen? Did you need to take some road detours?
The trail is closed to motorized vehicles through Princeton. I took slab from just before Princeton to Coalmont.
good vid thanks for posting..just as you came off the BBar ferry and the short switchback at the sheep & wool ranch is where our gggranny was buried in winter 1931. If you read Cariboo Cowboy book about Big Bar early days the mentioned Henry Hinck is her son.
"Tom" needs to add some useful commentary on some of the more significant waypoints, distances between landmarks etc. "Tom" isn't the only one guilty of this. Most of these videos are little more than displays of photography, punctuated by irrelevant music and devoid of substance.
I make my videos more so people can judge the terrain before venturing out. That’s what I look for when I research a route. Everything else is available from the map. If you have any specific questions let me know.
Great video, I'm going out to Big Bar ferry on Sunday from Kamloops, in my old CJ7.
when i was there yesterday there was heavy machines regrading the road was nice and smooth i guess they want to keep it good for there hydro construction work going on there
is this after bremner creek i do not remember it being so narrow i was in my full size pick up and vehicles could pass one another
The video is from the entrance near Sasquatch Inn to the log sort at the north end of the lake. The road does narrow after Bremner.
i was there yesterday i did not make it to bremner which was my goal i made it 54 kilometers to doctors creek i think it was there is fallen boulders on the road but it passible with danger signs of unstable wall use at your own risk right before it a little nerve racking but i went through it with my full size pick up i must of been literally a minute from bremner creek but i had to turn back to get my boy from school
the trike needs to stay in their lane
Thanks for the great video!
Thanks for posting.
Great video, thanks for posting. Didn’t know motorbikes are allowed on the kvr? Can you give me some more info on that? Would love to try that. Thanks
Motorized vehicles are allowed on most parts of the KVR. Myra Canyon is off-limits parts near Summerland and Princeton are also closed, and I am sure other areas as well. Most of it is rideable, it is on Crown land and is considered multi-use. If motorized users are respectful of the environment and other users, I am sure it will stay this way.
Awesome ride guys!!!!! Can't wait to do this one day!
Awesome ride, I've been up there a few times on Quads and dirtbikes.
I don’t know if your active But think a guy could do this on a Klr 650 with camping gear ?
Awesome adventure! This easily qualifies as an "Iron butt" stage....:) Tom, how did you get from East Harrison to Lillooet? Did you take Shovel Creek FSR-Kookipi Pass-Nahatlatch Road and connect with WHY 1 at Boston Bar? Is there a FSR on the west shore of Fraser River that gets you directly to Lillooet without going through Lytton then HWY 12?
Hey sorry about the late reply clearly I’m not paying enough attention to my comments! Yes you can ride from Nahatlatch to Lillooet 100% off road on the west side of the Fraser.
I'm curious how long it took you to do that ride and how many kms? Thanks.
From Summerland to the Coq. was about 175km's and it took about 4-1/2 hours with stops for lunch in Princeton and other stops along the way.
@@TooFarGoneADV thanks!
Welcome back, Tom! Amazing clip, like always! I also ride a 1090R, can I ride with you guys? I live in MR. BTW, this looks like the road to Clear Creek Hot Springs.
Thank you! For sure you can join. Now that spring is here we should be heading out a few times a month. What's your schedule like? We always ride on weekends. If MR is Maple Ridge, then we are neighbours so it should be easy to meet up. I'll message you here next time we plan a ride. I will warn you most of our trips are planned the day before! If we really plan ahead for an overnighter or something planning might start two days before. Yes, this video is from East Harrison FSR I haven't been to Clear Creek Hot Springs, but I think you turn off of East Harrison to get there. Cheers,
@@TooFarGoneADV Thank you very much for the reply, Tom! I've been trying to reach you for months! Yes, I live in east Maple Ridge. I left you a message containing my contact info on your channel under "Discussions" tab. I'm looking forward to ride with somebody because riding alone gets you anxious. I'm available every weekend and for now I prefer one day trips because I don't have panniers and a tent yet. I'm working on it...:) Thank you again for the reply!
Sounds as good as it looks
Awesome job! Great sense of humour!
Your lucky because they stripped the deck out possibly shortly after you went through and didn't replace till spring 2019.
Nice ride. I wish I was riding right now.
Hi Tom! I'm glad you're posting again! I was wondering if I could ride with you guys this season.
Hey Tom, do you live in Vancouver area? We could ride together this season.
Cool video. Music got annoying pretty quick.
Tom. Nice to see this vid. I rode from Apex down to the highway this summer on my Strom 650; my first solo off road / off pavement ride. I found the last decent quite hairy. I'd love to know how you compare this rode to the road from Lillooet to Big Bar in terms of difficulty. Thanks for posting these BC rides.
The Headly Nicleplate road has more sheer drop-offs than anywhere between Lillooet to Big Bar. If you have done Apex to Headly, Lillooet to Big Bar will not be any more difficult.
@@TooFarGoneADV Thanks so much. I road Vancouver to Summerland , via Bankier going east, then Penticition Apex Headly, past the mine and down to the highway. T'was a butt-clencher for me, so good to know I may have passed the first serious test. I did lots of talking out loud to myself; 'look where you want to go'. Very much appreciate your ride videos.
Excellent vid, thanks so much. I'm a new adv rider and this route, from the Duffy up to Big Bar and around is one I'm hoping to do. Really appreciate the calmness of the video and commentary, and the happy absence of background music. A great resource for riders like me.
looked like a great trip! We have one one ferry near me in Utah and it's out of commission because the water level is too low. I hope it will get back running someday.
Not meaning to be nasty, but I don't understand why you would want to ride such big bikes through this terrain. I know they are better on the highway but my goodness what a lot of work and expense off road! That being said, I sure enjoy your videos. Thanks for the trips!
I wonder the same thing myself some days especially in the tough sections or when I am picking the bike up! The reality is the big KTM’s handle the dirt very well and still, make 700km days enjoyable!
@@TooFarGoneADV Fair enough! Thanks .
Hi. Thanks for posting this. I plan to drive some of those roads soon. Hey, just curious. Why do you stand up while riding?
FYI the West Harrison is fully drivable now that the bridge has been repaired. Standing allows the bike to move freely underneath you and prevents the bumps your riding over from being transmitted through the rider. Plus a few other reasons.
Interested in following a 2018 KTM 1290 super adventure r The wife & I are heading to sloquet hot springs tomorrow morning 2up (Its an overnight camping trip, probably arrive there a couple hrs before sunset) Leaving from the Esso at Bainbridge & Lougheed hwy at 10:00am tomorrow morning "Saturday morning" We're taking the Pemberton to In-chuck FSR route (We've gone the Harrison west side but it was a bit rough for 2up so we'll continue to go around Pemberton side for now until the west gets smoothed out a smidgen in the future) We can maintain 70kph on the In-chuck going that way to the hot springs, this would be our 4th time out there this year, but probably the last one before the snow starts We'll have our morning coffee at the Esso Tim Hortons between 9:40am & 10:00am if interested in a group ride Yes, we've seen each other on the other side of the road passing through squamish & a couple other places, true, we don't know each other, but we're riding orange so that should be enough right? Lol..
Hey Emery, Thanks for the invite! It will be an awesome weekend for Sloquet. I haven't been there yet it's still on my to-do list. Unfortunately, I have plans on Saturday and can't make it. I' sure we will cross paths out there sometime! Tom
@@TooFarGoneADV No worries, enjoy the weekend We don't personally know anyone with dual sport bikes & are always riding 2up alone (Our "R" is the one with the tall Givi windshield, Puig side deflectors & 3 aluminum KTM boxes)
Super nice trail. Enjoyed every minute. 😎👍
Looks like a good trail, where about is it?
Near Princeton BC
