As someone that suffers with dyslexia, roleplaying has been key in combating it.
This is a roleplaying channel that will focus on reviews, top 10 lists, hints and tips all the while helping other identify if they are dyslexic. I will also advice and tips that both I and other professionals use to help cope in a world where reading and writing well is expectation and is a huge part your life.
Reading roleplaying books have improved my reading skill (because they’re books I enjoy reading) but also given me the confidence to read out loud and deliver presentations in my professional life and I want to do the same for you.
Please help support my channel grow by subscribing to it and liking and sharing anything you enjoy.
I’m happy for any feedback, good or bad. I plan to upload new videos at least twice a week.
Importantly, if you or your children struggle with dyslexia, please drop me a message as we are not alone and I’m here to help.
Thanks

Cypher System Page turn and thoughts
Thank you for breaking this down. I was confused with all of the other previous games in the line then seeing this. I want the RPG experience with the d20 mechanics and running campaigns. I mean you can be Batman, how freaking cool is that!
Hi there. Thanks for watching and commenting and finding me. Yes, these books look very good, especially the art work. Playing Batman will be amazing
I have to say, I’m one of those that are precious over my character as you well know but I did enjoy wild frontiers….death was fun 😂😂
Agreed. The way the funnel system works to create your 1st level character is great fun
Yeah I wanted to keep my 🏴☠️ ship 😂
You loved it really 😂
this may sound silly, but i use d6 with pips so i'm never again quoted saying, "i rolled a 6, a 6, and a 9" -- i still have to figure it out w/ the other dX but it is what it is lol edit: i also will try to get digital copies of anything i use, and then i'll feed the text into something that will read it aloud so i can have an "immersive reading" experience (which helps me greatly). it's currently the only reason i have Microsoft Edge installed, since it has an AMAZING reader mode with great TTS... if i could find better i'll happily uninstall it again 😂
Nothing ever sounds silly with our wonder ‘gift’. We all do what we need to do on a daily basis to fit in the best we can in a world reliant on reading and writing and especially in this hobby we all love Glad you found something that works for you
I was officially diagnosed as dyscalculic at 26 (I'm 42), which of course shares a lot of overlap... but I was surprised how many of these questions were about numbers? I started failing math as soon as we got to multiplication tables, but everyone read that as "disliking math" because I wasn't "naturally talented at it" -- which is how many so-called "gifted and talented" kids had neurodivergence dismissed, back in the 80s-90s, at least. Both my sisters are diagnosed as dyslexic as children, but I was not (probably because I was hyperlexic on top of everything). We can all read upside down, backwards, etc. We also read scrambled words and jumbled sentences (when presented as, say, children's puzzles) as correct (usually) before we realize they're mixed up. I have to use the "left makes L" trick with my hands EVERY TIME to tell left from right. Also, maps are high impossible for me to actually navigate on trips (thank science for GPS). 😌 Okay, I wanted to share something funny that just happened while watching this... you said question 1 and I said "that's nonsense, I can do that no problem!" and then I did... I listed all 13 months, January all the way to January! hahaha, uhmm... learned something about myself with that one. "Time is a flat circle," indeed! 😂 Cool video. Looking forward to seeing how to improve my TTRPG skills with dyslexia/dyscalculia in mind! Subscribed.
Hi there. Thank you for finding me and taking the time to write and share your story. Every time I hear from someone new it really saddens me that all our stories are very similar and how the eduction system missed it. That’s really funny regarding the months. Isn’t it amazing that once we think we have control our brains turn a hard right and throw us off without even noticing it 😂 Sorry to hear about your sister too. Are you finding this hobby helps your situation? Thank you for subbing too, you’re a star 👍
@@Dungeonsanddyslexia oh, i've been playing D&D long before the diagnosis so i'd say it's like anything else... a mixed bag. but, like i said about puzzles before, sometimes i instantly solve them 🤷♀
@Lodane it’s our gift and our curse
100% agree with your review. I'm running it for the first time as my first try at being DM. Like you, it was the live play that hooked me. My players are loving it. Their personal quests are woven into the story and each others quests beautifully. We had a great time with Smithy on the Scar after I switched to minion rules for the wave and waves of creatures. And the Rat's Nest is amazing . Currently visiting Oscar Yoren, who is. Indeed, fun to play. So I think we'll be off to the gardens next. But i never know what they're actually going to do. I am finding the factions difficult and they confuse my players. Im working on that. The flipping back and forth is crazy. And the prep time because of that is long. In the long run, worth it. But better organization would help. My copy is on D&D Beyond and has live links, which help but don't cure the problem. Sebastian Crowe's guide PDF is also a bit tough to navigate. And I imagine Pluto Jackson monsters will be the same. I still can't get enough of Drakkenheim, though
Hi there, thank you for watching and commenting and more importantly, DMing this wonder world to your players. I wish I knew about the minion rules as the scar quest become a bore at the end. The garden is amazing as is the Rat's nest. Oscar stayed until the end in my campaign. I'm interested to know what your players do. For the factions I found it easier once you have the players actually meet all the leaders so you can play out their motivation in real time and then the penny drops for everyone. Through the campaign they all through the Falling Fire was the enemy and by the end, they all joined her. They even collected all the religious artifacts, raised the dragon from under the cathydral and the barbarian flew it into battle when the Silver Order attacked the city. We all had an amazing time. If you need any help or tips, just ask but it sounds like you're doing well (apart from the made prep due to the badly laid out rule book).
@@Dungeonsanddyslexia 😃
@@Dungeonsanddyslexia Initially, my players just wanted to eliminate all the factions. Thieves, Fanatics, Crazy Cultists, and Sneaky Magic Users. Even though they've done jobs for the Academy, Lanterns, and even Queen's Men, they haven't really formed opinions. They haven't interacted with factions other than taking jobs and returning with the loot. My former DM, who is one of my players, told me of my group's frustration with factions. He invented a game called Faction Bingo. He will be passing out cards with questions to be answered for each faction as guidance for future interactions. I hope that will help. The Doomslingers are level 5. They accepted the steal the homework job from academy and are now going to work for Oscar fetching delerium and lilies. In exchange, he will give/sell them special potions , share some of his research, and instruct likely candidates in brewing and maybe some contaminated spells. This week he will be showing off his secret lab. They flattered him so much that he's really puffed up right now. The deep dreg on the table is going to sit up and grab our druid who is insanely interested in turning into monsters and studying their power. Said dreg will deliver a message that he can join them, there is a way. (changing to circle of contamination). It goes after Oscar the torturer who disappears, leaving the party to roll for initiative. I took circle of contamination from Sebastian Crowe's guide and the dreg is actually a dee siren -- magic using fish person. She has surprise and wails out a psychic blast DC15 intelligence save. Failed save, the creature takes 21 psychic damage, and suffers from discordant reverberations for 1 minute. During that time, it rolls a d6 and subtracts the number rolled from all its attack rolls, ability checks, and saving throws. The target can make an Intelligence saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. This is the drama moment for my druid and the creepiest bit I've done so far. Even added sound effects. As you can see, I'm excited about my game. Thanks so much for your comment!
@@bemommyb It's great to see that you're having as much of a blast with it as I did. The world is so well put together it really allows the players to go off and do whatever they like, even if the personal goals conflict. I think it's great that they are siding with Oscar, as it helps give the players a 6 action to deal with and have help. Ultimately, they will need help from others if they want to get into and clear the castle. The city wall attack is a pretty good way to bring forward the factions. One of my players (the heir to Drakkenheim personal goal) was really into the Queen of Thieves and openly talked about marrying her which she really used to her advantage. And then he had that Star Wars moment of finding out it was his half sister lol
Looks awesome. £23.16 for 72 items!
Thank you for watching and commenting. Agreed, it's best bundle I've seen to date. The map packs are amazing
I was trying to come up with a list, but I realized that, in spite of liking Horror a lot, I haven't played many different games. I've played and run a lot of Call of Cthulhu over the years, and it's probably my number one. Overall, it's probably my favorite RPG. Otherwise, I've played All Flesh Must Be Eaten, which was good. A bit crunchy for my tastes. I've played one game of Thousand Year Old Vampire, which was excellent. It's a solo game, so it's sort of its own thing. And I've played the new Alien RPG a few times, which I loved. Oh, and back in the late 90s, I played a few sessions of Unknown Armies. That might be it. I've certainly run horror scenarios for games, including a session of The Babylon Project (Babylon 5 RPG) that totally ripped off the film Event Horizon. But the overall campaign wasn't horror-themed. I think Call of Cthulhu was always our default Horror game. I know it's mine now. I lean more toward Cosmic Horror VS traditional cryptids or religious Horror (ghosts, demons, etc.). So much so that when ghosts or vampires appear in Call of Cthulhu modules or campaigns, I either drop them or re-write what they are. I've read other Horror games, but never gotten them to the table. I was one of the first people to buy Vampire the Masquerade when it first arrived at my local game store. I think it was the owner of the shop, then me. I read it and loved it. At the time I was reading the P.N. Elrod Vampire Files series & cranking Concrete Blonde in my Walkman, so VtM was a pretty fantastic find. I went on to buy a bunch of the books, including Werewolf and Wraith. But I never ended up playing in a game. Closest I came to playing in any World of Darkness game was when I played for six months in an Ars Magica game that was a hodgepodge of 1st-3rd Ed. But the guy running it didn't like what White Wolf had done with trying to connect it to WoD, so he didn't use that stuff.
Firstly, let me say thank you for taking the time to write and share this. I love waking up to people commenting on my videos. You have some really good choices here and I'm glad to see CoC up at the top. I think it's a great default to go to for horror. I have sellers regret over 1000 year old vampire as it left my collection without me playing. I found the book just too beautiful to write in and as a dyslexic, I really struggled to focus enough to play it through. Ars magica is a great game, I think it has some on the best magic rules out there. However, I'm sad for you for buying and then not playing the World of Darkness books. They are (as you can see from this list) wonderful. Oh as for Aliens, which is a great game, check out Mothership which is the reason I let Aliens leave my shelf
@@Dungeonsanddyslexia I went in reverse with Mothership. I read that first and really liked it. Then Alien came out and I dropped Mothership, because Alien's system really worked for me. But now, I'm maybe coming back around. I still have my "0 edition" rulebook, but I'm thinking about grabbing the 1st Ed box of Mothership. I may end up keeping both on my shelf. I totally understand about the focus with Thousand Year Old Vampire. I have struggled to find an in-person group (even before the pandemic) since getting back into the hobby in 2019. So, I've been trying to experiment with solo RPGs. But I have a really hard time focusing on them. I definitely didn't write in my copy, though. It was too beautiful. I used 3X5 cards to write my memories.
@@matthewconstantine5015 Don't get me wrong, I love the Aliens game. I think it's the best version of the Year Zero engine but where i falls down for me is replayability. The cimamatic experiences are some of the best I've played, I really enojy semi co-op games and I still want to play the final part. Why I prefer MS now it it's just so simple and fast and it feels like I can do my own thing with it. Do you have a group now? I'm hearing people saying it's becoming harder and harder to find a game.
@@Dungeonsanddyslexia I don't have an in-person group. I've been playing in an online Traveller game for a couple years, and it's great. But I miss in-person gaming. I'm an introverted recluse by nature, but I actually love the social aspect of sitting around a table with folks, sharing meals, creating stories and memories. My wife & I recently relocated from the outer suburbs to the actual city of Washington DC, so I'm hoping I can find a group here. Though there seems to be an eerie radio silence when it comes to gamers in this town. Dallas, Philadelphia, Chicago, Seattle? Lots of online representation. DC? Nothing. Or someone will say, "I'm in the DC area" and then you find out they're an hour or more drive away, completely unreachable by bus or train. And we don't own a car. An acquaintance has approached me about maybe running D&D (fingers crossed, I can shift that to something like Dragonbane) for her child and his friend. They're very, very young though, and I don't have much experience being around kids. So, we'll see if that happens and how it goes.
I guess that’s the issue with how vast the US is. Your state’s are bigger than my country lol. Though it’s harder enough finding a group but once you do, it’s equally hard keeping it together. Glad you’re finding playing online with Traveller. It’s still to really hit my table, but one day..one day I think 5e is a great place to start with younger players as it’s simple to pick up. Run a 1-4 level mini adventure from the beginners and then once hooked, move to Dragonbane 👍
A Pound of Flesh and Dead Planet are great modules. I wasn't as into Gradient Descent. I'm curious to check out a few 3rd party books. Cloud Empress is one I'm particularly interested in reading.
I agree, some of these modules look amazing and a few a more a bit meh now I’ve spent a bit more time looking. It’s a great idea though putting all these up at once as it brings a lot of attention to a really great game
Wonder how many copies will ever get played by more than one person "doing all the voices" themselves? If you don't know ANY of the back story and don't know what Narritivium is, just go away. This review is utterly CLICK-BATE. <plonk>
Hi there. Thanks for finding me and watching my first look at the KS. As I said in the video, these were books I read in college and uni some 30 years ago. As a dyslexic reading is tough but I’m getting back into the books again slowly and will have a lot more read by the time these arrive in 2026 (or so as they KS always have huge delays)
@@DungeonsanddyslexiaI’m not sure why you even bothered to respond to this post. Keep up the great work on your ‘first look, clearly not a review’ video.
This preview recently vanished from Kickstarter. You can see dead links to it in google searches. My guess is they dropped KS for Gamefound.
Thank you for clarifying. Makes you wonder if the fees are lower but I expect it's because GF is more a pledge manager site than crowd funding....maybe lol
Pledged in the last few days, more than excited to get my hands on a copy of this honestly, if there's any fantasy setting better suited for a fun TTRPG with your mates I've never heard of it
That’s great to read. Completely agree. It’s going to be wonder to read and play with our groups Thank you commenting and watching my channel 👍
1st and 2nd edition were release by Lion Rampant. White Wolf released the 3rd edtion.
Ah ok, thanks. I'm now thinking we must not have played 1st or 2nd, and jumped in on 3rd as I'm sure we bought it due to our love of the World of Darkness
I liked the board game (great minis), but the rule book was 'not good'. The thing about rpgs is they are ALL RULE BOOK. I only just completed my Modiphius Conan collection so gunna let this slide until it gets to e-bay and pick it up for the adventures not the rules.
I totally agree. The rule book was bad. However, We played through the downloadable rules and we all really liked it. Well done for completing the Modiphius books. It’s a great feeling when you finally get there I expect the PDF’s will be available from drivethruRPG if you can’t find them on eBay
"I haven't looked into the the rule book yet" was all I had to hear, but I actually listened all 26 minutes of this. What a super lazy review: just going to the KS site and reading words aloud. Your lack of background investigation & knowledge really shows and even leads to falsehood. For example, had you known about the board game, of which there have been several kickstarters, I doubt you would've criticized the delivery date so strongly (or at all: I think it's very believable). Also, analyzing characters based on their looks and the rules based on a few segments of text is not adding any value here. This is not the way to get followers. At least it should not be.
City of nightmares is the first time in Stockholm. The base game is set in Uppsala
You’re correct, thanks for commenting and watching. I knew it was based in Sweden (that’s my excuse). I gamed with Andy last night who confirmed he’s backed the KS so looks like I’ll be getting to play these. Have you backed them?
I had no idea this game exists. It sounds super fun and totally different. Do you think it is worth it to buy from Europe? The price 150 seems already kinda steep + there would also be the delivery cost. Wish I would be a retailer, they get 3 for 250. :D
It’s a really fun and in-depth game all at the same time. As the rules are pretty much the same (minus the errata which is online) you can pick up the 5th Ed rules pretty cheap on eBay and in Facebook selling groups. Like you say, this version is costly and a steep price if you and your group dislike it. Thanks for watching and commenting and if you find a copy, let me know how you get on with it
@@Dungeonsanddyslexia It was a good video, so thank you for doing this. Do you think it is worth the 150? If one would appreciate the art and lore of the book? I saw the 5e book on Amazon here, but also the extra in the definitive edition looks like fun stuff.
@@azzy9358It's a very good game and a beautiful edition. Do I think it's worth paying 150 for a book you've never played or read? I'm not sure. That's your call, do you think your group will play it? I think that comes down to you and how much disposible income you have
I agree with Stay Alive. Ones not on your list: Old Gods of Appalachia and Vaesen
Thanks for watching and commenting. Vaesen was 12. It would have scored higher if it wasn’t for the Year Zero system which I hate. Love the world and idea behind it. I’m yet to get Gods, I’m waiting for the recent crowdfund to release which I backer. I like Holler too which seems the same kind of world but using the SWADE rules
THACO isn't confusing at all to people who used it when it was invented, and can do basic simple additon and subtraction.
Thanks for watching and commenting. I used it and it confused me 😂 but saying that, it was over 30 years ago and Dark Sun was be of my first experiences. Maybe it’ll make more sense to me now if I tried it again.
Man. I wish i didn't forget to grab these
Doh!! So sorry to read this. However, I'm sure it'll come around again as the CoC one that's on there now is exactly the same as the one from 6 months ago. So, fingers crossed for you
@@Dungeonsanddyslexia good to know. Just subbed to keep up
@@Chocopacotaco1413 Amazing. Thank you for the support
Man, I love this game. Sadly, haven't played since the 90s. I don't do crowd funding anymore, but this one is tempting.
It’s definitely one of those games to need to spend several months playing to get the best out of. Hopefully you’ll be able to grab one on the 2nd market so you can get one Thanks for watching and commenting
I love warhammer fantasy roleplay 4e. I have everything. Unfortunately, the humble bundle is useless for me. If you buy everything directly from cubicle 7, you get a free PDF. I want to order the limited edition dwarf players guide.
I like you have everything too apart from the Dwarf players guide as it’s such an amazing game. I’d love to have all the collectors ed. but I think I’d be sleeping with the dogs. Surely it’s worth it…..😏
Definitely so much to back. It’s never ending.
It’s great for choice . Not so much for the old bank balance. Makes we wonder if we’ve hit the golden age of RPG’s Thanks for watching and commenting 👍
I love this game!
I’ve a very enjoyable read so far. Thanks for watching, commenting and finding me 👍
The upcoming Barbarians of Lemuria english edition by Ludospherik is greatly superior as a rules light system, has superior customization and is better fit for Sword and Sorcery games. It and the fluff from the Conan 2d20 PDFs are all one needs for running games in the Hyborian Age.
Thank you for think. I'll take a look and see if I can subscribe so that I know once it comes out. I'm seeing loads of the 2D20 books in the secondhand market so maybe it's time to jump on it
@@Dungeonsanddyslexia the 2d20 Conan system is bleah, but the books are really great at fleshing out the Hyborian Age setting
@@Iulian111 I was thinking more for reference material too as like you, I do not get on with the 2D20 rules. Which is annoying given how much I like the mutant chronicles world
This is the first Kickstarter I backed. Loved the Discworld book series. Really looking forward to seeing how this game is played.
That’s great to hear. I sure is going to be a great game for fan and non fans alike. Welcome to the KS club. What did you pledge at?
@@Dungeonsanddyslexia I did the Commander pledge
@@kevinmikkola7396 Nice. It's where I am too
The game mechanics are unnecessarily redundant. You have stat number AND a stat dice size? You have Stamina points AND a flex die? Guys, calm down. Either pick a stat number or dice size, and with Stamina points, what’s the point of a flex die? You made simple rules, but then added needles complexity.
I do wonder if you’re spot on with the overly complicated. I’m playing it through on Sunday night so at least I can have a few hours with it to see
It would have been better off as a SWADE book, especially since the same company just remade Solomon Kane for SWADE. The only reason this system exists is because they wanted to make it similar with the boardgame and they hoped they'll attract some of that audience towards the RPG.
@@Iulian111 SWADE would have been amazing. That's a great shout. I've backed Soloman Kane and very much looking forward to it arriving. I was talking to my group about it last night after we finished our Witcher campaign and half think it looks great, the others are no sold on it at all
I don't agree with this. The flex die is basically just a critical success mechanic and there are plenty games that both have metacurrencies and dice explosions. Savage Worlds for instance and even D&D. When it comes to stat numbers and stat dice, I'm waiting for the in-game justifications before I conclude. A simple, and thematically appropriate justification, could be that number is raw talent and dice is training. Very appropriate for a Conan game.
Will be fine for three or four years until the licence gets yanked and sold to yet another different company. I'll be sticking with the Modiphius version.
I think we’re ok over in Europe as Conan is in the public domain so it’s easy to use. It just needs to be licensed elsewhere. I agree, stick with what you have and love. The cult of the new or FOMO is a terrible habit of this hobby. We never liked the 2D20 system after having a bad time with mutant chronicles os sadly I’ve never played that version of Conan. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍
That can't happen. It is owned by the swedish license holder. And yes in Europe this is all public domain (but trademark is valid)
Ah ok. Thanks for clarifying
In a recent designer interview, the new RPG designer says (if there’s enough ongoing interest) he envisions about 20x adventures for Conan corresponding to the published books. So this RPG may have a natural lifecycle anyhow… leaving room for a new licensee after this RPG run fulfills its designer vision. (Things could change, but that’s the snapshot view today.)

The minis are the ones from the boardgame, so approx 32mm. Monolith don't do retail, so if you don't back it you'll miss out.
Amazing, thank you for confirming the size. I’d forgotten about their exclusive only stuff. Sam that VAT’a going to kill
What ever you pledge be prepared to add on 50% for taxes and shipping, that is the way of things now.
@@davidwatts1871 I think I’ll end up just backing at PDF for now and setting what happens in the PM
Good to get a peek at this one at last! It seems like an age since Monolith announced it was in the works.
It certainly does. I need to get it play tested first before I go all in as these taxes on KS really hurt
@@Dungeonsanddyslexia - yeah. That's why I'm strictly a 'wait for retail' guy. I see quite a few projects I'd like to support, but my wallet just couldn't take the hit.
It’s nice when we get the option knowing it’s coming to retail like this looks like it will. The Discworld books on the other hand will cost me a lot 😔
I don't kickstart, so not for me.
I’m mostly with you which is why I’m not really a fan of KS exclusive products. It makes sense from a company as it reduces the risk but for a customer, the VAT and taxes really hurt
Never fudge a roll. Like the Russian said in Rocky... "If he dies, he dies."

Enjoy the video, they don't go by edition, they go by prints. So you have the 9th printing of the player's book, 4th printing of Castles keeper guide and 5th printing of Monsters & Treasure. Now if you backed the kickstarter they did. It was for the 10th printing of Player's guilde, 5th printing of Castles Keeper guide and 6th printing of Monsters & Treasure
Thank you for watching and commenting and especially clarifying the difference between editions and print runs. I can’t wait get this to the table
Glad your getting into Castles and crusades. The Players handbook and Monster and Treasures books are all you need to run the game. Castle keepers guide will be full of optional rules and ideas to make your world better. And you should run the Undying War for your group 👍

I grabbed this around lunchtime. I have a few of the books (Pulp and Down Darker Trails for example), this was more to have the pdfs for ease of play. I'm happy with the deal and look forward to having a blast with them.
Glad you got this, it’s a great deal. I love DDT as I know you do but I was yet to grab Pulp so just downloading them all now
@@Dungeonsanddyslexia - I like Pulp a lot, but if I'm honest its something that I feel you can do with a little imagination on your own. I'm intrigued by the solo play books in there, I have one (Frost I think), but never got around to trying it - Hoping for something along the lines of the old Fighting Fantasy books.
I did wonder if you can homebrew it from the main game. Double the hp and you’re away 😂 Yes, I think that’s the idea of those solo campaigns. Several games now have solo adventures in starter sets to help the DM learn the game

Watch Indiana Jones and Big Trouble in Little China, combine for a fun adventure.
Sorry to hear that. Don't worry, I was expecting a little more to it than just the hp. I've get to reading it soon as love both IJ and BTILC

This RPG is using Magnetic Presses version of the WEG D6 system which they had in Carbon Grey before this. Its a great modernization of the classic system. They are calling this version the Magnetic Variant (MVD6). Going by what they did in Carbon Grey, Apes should be fantastic. Also Gallant Knight Games are doing a D6 2e. Which is a modular version of the WEG D6 system but again they have updated the gaming language and modernized it. I am really looking forward to both this game and the D6 2e one.
Ok great. Thanks for the view and taking the time to write this out to update my knowledge. Like you, I’m looking forward to this
Or grab for free on the high seas. GW hates you and thinks youre a clown. I guess you could get your wife's boyfriend to buy you this bundle, if youre a good englishman.
The Deathwatch RPG lore is way different from the table top game codexs Deathwatch lore. And they are both different from the black library novels Deathwatch lore 😅. I personally liked the Deathwatch RPGs but you shouldn't buy them for the lore. They were made by fantasy flight games not games workshop and they aren't treated as cannon by gw.
Ah, bugger. Now you say 😂 I’ve already bought them. Either way I’m having a good read even at my slow pace and happy to have them back again without paying the crazy eBay prices Are you saying picking up GE codex’s might be with doing too or are their specific GW lore books to grab? I’m a little intimidated by the options from Gw and haven’t a clue where I’d start
@@Dungeonsanddyslexia Sorry to tell you this but there really aren't any good ways of learning Warhammer lore anymore because games workshop writers often contradict each other and even flat out retcon established lore on a whim. Any lore you learn could be retconned out of existence at any time. Some games workshop employees are even hostile and insulting to fans who bother to learn the lore. So there really aren't any books to help you learn the lore. It's all subject to change and nothing is cannon because the gw authors don't care. As for the Deathwatch RPG, those books are especially non-cannon because they were made by fantasy flight games not games workshop and the ffg RPG books have always been mostly ignored by gw. For example the version of the Deathwatch in the ffg RPG is very different than the Deathwatch in the black library novels. Sorry to disappoint you but I wanted to warn you what to expect
It’s kind of what I thought after speaking with people in the model hobby over the years. That’s ok, I can kind of create my own lore and luckily, neither of my RPG group know much about. Thanks for taking the time to respond
@@Dungeonsanddyslexia you're welcome. If you are running a Warhammer RPG you're probably best off just using what is in the RPG books and ignoring everything else. One small warning, the Deathwatch RPG core rulebook was printed with errors and fantasy flight games released errata to fix the mistakes. The errors didn't ruin the game and it was still playable but the errata helped. I don't know if what you are getting contains those errors but you might want to look up fantasy flight games Deathwatch errata, it might help you when playing the game.
Ok perfect. Thanks again. I’ll take a look at what print version I have and then grab the errata
So, Rouge Traders are individuals or families given a "Warrent Of Trade" to scout and expand the influence of the Imperium. They mostly work in the fringes of Imperial Space or further abroad. Because they are so far from Imperial rule, they can do whatever they like as long as it "will be beneficial for the Imperium." So instead of pirates in space, they are Privateers for the Imperium. Some Rouge Traders are new and given their Warrent by the High Lords of Terra. Other families have their Warrent signed by the Emperor from 10000 years ago. So, this books let's the players take on more "traditional" feel of collecting a group to go out for adventures. Deathwatch, on the other hand, is a power fantasy like no other. You play Space Marines, genetically enhanced super soldiers that are sprinting tanks, that are picked to spend a time of service to the "Deathwatch." Those picked are the best and/or brightest up incoming stars of the Chapter. The purpose of the Deathwatch is to hunt, disrupt, and kill aliens of the galaxy. The reason this is slightly different than standard space marines because they hyper focus the alien threat. This is also the militant arm of the Ordo Xenos of the Inquisition. This also allows the Deathwatch to use more advanced weapons and even some modified alien technologies. This allows players to pick any chapter of space marines they like and have a reason they must work together. Power balance of these two books (honestly, all the edition of the original FFG RPGs) are not equal, even though they are using roughly the same mechanics. So trying to port characters from Dark Heresy (playing as servants of the Inquisition), Rouge Trader, Deathwatch, Black Crusade (Chaos Space Marines and their servants), and Only War ("standard human" soldiers) is really hard, if not impossible, to do. The Black Library bundle is a solid start of reading materials on Space Marines. Spears of the Emperor is probably one of the best starter books to get into the 40k setting. Blood of Asaheim is a Space Wolf novel, I have not read it yet, but Chris Wright is one of the better authors to write for Black Library. It's annoying that Humble Bundle give the first book for 6 different series, yet all 3 of the Salamanders books. Hopefully, this comment was helpful and good luck getting your players to play in the setting.
Oh, forgot to mention! All the FFG 40K RPG books were written in collaboration with a couple of Black Library authors and some of the team at Forgeworld (now called "Specialist Games," they make the 'other' games of Games Workshop that isn't 40k or Age of Sigmar).
Amazing, thank you for this. Rogue Traders sounds a lot more interesting now it's not just "space pirates" and DeathWatch is the power game i'd hoped for. Just downloading them all now to get added to my ipad so I can start the long, hard read of it all. Glad the novels have a Space Wolves book too. More reading for me. Thank you again for watching and commenting, I'll try to get some of this reviewed in the future too

@@Dungeonsanddyslexia Oh yeah, rogue trader lore is somewhat less dark than regular 40k (you powerful and authorized to bend quite a few rules) but you can do some pretty awesome things there.
Worrying about wear and tear is valid. But remember how piss poor some original bindings were. In comparison drive thru are solid...not quite up there with recent Chaosium or LotFP or Free League etc, but good enough.

looking forward to a ph 5.24 video. everything i've seen so far seems like a bit of a throwback in the direction of 3.5. gotta be honest, when it was all said and done, third edition was better than 3.5. however, my prediction is 5.24 is gonna be better than 5th edition.
