    As long as you buy high quality fly line you can go cheaper on the rod and reel, the feeling is unreel in high quality line, esp for beginners

    Had one, overpriced junk in terms of practical use. Lovely to look at. 1/2 to 1lb drag? For a Salmon reel? Get a grip. I got rid and got a better sounding reel (subjective) with better materials and an actual drag (also zero inertia). They've had their day and have to allude to some kind of servility to a royal master to get custom from the brain dead. My opinions of course.

    I bought one, the cork handle was very poorly finished, I had to sand it down myself. The reel is shoddily engineered and rattles as the spool doesn't fit on the spindle accurately. Why don't you do an honest appraisal? I will take your reviews with a pinch of salt in future.

    I think the drag nob is to large in the smaller sizes. The knob is larger then the reel , almost. Change this for the smallest reel-sizes.

    Avoid this reel to flimsy for -0c grayling fishing the gathers on the reel and the ice pops the flimsy click system and the reel pays line freely, Hardy know it’s an issue but still charge a fee to fix a product not fit for purpose, looks good but there’s better reels on the market.

    Lovely to watch and be inspired on a December afternoon and think of a spring day in 2023. Where ever we manage to cast a fly ..be it a dry Adams on a stream like this or a Waterhen Bloa on a northern river Swale Eden or Irwell we have alot of history behind us and much to fight for to keep those streams vibrant with life despite the indiffererence of the Environment Agency ,Water companies and Industrial farming Simon Artley Manchester UK

    • @oldwaltonian2476
      @oldwaltonian2476 Рік тому

      Well said. Despite the odds against, I try to remain hopeful for an eventual and permanent 'sea change' in my own lifetime, towards the protection and preservation of our streams and rivers. However, having recently re-read some of my old 'Angling' magazine collection from 1968 to 1970, in which angling personalities of the day (Brian Harris et al) were complaining bitterly about exactly the same indifferences back then, it seems that no progress has been made at all during the last 50 plus years. A sad case in point is the Costa Beck - a spring fed limestone stream in North Yorkshire with very similar characteristics to a chalkstream - which has now been completely destroyed after decades of pollution from sewage and fish-farm discharges. Even with the Environment Agency and Yorkshire Water now facing legal action for gross dereliction of duties, the wonderful trout and grayling populations which used to be so prolific in that stream could take a generation or more to return, if at all.

      Kinda late reaction but still... it really doesnt matter. Shimano fly fishing gear is one of best in the world in my opinion. I had 10s of fly fishing reels and rods and i can say Shimano gear lasts ... i still have Shimano reels and rods which are 10+ years. Looks like new and never let me down. Truly awesome gear durable. At this moment i fish Shimano Biocraft XTR LA reels. I have it 4x and ill not switch to anything else till they works. Shimano really knows how to put things together. So no tube ? Just buy one or grab higher series which provide case. 3 piece ? Not big deal if u have traveling tube for many rods. + it holds together nicely.

    I can’t believe how tight the tolerances are on this reel. There’s absolutely no wobble between the frame and spool. It’s fit is comparable or better than a lot of $450 reels that I own. It’s tolerances are way tighter than the Sage ESN reel, I own two, and as tight as my Ross reels, if not tighter. Great review, thanks!!! Buying a couple very soon.

      Zenith never sold in big numbers, in fact regarded by the workers as an occasional 'odd part' to make, and also I got the impression anything large arbor hardly sold anyway, quite contrary to logic, at least from the Hardys manufactory in the '1970's. Quite odd really as nowadays and quite rightly so, large arbor are appreciated and demanded. Makes sense, who the fck wants to be winding a line 'sub cotton reel' ie retrieval is everything. But as the late, great Ian Blagburn remarked as he once singularly (quite remarkable as he ultra-rarely burst into the Dev Dept during the day - note in reality Hardy Management wld only emerge once the workers had gone home) .... "All you need is a scrap of floorboard and a nail" ... wtf, maybe he was recollecting his childhood experiences crude as they were .... and therefore why did we have a Dev Dept?
