The blinking shields are a "fortification" buff on the blocks in a 3x3 area provided by the block in the middle. When that central block is destroyed, all the remaining blocks lose that buff. Since you don't get a full refund for destroying your Turrets, you want to build up and use all your remaining Turret entrenchments before replacing your existing ones. Similarly, you'll rarely want to destroy buildings, it is more efficient to build upwards.

My best friend pülays it from scratch every time they release a new update (can not wait for the map overhaul... that map will be GIANT from what i saw so far...) and god, that sh** gets eldritch at times... and gotta love being fed blue joghurt in your sleep xD I personally will wait for it to reach Beta stage.
