Dungeon Meshi: A Meal Greater Than Its Parts

Frieren is a Hopeful Masterpiece (On How to Love, Awkwardly)
Переглядів 56 тис.4 місяці тому
Frieren: Beyond Journey's End is, in my humble opinion, anime of the year. It is a lightning in a bottle anime that shows us its heart and its message as honestly as it can. There are more themes and moments that I could ever do justice, even in a video of this size. But I'm going to try my best to explain, why this anime is, to me, a masterpiece.
Apothecary Diaries: The Sin of Ignorance
Переглядів 115 тис.7 місяців тому
The Apothecary Diaries is an anime with a suprisingly lot to say for what at first seems like a simple rom-com. Instead, Maomao and Jinshi live in a world not so different from our own, dealing with issues of harems, royalty, sickness, poison, and ignorance. Locklan gives his best trying to review this season stealing show.

The Surprising Subversion of Ranking of Kings' Characters
Humans long to be known and to be remembered. Love is just that, to know and to remember. That's why it must defy time. That's my take anyway.
I started to watch Frieren because of a clip I watched in yt about the First-Class Mage arc. only to find out it was not even the best story arc of the whole series. I found myself laughing, crying, and rolling each episode. It's almost impossible for me to compare it to any other animes I've ever watched.
Great format
Thanks!
One that is like this but is not anime is The Imperial Cornier. A period drama from China. ENG SUB [The Imperial Coroner] EP01 ua-cam.com/video/zrFYLbM5HDU/v-deo.htmlsi=ARhkz1PgrpgPmTVI There seems to be no dub but it needs it.
Not you putting in one of, if not the most, recognizable badass sound tracks of gaming this side of 2020 at 39:43 to fully hype us up even more for the fight clips!
I am sad that himmel did not consider confessing his love on Frieren because he knew he will only live a little while frieren would live so long(and i think he's to prideful to do that😂)
7:53 More like Fern is sister / mother to Frieren ✌
Jeez. The first episode of this anime made me cry so much. I like analyzing the emotions, the actions, the bonds of these characters. And just when Himmel dies later in the first episode and Frieren crying just broke my heart. And in episode 14 and 27. We saw Himmel put a ring on Frieren and We saw Frieren saved Himmel when he was a child and Frieren showed her flower spell. A lot of beautiful moments in this anime
Imagine for your debut as an anime director you create Bocchi the Rock, and then for your very next show you follow it up by directing Frieren. Absolutely unreal artistic talent and creative vision. That’s in addition to numerous key animation roles for Oshi no Ko, Mob Psycho, and many more immaculately crafted shows. Keiichirou Saitou is on another level, I can’t wait to see what he does next.
Frieren is thick.
As emotional as this fantastic show is. I somehow never shed any tears watching it. However as finishing the show, and thinking about how much it meant to me while watching it made my tear up after, and this review made all of those feelings come rushing back, and I teared up again.
See you in a million
superbe description de ce magnifique anime
im an immature kid and just finished this with tears in my eyes, i binged this anime just this summer, a few days before vacation. this conveyed so much emotion, it made me realize how time, will go on, whether we like it or not. when you mentioned how someone can play a game for a month, focusing on the goal or mission to achieve it until you longer can, is making me tear up even more. for a long time over the span of last year december, i have been constantly playing video games as an escape from my own mind and reality, but i wasnt alone, i spent alot of my time with this person i love so much. we reached each other a hard time in my life, now that we cant see each other as often, i reminisce on how we played hours and hours on end together. i have been reflecting lately and now, i feel remorse, i remember feeling slightly annoyed but i always gave in since i liked spending time with the person i truly loved to see smile everyday when i could. im not a people person, i usually perfer to be independent, only letting myself open up to people who want to make use of me or need me for something, but for once, i wanted to spend all this time with just this one person. doing things alone is okay, but having somebody by my side, is even better. we support each other no matter what, and i want to continue expanding my love and memories with him. thank you for making this video.
Your choice of octopath music is a great touch.
Thank you, it’s a great soundtrack!
Thank you! So many people see Frieren as this horribly depressing almost parable about time and what it takes. Not what it gives. Which is what I got from the show, that time gives much more than it takes. You just have to participate in it.
Frieren is a melancholic "Mary Sue" in a "slice of life"
@@urielalbertosanchezm I believe Mary Sue is too vague of a term to apply any actual criticism. She’s written as a character who’s been around for thousands of years and we see the progression of her knowledge as she goes. And she isn’t even close to canonically the strongest or smartest character. If she’s a Mary sue, then so is Gandalf in LOTR.
easy anime of the season is an insult to what this anime is its easily going to be one of the best anime of this decade
This vid is great !
@@MaiKhanhPhung thank you!
That scene with the flower being knocked off the windowsill plays a huge role in Lihua's story in the upcoming season 2. Spoiler ahead: The woman who knocked off the flower was both Lihua's cousin and her head Lady-In-Waiting. She knows the powder is toxic and hopes, with Lihua's loss, the emperor will eventually shift his attention from Lihua to herself.
lovely video
I cried a lot throughout the video fuck you, I loved it
i smell a genshin fan
Yeah the music might be a giveaway
They taught Frieren not how to be human but how to interact with humanity 😭 god I love this anime so much. What a good video
Thanks for the video. Going forward, thats Frieren way!
I hated monocle man so much... until he was explained. I couldnt hold onto my hatred. Still dont like him but damn i did cry.
Why is a 20+ year old blue hair boy tryna bag a 1000 yesr old hag?
Squandered time is a regret that cuts deep
It's just nice to have an anime that doesn't treat the audience like they're idiots.
A pure love that defies time. Thank you for filming
Werbil. What does it matter if the hero saves the whole world if he does not save your house and village?
This anime breaks me because every time, i realize it wasn't until After Himels death did Frieren realize she loved him.
I really like how the series doesn't shy away from the more tragic and disturbing parts without getting morbid or turning gore (which would be easy as there was as much brutality as there was finesse and culture).
Thanks for another amazing review and analysis of another of my faves! Take care!
Thank you for this video and all your hard work. Take care.
But i do think in a manga ch 108 to 119 they did only Fanservice
Excellent video. Thank you very much for sharing 😊
1:25 Ishuzoku Reviewers did it first. The people meme’d it to the top, and the admins ruined it. A tale as old as time.
It's crazy how much I love this show, thx for sharing <3
Frieren is a masterpiece, my fav anime that I doubt will be topped. I highly recommend reading the manga if ur impatiently waiting for a new season.
I really love this review lol. Nice job
Thanks!
This video essay was beautiful and put into words what frieren really is. But I have to admit that that last part, about not having emotions really touched my heart. I myself thought at first that this anime would be mediocre and generic, with frieren and fern being the typical cold and emotionless characters, but I couldn't have been more wrong. And in fact, upon watching it, I realized that those two characters are the ones I can really relate to. All my life I've been told that I'm cold, even that I didn't love my brother or that I haven't really fallen in love, just because I don't express my emotions with hugs and kisses every moment and I don't like saying I love you just because, I truly believe that love is something ''that is shown, not said'' and it is not shown by kissing and hugging someone all the time (while often failing them) but through small and mundane actions, being by their side, taking care of them, thinking of the best for that person without looking for anything in return. Being told that I didn't love my brother really hurt me when I was young but now, my brother kind of praises me (although he wouldn't tell me but I've heard it from his girlfriend and our own mother), and I firmly believe that it's because he has understood my way of loving him and has learned valuable lessons from me and I am partly responsible for the man he has become, the same goes for my boyfriend who has been with me for 12 years now, (being my first and only partner) respecting, loving and caring for each other in our own way, and for me that's all that matters.
The anime teaches you that you need to appreciate those small moments, just as much as being with people who you care about. How many times have we walked by something that is generally mundane, but if we looked we could have seen something we'd remember for life? I still remember looking out my school bus window, one morning on the way to school, and the sky was a plethora of colors. Mixed and separate all at once and the color was otherworldly. It was a coincidence that everything came together, along with the sun being in the right position, to light up the sky like that. I indulged in that beauty until I had to get off the bus, but I'll never forget it. I've never seen it to that degree since and it has been another half my current total lifespan since then (16 years). It's something I wish I could share with others, because it was that capturing.
Never realized why I like watching these kinds of videos but after watching this video I love the passion in people’s voices when talking about things they like and I also realized why dungeon meshi, Frieren beyond journeys end and violet evergarden are my favorite shows it’s because of how passionate the creator of these shows are about their world building, characters and overall just the universe I love watching passionate people I love people who show care these kinds of people can be rare but once you find them it’s so refreshing I love passionate people
Same level as One Punch Man season 1 ❤ great callout
ANIME OF THE YEAR!!!
Frieren revived my love for anime and gave me a love for medieval fantasy stories. Frieren changed my whole perspective on how to see life and the passage of time and why we should value our friends, family and loved ones with a unique narrative and spectacular animation. I have already seen the anime twice and when I catch up with the manga I will go for the third one!!! Without a doubt one of the best Shonens of the last generation and the best anime of last year.
I loved this concept so much that I kinda borrowed it. So my world I'm making has a dungeon similar to this one where there is an ecosystem, however the thing about the dungeon is you have a limited time to explore since after 3 days the dungeon will vanish for 2 years so there are a few settlements of people who live in the dungeon. It's a very small settlement and is not meant to be permanent with a few exceptions. The exceptions are the priests and priestesses of the god who made this dungeon. They call the dungeon home and live in several of the temples scattered throughout the dungeon. My character enters the dungeon to get a rare ingredient as he's an avid alchemist, unfortunately he and his family get trapped and have to survive. He's not too worried as his wife is a guard captain who taught the kids to handle weapons, his eldest daughter is a genius when it comes to magic, his twin sons are his helpers and his youngest daughter is a warrior like her mom. His extensive knowledge of plants helps them know which ones are poisonous and which ones aren't, and what properties they have. He enjoys the dungeon so much he wants to make a permanent village which the god of the dungeon is initially against. However after some convincing the god agrees to let 10 people live in the settlement. If one person wants to join another has to leave. He also makes sure monsters aren't over hunted, and anything harvested is replanted.
Stupid, there’s your comment
Naw bro you really made a masterpiece. The more time passes, the more I learn to understand this kind of stories. Nonetheless I’m not educated enough. I had that feeling that Frieren was the best anime I have ever seen, but I just didn’t fully understand many things. I need this kind of videos not just to learn, but also to acknowledge how good the anime I was watching actually is. So I thank you. And even if I had written like 200 lines of why I love this anime before this video, I now get that this wasn’t simply cinema and the best anime that I’ve ever seen, it is the fucking peak of the 7th art, nothing is above it. I could write a couple of dozen paragraphs about how I feel about this anime, but I’m just going to say the following thing. SNK was the first serious anime that I’ve watched, it was one of these stories that played a major role in my political orientation, philosophy and broad views of the world (I became a libertarian communist with the time). I immediately hated war with all my heart, and I understood why I had to flee my country: to flee war. This was in 2021-2023. This year I watched Vinland Saga and the second season made it become my favourite anime. But this is important because now I not only did hate war, but I also craved peace and enlarged that feeling of wanting to be a better person that I’ve had since I discovered TLOTR like 7 years ago. But then Frieren made me realise, well, everything you said and more. Most of the people around me think I’m overly optimistic, and maybe I am, but Frieren is a counter example of that broadly known quote which says “good man creates good times, good times creates weak men…”. I don’t know, it’s beautiful, it’s music to my ears, it’s realistic, Frieren is an op character but down to earth, human and real. This is the best shit I’ve ever seen and I want more.
Ik that what I’m about to add is pretty well known and overly repeated, but the way it shows and tells that the small things are indeed what matter. Money, status and power will never bring joy and are worthless. What matters is, well, I hate to put it in these words because it feels too soapy, though what matters is to be free and to love, but far too many people disregard these two aspects which are the most important aspects in life.
