E-MU E4 Sampler Bass Sampling Techniques

Going to start uploading a heap of videos on how to use your emu sampler to get some nice results, whether it be from a straight up sample pack loop or a recording from a proper synth. In this video I show how something simple like a VST distortion plug can compliment hardware based samples and visa versa. Any suggestions for new videos etc please let me know. Planning to showcase my various sy...

    People want to hear sounds. Everybody knows that. But most guys just wanna do everything the easy way in Ableton and they can barely get a sound out of the hardware. Then when they do, they just wanna quickly record the sound into Ableton and spend the rest of their time bragging about the hardware they barely know how to use. You could've demonstrated everything you were talking about in less time than you spent describing it. The screens are self-explanatory.

    25:31 Bullocks , you can perfectly overdrive your samples itb without ever exceeding 0dbFS , that what analoge modelled plugins are made for ( at least the good ones ) like cytomic the drop or klanghelm sdrr , mimicking the input stage of analogue consoles and filters ( ideal input at 0dbVU , depends on how the plugi is calibrated ) And even then , 32 or 64 bit daws will NEVER clip your audio internally , they have shitloads of dynamic range and headroom , the cliiping occues once it leaves the the DA stage , iow out of your daw into the real world . That's why your mixed shoudl be at imho -6dbfs , leaving enough headroom for the mastering engineer

    23:41 If you're recording /overdiven into the emu as you showcased with the emu input meters go way beyong ( without mixing desk) , aren't you essentially clipping the ad input (analogue -->digital ) , introducing digital clipping ?

    How did you set up your emu with your mixer? Did you have the main outputs going into a stereo channel and if you wanted to split your bass did you use the sub mix outs and go into channels 1-3 mono on the mixing desk thanks if anyone can help

    Hi does anyone run there emu through a mixing desk into there computer if so how do you set it up .....I.e do you use the submix outs into line 1 through 3 and out through the main outs to the interface or do you use the main left and right into 1 and 2 mono and then a couple of sub mixes into other lines and out through the main thanks if anyone can help

    Great Video! How easy is it to sample straight into the Emu from my computer/soundcard? What mode does it have to be in. If anyone could provide a quick breakdwon that would be highliy appreciated! I've just bought one and can't wait to get stuck in! Cheers!

      ALL types of dance music was made with gear like this in the 90s! I speak from experience. I wrote MANY breaks and house tracks in the 90s on EMU gear.

    So, just to clarify for myself: You are running a processed sample out the output of your sampler and recording it as a new sample through the input? Then you have a fresh, already processed sample that can be processed further?

    Might I suggest change the tubes in that art preamp compressor. I used the real nice vintage ones made in the USA. Trust me , I use the same amp and you'll wish u did it along time ago once u hear ur shit thru actual tubes. I'm convinced the stock ones that come in art pre amps snd placebos.

    I'm totally not a dance music fan. I make rap tracks, But you guys are doing what I'm doing as far as the sampling and messing with sound in the real gear. I use an older version of that emu. ( e4xt, and e/synth) as well as a butt load of other gear( as sceen om mu channel) it seems like we share the same obsession with sound texture. I'm just make videos on my broken phone So my videos sound hysterically terrible. Hahah. I'll get a mic for my phone one of these days .....big ups from Texas.

    I recently came up on a weird little emu sampler called e/synth. I can't find out anything about it but it seems like an early or base model for the e4000s? It seems to run the same OS and layout as the e4000s-e6400s. Have u ever heard of the e/synth ? I've been using it for editing samples and linking to eps (midi) but I feel like I could be doing so much more with it...

    Cheers! Re: the sweet spot on the master output knob (22:00): sweet spot for what purpose? Slight distortion? And also, is this with the master output internal menu setting on 0 dB? Just curious because I've been playing around and sometimes I have it up all the way for recording dirty into the DAW, also sometimes only at the halfway mark...

      Ahh nice one man, those are the top end e4's. I am trying to track down an old e64 classic so I can pinch the ASCII adapter aswell as the subout expansion.. My mate jaki has done that very thing and you get the emu classic convertors by doing so. They changed the converters once the ultra series came out. I'm also aware that Ed Rush & Optical's - Wormhole LP was made mostly with a 64 classic not an Ultra so its a must do upgrade haha. Thanks for watching ;-)

    • @bukaglasna
      @bukaglasna 6 років тому

      I head that about e64 classic also, but apparently u cant upgrade to eos 4.7 on those (ultra only) and that version supports fat32 and large disc drives and rfx-32 card works better with that os version. Rfx-32 is great because with it u can use the sampler as an effects unit or use external inputs as samples inside the multi setup. That's some powerful stuff and maybe more important than lower bit converters u get in classic e64(18bit vs 20bit in ultras), at least to me ;). Cheers

    • @cham3le0ndnb
      @cham3le0ndnb 6 років тому

      I have been on the E4 facebook page and various message boards last few days asking around for advice etc. As you mention you cant go beyond EOS 3.00b with the classics, I had EOS 4.01 on an old machine and that was a bloody nightmare to upgrade to EOS 4.7. It would take the well known flashprep, only responded to once known as CFLASHP.exe or something. I had to buy an old PC and get a usb floppy drive working with Windows 98 SE... One heck of a mission let me tell you!! Yea I am always checking ebay for RFX cards but I think the less I hunt for them the more likely they are to show up?! I'm certainly not desperate, I have been using the stock FX on the ultras since 2011 and I still think they are OKAY, nothing special, but the delays are maybe a little bit nicer than software based ones? I really find that the more time you spend in the chord editing section the less fx are needed, you can get wild results just with chorus and resampling, oh and stacking up the same samples in your chords!!! Layering and resampling goes a long way in my opinion. My good friend Ja Ki who also has EMU tutorials on youtube has the e64 subout expansion. He was saying they have a slightly more compressed sound, and he said there are noticeable benefits to the Ultra outputs. It's something I will do to the emu eventually. for now just lots of resampling and re-processing in other gear :-)

      Greets man, great videos. How often do you run your EMU live from within Live? Do you just sample in, twist up, record out? Also, what about breaks? I created a drum slicing preset in Live that's the perfect way for me to do breaks, what about in the EMU? Any more stuff on twisting up different types of sounds, even if they're bass sounds
