I have 2 older friends, 55-60 yrs old, Egyptian, 1 38, Afghani, and a young man, 25-30ish from ?, that have helped me and do daily here near the base, Marine Corp base Camp Pendleton in Oceanside CA. Charlie Sykes talks about protections could have been put in place. Like what? If Biden needed any support from Republicans to put those protections in place, he was never going to get it. And Charlie is a Republican, so he doesn't care for Biden's policies and achievements. Charlie's only goal was to see Trump not reelected. And because he and the Republican never trumpers failed to move Republicans away from Trump, he sees fit to blame Biden. Biden didn't put out the love fest for Trump advocated by the right, or the disinformation. Trump had Republican Senators and Congress men and women doing his bidding. Biden never had that. Trump had fealty, Biden never had that. So all who was against Trump all failed, not just Biden.

I think Charlie Sykes is a bit harsh on Biden. What defeated Biden was the media landscape and massive disinformation campaign. The right pounded disinformation every day about Biden, the moment he took office. And the mainstream media did nothing to mitigate it. In fact, they compounded the problem by not fact- checking or advocating any of Biden's accomplishments or wins. So, as far as the American people can see, is the disinformation, and they take it as fact. Trump had a complete media ecosystem behind him. Anything negative about Trump from the mainstream media, was immediately snuffed out and ridiculed by the right. Their audience, which is the majority of Americans, saw nothing negative about Trump, only positive. No negative ads or negative news. Whereas Biden they saw negativity driven by the right every day for 4 years. That is hard to compete against or quell. Especially, if not being helped anywhere else. What ever Biden did that was deemed negative, was blown 100 fold and pounded by the media. You got it wall to wall, every hour, for days if not weeks on end. Look at Afghan withdrawal, the coverage was 1000% negative, all day every day from all media outlets. Whereas any wins or accomplishments he achieved was not even shown or talked about. And if it was, it was very brief on mainstream media. The right-wing media ecosystem didn't show it at all. So most of America didn't even know what his achievements were. By the time the election came around, the negativity of Biden was already baked in. And the media did a very poor job of combating the constant disinformation on the right. To the point where it became true information.

How come yall not calling it an insurrection anymore ?

I still believe that there were only bad outcomes to choose from. If the Democrats had won - regardless of whether with Biden or Harris - the next four years would have continued in even more intransigent style from the Republican side! OK - not if the Democrats had won both the House and Senate BIG! Now we can only hope that the Republicans do not have time to destroy even more of the judicial system and the communication culture!
