      Great question -- yes, as long as your objective is to only test functionality, you can test your MVP in parts. However, if you're trying to validate the business or product idea as a whole, you need to replicate the most important parts of the user journey to get a clear picture.

    So what's holding Chris Zhang in the US? Is it the 'freedom of speech' he referred to at about 46.0 min in the interview? Will he be returning to China permanently anytime soon? Afterall, the standard and quality of life in China is as good if not better than that in the US and the opportunities for him in the corporate and business world will be unlimited. Importantly, he will be closer to families in China esp I assume his aging parents.

    His long cautious preface about his true loyalities and beliefs system is very telling. It betray his concerns as an Asian American (especially Chinese American). The anti-Chinese hysteria and jingosim (McCarthyism version 2) that have reached fever pitch level now infest the current US bipartisan political landscape. This climate prevents any objective fair unbiased discussion about China these days. Freedom of speech is an illusion. No country in the world exercises complete freedom of speech. Even in the US complete freedom of speech doesn’t exist. Like this young 20-something Chinese guy, I used to believe that American was this utopia and bastion of freedoms, liberty and cutting edge progress. I moved to the States for 4 years from Singapore in the early 2000s. The green always seems greener in the other side. I was in the process of applying for my green card, which my O visa would have easily allowed me to get one. But I changed my mind half way through my application and decided to return to Singapore. It was the best decision I made in my life. In hindsight I’ve realised that the the U.S. is NOT the bastion of liberty and freedoms. I live à completely free life in Singapore without some of the do-called freedoms available in the USA. I don’t worry about gun violence, racism, crime, crazy health care expenses, peace of mind, security, etc. The life I live is on par with, or better than the best upper middle class American family. I don’t know if mr Zhang has buyer’s remorse. But as an American who has Chinese roots, he CAN’T claim to be part of China’s current success. He turned his back on his Motherland to adopt the ideology and citizenship of a country that now views his birth country as a threat that needs to be contained and suppressed. It’s a racist country in which he as a Yellow man, will NEVER be a first class citizen, no matter how much he tries to convince himself. Yellow is closer to white than black or brown. But he’ll never be white. Unfortunately, for him, that’s the reality on the ground. Good luck to him though.

      @@zhangyi5145 Yes you are right. China has some freedoms Singapore doesn’t have. In China, people can protest in the streets if they are unhappy with policies, etc. In Singapore we can’t do that. There is only one small park we can protest, but we must get a police permit to do so. Adult Singaporeans do vote for our government leaders. The average Chinese can’t. But Singapore is very fragile, that’s why we keep things very strict.

    • @zhangyi5145
      @zhangyi5145 Рік тому

      @@truthseeker000000 All I can say is voting is just a child thing to fool the people like a child. The worst thing for a country is to let average people to vote for their political leader. Nevertheless, average Chinese adults did have right to vote in China, but we just don't care to vote. Chinese political system is complicated but not difficult to know, but it's so huge that you have to put a great effort to research on it. A country is like a ship, when your ship is small, you have to be very careful to sail it with the RIGHT captain. And with the Chinese culture and the level of Chinese education, the government is not easy to fool people so that the governing manners of Chinese government is actually much loose than most of countries around the world and than people in other nations can image. The worst thing in current China is the level of unnecessary censorship against so-called freedom of speech. There are also tons of problems in China need to be solved to keep our society move forward.

    The backstory of the militaristic middle school must be taken in context. When he talked about how hard life was for students, you have to understand that their parents suffered even greater trauma in their early life. If I’m his teens the life expectancy of China was less than 50, his parents generation was less than 40. Starvation in the 1950s was a major threat and I don’t know any families that didn’t actually lose siblings. Without context, you can’t appreciate why parents push so hard on their one child to succeed.

    American public schools and education is in the gutter. China IS the future. America is a fading empire determined to hold on to its hegemonic power. This white guy describes China as a “capitalistic autocracy.. not a communist state any more..”. Well, he may not be aware that the U.S. has stopped being a democracy for some time now. As one of my country’s top diplomats told a Harvard University audience a year or so ago, many top political analyst agree the U.S. is now a Plutocracy - it is effectively run by the top 1% of the U.S. population. All this thanks to Cooperations and lobbyists that serve the needs and interests of the wealthiest Americans. Americans, including this white guy, live in a bubble and echo chamber where the American mainstream media feeds Americans with their anti-China propaganda, including fake ( yes fake, unsubstantiated ) evidence of Uyghur abuse, Tibet, HK, basically alleged human rights abuses. As someone from Singapore, who’s government is friendly with both the US and China - we offer the US navy support and Singapore is one of the largest foreign investor countries in China( the U.S. and China need to work together. The problem is with the U.S. it cannot accept that China is now a powerful player on the world stage. The U.S. wants to ‘contain’ China and keep its 30+ year status quo as the only hegemonic superpower in the world. China CANNOT be contained. The American Neocons in Washington DC need to come to terms with China’s rise. China wants to work with the U.S. and all countries as partners in a win-win situation. The American warmongering Neocons on the other hand see the situation in terms of a zero sum game. At this point, it doesn’t matter which direction the US government takes. The shift from a unipolar American led Western alliance to a Multipolar one led by China, India and the other BRICS and BRICS+ nations. The global south, of which 85% of the global population lives has had enough of America’s disastrous foreign policies - sanctions, coercive bullying, threats of war, creating proxy wars and conflicts, emphasising a ‘rules based’ world order they created whereby they (Americans) get to break the rules and others are not allowed to do the same, interference in the INTERNAL AFFAIRS of SOVEREIGN nations, overthrowing of governments that resist American interference. etc, etc, etc. The list goes on and on. There are rational Americans that are speaking out against their own government’s abuses and false narratives, even here on YT. Respected economists like Professor Jeffery Sachs, who has spoken in Singapore, is one such American. Most Americans, middle American, has no idea just how bad their country’s foreign policies have been for the last 30+ years. Both Red and Blue governments have had terrible, TERRIBLE foreign policies that have kept the global south down - stunting their growth and development. Well, if Americans want to use their so-called FREEDOMS, maybe they can hold their government responsible for its shameful foreign policies that ACTUALLY VIOLATE the HUMAN RIGHTS of so many voiceless people around the world. Americans should NEVER lecture ANY NATION about human rights abuses. They are the BIGGEST perpetrators of human rights abuses in this planet.

    An excellent interview, thanks--please more of the realistic, objective and pragmatic views like Chris' sharing, less of ideological, superficial and warmongering foolishness. At the end of the day, all must face facts/reality, political posturing doesn't really change the fundamentals. Way to go, a rare gem. Chris' take is very close to the reality in CN. Ppl just want better lives, and CN gov has been delivering and working tirelessly on it. Ideology is really not that important. So the democracy vs. totalitarianism is bullshit. Jack Ma wasn't taken down b/c he criticized CN gov, he actually had access to the highest level to offer suggestion/advice. There were different things working together, his whole success was based on CN gov being lenient with him and his business (Ant Financial) was profiting from doing banks' business w/o being regulated by banking authorities on funds borrowed at low interest from State banks, but then he threatened to take down CN's financial system openly--one thing is of crucial importance to China is stability: you will only understand it when you start to realize how difficult it is to feed 1.4 billion/providing for everything and keep a country with 56 ethnic groups peaceful and stable. A related point is that the redline is as long as you don't plot to overthrow the government, split the country, or sabotage the stability/peace (terrorism), or sedition/treason (working for foreign forces to overthrow the gov/split the country etc.), they pretty much leave you alone to do whatever. Ma Yun's Taobao was also imposing on the small businesses/shops exclusivity, taking away the choices they might have, and therefore destroy any chances for rising new competitors, that's a classical anti-trust issue. In fact one strength of Chinese government is that they in principle don't allow religions or capitals to decide/influence policies (historically so), which is actually way better than the US. Chris' point on Chinese parent is relevant: CN government is historically like good parents, they take care of you whole heartedly, but you accept certain level of their into your life out of filial obligations/harmony/love. Only with understanding would Americans realize that Chinese/Chinese government are not demons, nor are they evil, nor are they interested in taking down the US: they just try best for a better life, with hard work (not looting).

      also no school in Zheng Zhou is/was the "best" in CN, never heard of it. I went to a boarding school top in the nation, the working hours were about that long, you got up early in the morning to run, fully packed schedule and strong competition spirit, but you have various activities, different classes, self-study time, and sports time and more. A 13 year old doesn't really think about family or burden, but more about being the best among your peers, it's not that morbid as he described. But his point was the value of hard work/discipline/work ethics in formative years--out of discipline there are achievements/fulfillment/happiness/joy too, also you know that hard work is the answer to most problems, so you'll always try your best.

    Not shocking that China is taking its rightful place as a superpower Americans have no clue about Chinese culture or history we r not taught anything about their ancient civilisation or what they achieved LONG b4 the west was even remotely civilised They spent 18 centuries as the wealthiest country & invented so many things like paper printing the compass gunpowder Come on. China is a peaceful people who r focused on business nobody is better at it

    This is eye opening! I live in Singapore and I have worked in China for a couple of years during my corporate life. I would consider myself as someone with a good and balanced view of the West and East. Most of the topics covered in this dialog were of no surprise to me but there were nuggets of information here that were eye opening. Thank you for this.
