You made what is called a widow maker plug. You should be using a generator in let box. You definitely should not be doing any electrical work.

What you need to do is replace the generator outlet on the house. To an 30 amp or 50 amp inlet. I recommend a 50 amp inlet. With number 6 gauge wiring. The interlock plate is completely correct.
