As someone that suffers with dyslexia, roleplaying has been key in combating it.
This is a roleplaying channel that will focus on reviews, top 10 lists, hints and tips all the while helping other identify if they are dyslexic. I will also advice and tips that both I and other professionals use to help cope in a world where reading and writing well is expectation and is a huge part your life.
Reading roleplaying books have improved my reading skill (because they’re books I enjoy reading) but also given me the confidence to read out loud and deliver presentations in my professional life and I want to do the same for you.
Please help support my channel grow by subscribing to it and liking and sharing anything you enjoy.
I’m happy for any feedback, good or bad. I plan to upload new videos at least twice a week.
Importantly, if you or your children struggle with dyslexia, please drop me a message as we are not alone and I’m here to help.
Thanks

Call of Cthulhu starter set unboxing and first impressions
Worrying about wear and tear is valid. But remember how piss poor some original bindings were. In comparison drive thru are solid...not quite up there with recent Chaosium or LotFP or Free League etc, but good enough.
I couldn’t more. I know they had issues in the early days with larger (600 plus page books) but I’ve not have any issues from DTRPG My original SLA book fell to pieces in days Thanks for watching and commenting
It's on my interest list due to the podcast its based upon, although I'm unsure if it offers anything new that I don't get from Call of Cthulhu (Yeah I know, but I'm trying to cut down on getting too many more systems, until I play more of the ones I have). Have you seen Holler for Savage Worlds, for what might be described as the Deadlands take on Appalachian horror?
That’s a bloody good shout. I should just pick up Holler as I already know the system and it’ll save me a load of shelf space and money 👍
Nice to see you back 🙂
Thank you mate.
Nice to hear from ya. You gotta try Flesh and Blood. Best TCG out there. I played mtg since the early/mid nighties and FaB is so much better.
Thank you watching and commenting. I have tried it and I didn't get on with it but that's our fault. We ended up buying and playing "Blizt" decks and from what I've recently been told, is not the format to play so it's something I plan to go back and try
looking forward to a ph 5.24 video. everything i've seen so far seems like a bit of a throwback in the direction of 3.5. gotta be honest, when it was all said and done, third edition was better than 3.5. however, my prediction is 5.24 is gonna be better than 5th edition.
I'm not sure you'll see that on here, I've watched a few reviews and I do not think it's for either of my groups. Pathfinder 2e and the new core books on the otherhand......as 3.5 was always are favourite D&D
Welcome back!
Thank you and thank you for still being here
Hey, I found the reply - Glad you grabbed Weird frontiers. I'm very tempted to give it a try, as I have the PDF, see just how much the setting differs from Deadlands. The piratical CoC looks like a thing for me too.
It reads just like DCC, and even has the 0 level funnel, which is half the fun of the book. Other than that, seems pretty close to Deadlands That pirate COC books good. Picked it up on a whim but glad i did
@@Dungeonsanddyslexia - Also have you seen SLA Borg?
No, I completely missed it. I've just checked it out and it looks pretty cool. Did you back it?
@@Dungeonsanddyslexia - I didn't, but I'd spent all my pocket money on another hobby, ready for the years events. I do intend to grab it when it drops, looks like they had no issues with funding.
Good to see you back :)
Thank you mate
Monolith didnt do the board game. Mythic did. Monolith bought it from mythic.
Ah, ok cool. Thanks for that. They both sound way to close to me :P
@@Dungeonsanddyslexia they do sound remind me of each other lol. I think mythic had some money issues and sold the SK franchise rights.
Yes I think they did. Joan of Arc was a mythic project too and that cost them a far amount with the legal battle over rights
I really like the side bar of "This is what section we are on and what in it", looks like it should be the Gold Standard for all techinal books.
I totally agree. I makes live and reading so much more pleasurable
Ill try it right away! thanks. There is a upgrade i would recommend. The first thing is that i would encourage players to use emojis as "-" used as pins. so instead of - shield spell it is: 🛡shield spell The idea is that it is a lot easier to at find the feature or spell that you are looking for looking at the colorful emojis, symbols, text art than going through a never ending list of words. The only PDF reader i have found to support emojis is the Firefox reader, it is important to mention, IT DOES NOT AUTO SAVE. so constantly save it manually, or you will risk loosing progress. but i find Firefox well worth it, character sheets look way better with color given by emojis. I find it the superior reader, one can draw and put comments in it and anything else needed. A change to the PDF: The new dnd beyond character sheets have all the spells in one large pillar with a box to say what level they are on. I find this really helps out, because one can organize them by more relevant features than level. like utility, defence, attack, support... i would put all the cantrips at the top, because you want to encourage their unlimited use. but for the other spells its better to have them organized by other values. Thanks for the vid :) edit: also separating phrases as much as possible in short paragraphs also helps a lot. now that i have downloaded the PDF im seeing a deal breaker. there are no PDF text boxes. Being able to digitally edit it for those that want/have to play online is a must.
Wait. A starter box with no quick start or rules lite book?
Hi. Thanks for watching and the comment. The adventure takes you through all the rules and what you roll and how to work it out. And then I’d also have quick reference guides
I have been buying from them for around 9 months, very happy with the quality, compared to the original paper that was used in AD&D!
Hi there. Thanks for watching and the comment. Yes so of the older books were shockingly bad and DTRPG really helps keep the cost down getting those older and harder to find books
I had a chuckle over the fact that your tokens immediately fell off the backing card - just like they did in my set!
Yeah, the bloody things lol
This was a day one pick up for me. Extra stuff to plug in to Wrath & Glory? SOLD! Then I started reading it. There's a ton of really good stuff in it, but the sheer frequency of typos and formatting errors across the book is staggering.
Luckily, as a dyslexic, I missed them all lol. Thanks for watching me and commenting on my videos
@@Dungeonsanddyslexia - we can call that a positive! Love what you're doing with this channel, by the way. Keep it up!
Thank you for you amazing comment. And please look out for more videos soon
@@Dungeonsanddyslexia - any time, man!
They did a pretty good job, modernizing the initial SW D6 1e system.
They sure did. I'm really looking forward to this.
i used to enjoy painting minis, now i cant see well enough to correct any minor flubs. it's disheartening to enlarge photos of any recent attempts and see how they actually turned out so now i dont really bother painting them. minis always look good when they are just cgi prototypes. never trust a prototype. bill swesrewshgrfdjhgfgfawitz is a badass artist, but those prices! jesus chroist! not even if i find the winning lottery ticket in the woods would i waste this kind of money on a non paranoia! product from west end games.
I never had the patience for it. All my blood bowl teams were a single colour 😂 I get what you mean about the eye sight though. I find it really hard to even read books for extended time now
I can't find this on Kickstarter?
Sadly it’s already finished. I’ll try to remind you when the PM lands
1 week left on the late backer in gamefound.
I would love to see your take on Imperium Maledictum, more Wrath and Glory, as well as the rest of your WHFR books. I'm enjoying the long form videos. There's not a lot of content for WH RPG's on UA-cam. Thank you.
Hi there. Thank you for watching and especially commenting on my video. I’m glad you enjoyed it. Yeah there isn’t, which isn’t helpful when you want to find out about the books. Next up is Winds of Magic for WHFR and I’m going to go through most of what I have too. IM is on the list as well as W&G as I’ve enjoyed going through book of them
I've got the earlier SW Solomon Kane in pdf, so I'm very interested in this - Totally agree with the comparison, I usually point potential WFRP players toward the Solomon Kane movie as a general idea. The Secret World is very much on my list, I paid for the PC game when it dropped, then paid for it again (for strange reasons) a couple of years later, only for it to drop as free to play some time later - I think of it as almost a Call of Cthulhu/ Feng Shui crossover RPG. It'll be very interesting to see if any of these have a presence at the Expo.
Glad you agree as I’m the only one that sees both worlds like each other. Still on the fence for The Secret World as I want the physical book not a PDF That would be great if they’re there. Less than a week to go!!!
@@Dungeonsanddyslexia - Definitely want the books for both, I have a group looking for monster hunter style games and they know of the Secret World online game. I'm sure I've seen a list of attending booths, but no idea where.
i was unable to spend much time online yesterday. we do dnd every other saturday currently. it was the first time we had played in a couple months. the dm works for a company that works with a company that deals with tax returns and between his overloaded work shed-yule and other player's lack of dedication we just kept having cancelation after cancelation. found out today that the sorcerer and the ranger aint coming back. turns out the sorcerer has been whining to my wife at work for some time over a enemy we encountered with fire immunity. being a sorcerer he does 2 things, fly and fireball, and whatever fire cantrip he had i dont remember. took fire immunity on a monster as a personal attack from a dm he just met. it's no loss, until yesterday i thought the ranger wa a druid and the sorcerer was a ranger. they were THAT effective at what they were supposed to be doing. we walked into a valley of bandits in the dark of night on a very important mission to my religious order. we start to set up camp when the ranger starts screaming needlessly and the sorcerer sent up a flare... to... be... funny? we pull the misson off anyway thanks to some quick thinking. butt, dang, we was told at least one of them knew their stuff. so when she aint "feel like it" they skipped out again. after mentioning how eager they were to play. whatever. i'm glad to find out they were not party member material sooner than later. the dm is a pro, tho. so instead of our planned kraken egg hunt, we had to improvise. we have been harassing pirates in a tropical setting. we have collected many bounties and have four confiscated ships in the wife's fleet. but while away from our secret island hq we recieved a letter from our enemy, the pirate queen. an ominous warning that she had taken back what we had taken from her. an arrogant boast, as we found out, she had sent a warship to our island not realizing we have a helm of teleportation on the commodore. we got back to the base just in time to see an unnatural cloud headed our way from the south. sounding the alarm we scrambled to get the ships onto the waters and sent one east, one north, and one west. we stayed behind in the biggest ship we have. (200 hp and 1 balilsta.) the war ship approaching has twenty cannons on each side, 500 hp and a fricking space battleship yamoto wave force cannon with three barrels with different effects on each barrel. three weresharks dove in the water as they approached, headed for the island to ambush the people who were no longer there. the wife (a triton barbarian, was in the water ws a hull cracker, but i called her up and had the crew spring into action. their first shot with the mega cannon missed our ship and they started swinging to port. charging straight ahead, we dropped anchor swung to port around the cape, cut the anchor, ( not so much that we cut it as it just got blasted off by their second shot. first blood = 43 hp) the dm knew i most likely wood knot run, but even after all these years he still cant predict what i will do in any given situation. we finished rounding the cape and as we passed the beach where the weresharks were at, the comodore dove off the ship, followd by myself and the rogue after a quick waterwalking spell. being more manueveable our ship escaped to protect it's crew. we engaged the weresharks while trying to avoid blasts from the cannon and pot shots from the storm cleric fanatic on the bow. the warship got close enough to get stuck on a sand bar and the cleric and the pirate crew stared to disembark. the pirate crew of fifty men. the dm was expecting us to distract the warship while the wife split the hull and sink it from below. of course at this point he's used to the unexpected happening when i'm around. long story short... we pulled through with some nigh miraculous rolls. 2 of the 3 of us had to make death saves, but after what was about two minutes that felt like four actual hours, we gots us a new boat!!! and i only had to remove curse on two of us! plus ther'es a hell of a mess on the beach, so the crabs will be happy. turns out i got a ring of fire elemental control they aint know about. charred bodies EVERYWHERE. the party ended up surrounded by difficult terrain from the blood and piling bodies. good times, good times. now we gotta deal with the fact that she knows our location now... and she has at least 9 more warships of that same class... plus the backing of an orc nation that is in league with the drow that also happens to be winning an invasive war against my own people back home. we still need to deal with the egg hunt, but i've already brainstorming an idea that may just turn the tide of the war and alter the course of history on this world... again.
Why hadn't we thought about foldable character sheets before? They Look amazing and probably give you much more space to keep notes, character bio, inventory etc without having to flip through pages.
Yes, they are amazing aren't they
I am so conflicted about this one. Solomon Kane is my absolute favorite REH creation. I have the original SW Solomon Kane line in PDF. I'd like to back this in hardcover, but I have the feeling I'd only ever get to play this online. So do I back physical, knowing that it'd likely only add to my dust-gatherer collection? Or do I stick with PDF, and feel sorry I didn't get the bug but relieved about the money and shelf space it saves? Decisions, decisions.
That’s a tough one but I’m with you on it. I really want the physical copy (as well as PDF) but I’m struggling for shelf space and the shipping fees and taxes make me want to cry
This is awesome! So glad to grab these Cypher books!
Glad it helped. Enjoy!!! I'm pleased I grabbed them all too
Predation seems the ideal setting to run something along the lines of 2000 AD's *Flesh!* or Fox's *Terra Nova* in.
That was it, Terra Nova. That was the series I was thinking and exactly why it’s the book I wanted to pick up (Terrible tv series though)
@@Dungeonsanddyslexia Years ago, back in the dim and distant '80s, I ran a Classic Traveller adventure where the player characters went down onto a Interdicted world (because it was, essentially, a Death World with lethally malevolent flora and fauna - which were much like dinosaurs and giant insect life) to retrieve an Imperial Navy McGuffin from a crashed vessel. A local Marquis with ownership of a corporation into food production and natural resource development had set up a number of covert on-planet operations to farm, harvest, and mine the planet using very dubious management practices. Of course, they didn't take kindly to the PCs presence and subsequent interference in their activities - plus they realised the McGuffin would be good for them to acquire too. Think of it a bit like a mashup between 2000 AD Flesh!, Escape from New York, Outland, and Aldiss' Hothouse. The Traveller 2d6 rules worked fine for it albeit lacking the mechanical crunch for the dinos - so to speak.
That sounds amazing. I love reliving old campaigns we ran especially those that resonate both we us as a DM but with the players too. I’ve recently bought traveller so it’s something issue I need to get on the table.
Is it just me or going through rule books is half the fun of pen&paper RPGs?
It sure is
Monte Cook Games will at UK Games Expo. The publisher's books are more widely available in the UK too it is has a more active disribution.
That’s good to know, thank you. I’ll keep an eye out for him and their books when I’m there
@@Dungeonsanddyslexia Well not sure that Monte Cook will be there himself, but the lovely Kate who organises the UK presence will be.
@PookieUK you got me excited then. At least there should be more books to purchase
@@Dungeonsanddyslexia ideally yes. There are several books I am hoping to pick up to review.
Which ones are you after? Aren’t you still about 12 months ahead on videos though
Planebreaker, the Weird and Rust & Redemption. If I had only waited about 30 days... Still worth it for some of the other titles.
Agreed. It’s an absolute bargain and so much content
This is brilliant!!!!!! ❤
Thanks mate. Such a bargain.
I can confirm the white books are 'setting' books. There are several settings included as well.
Perfect, thank you. I really enjoy learning new books and systems especially when there’s so much in these books. Needless to say, I’ve purchased them all so expect reviews and page turns on them
@@Dungeonsanddyslexia Previously I ran Fate system games for about 10 years and was looking to learn a new system and upgrade. I've fallen head I've heals for Cypher system.
@@JohnMiller-te4ov I’ve never played Fate as I’m not a fan of weird dice but then I’ve fallen for the FFG Star Wars and funny die 😂 like you, I’m really enjoying reading the cypher books and the art is bloody amazing
With books that are reprints you will get the discoloured edge due to the paper colour change. Books that are direct to PoD will not, just thought I would mention that.
Ok cool. Thanks for that. I was just really impressed with the quality of some on the POD stuff
I got the pdf myself. When it dropped, I think the postage was about £30ish on top of the book. If you or anyone you know is at the UK games expo (NEC) at the end of the month, you might strike gold there. I found the pdf a lot to take in, much preferring Deadlands and CoC Down darker trails
Good plan mate. Thanks for that. I’ll be there on the Friday and Saturday so I’ll look out for it Though as I own both SW Deadlands and DDT that I don’t need it? When has not needing a book been a reason not to buy it 🙄😂
@@Dungeonsanddyslexia - Absolute facts there, I need more shelves for the books I'll be getting at the expo, most of which I'll probably never play, but they look so good.
@@andrewbeaton4562 Anything in particular that you are hunting for?
@@Dungeonsanddyslexia - I'm always excited to see what the indies have to offer, the quirky and imaginative stuff is always a great alternative to the major games, you just need the players to go with them. The Chaosium, Triple Ace Games, FLP and Pinnacle stuff is also a must see for me. Anything you would suggest as worth seeing? It's only my second year there (No idea why it took me so long to go) and I suspect I missed a lot last time. (Just realised, same Andrew, but pc account rather than phone)
I’m the same. I love the expo, one of my favourite weekends of the year. And like you say, nice to grab indie’s. I’ll be looking a Free League too. They’ve got a load of great games with amazing art
Can't stay because I am actually playing The Enemy Within for Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, Fourth Edition!
That’s ok my friend. Thanks for jumping in anyway. I hope you’re enjoying it. Catch up at the expo to compare notes
@@Dungeonsanddyslexia absolutely. Have you got my contact details?
No. I’ll add you on Facebook if that’s easier?

@@PookieUK that’s a very good point, you did. It’ll be in my office somewhere 🙄
if y'all could only take one thing away from this game system as y'all's favorite, or the "best" aspect of this game system, what would that be? i apologize if this question gets redundant. it's definately got nothing to do with refining my homebrew system...
The harshness and brutality of the world and system. It’s a truly deadly game that makes people really have to think before blindly starting a combat for fun
For me the #1 mechanic has been opposed tests. A really cool way to make everything feel more dynamic, especially when you let players use some creative freedom in choosing which skills they use to oppose things
@@Venomousse it is an amazing mechanic.. especially when you roll to hit someone and miss but they miss their dodge rolls but more levels so you still hit them 😂
@@Dungeonsanddyslexia Being able to crit someone despite failing the opposed test is also suitably nasty.. one of the characters in my game is recovering from a bad wound from a lucky skaven assassin
It is. No such thing as a Shaven so they must be faking it 😉 I’m currently running the enemy within campaign with my group and I’m in the hinting that Skaven exist phase without revealing them
Alongside Traveller my favourite all time game system. The add on books with the white covers allow you to pick and choose to create your own subgenre settings.
Good choice!
Still way better art than the DnD books, I think
That’s so true
Just started building this with my family for game night. Impressed so far. I didn’t realize there was an adventure that came with it though- very cool!
Excellent. Glad you’re enjoy it. Yeah the adventure should be great fun. Let me know how you get on
Lol there are so many versions of Traveller, I unfortunately picked up a full set of T5. I recently went back and bought a set of the core GDW first edition books.
There are. The core book was free on drivethruRPG a few weeks back so I grabbed it there. Still not read it yet 😂
There are so many, I can't imagine getting it down to ten. On the other hand, I can point to some broad systems where almost any genre in the system is going to be on my list ; 1) Cypher System (Including Numenera) by Monte Cook games, 2) Year Zero Engine by Free League Publishing, 3) 2D20 system by Modiphius., 4) Universal Game Engine by Chaosium. I've found I like almost anything in these 4 systems. Some of my favorite settings are; 1) Old Gods of Appalachia, 2) Vaesen, 3) Numenera, 4) Blade Runner, 5) Alien, 6) Dune, 7) Star Trek Adventures, 8) Call of Cthulhu, 9) Defiant, 10) Coyote and Crow.
OH and since I haven't included any traditional fantasy, Symbaroum and Dragonbane.
There’s some great choices on there. I found using pubmeeple really helps to sort out the list
Nice to see someone else with the love for Coyote and Crow
@@Dungeonsanddyslexia it’s on my list to find some people to run at some point
@@mohnkern Sadly, that is always the issue. Too many book and not enough players and time
One of the really useful things about the MCG format is the notes in the margins that reference where to find related stuff. As you get deeper into the material it even references other books!
Thanks for the tip. I look forward to discovering them
I got hooked into Cypher System when Old Gods of Appalachia came out and now gm several games a month
Thanks for watching and commenting. That's top of my list. I now have Goods of the fall and Stay alive to read through
@@Dungeonsanddyslexia The white ""genre" books are all really good. It takes the stuff in the big red book and lets you distill what to use for specific genres.
I’ve just ordered a few more so hoping it becomes my go to game
So true
Thanks
Great sound
👍
Nice top 10 Several of those would be on my top 10 as well.
Thank you for the comment and watching my video, it’s always good to see others who like similar books.

Anytime. It's your fault I started all this in the first place :)
@@Dungeonsanddyslexia and yours is so much more professional than mine. So off to a good start.
Cool bennies
Yeah, there's a great weight and sound to them
@@Dungeonsanddyslexia Yeah, I love the sound especially.
@@Idk-ys7rt I also have the Pathfinder set, there's so much more in there but with the same great bennies
@@Dungeonsanddyslexia Nice!
Thanks
Thanks for the review
Thank you for watching and the great feedback
Pathfinder is so good about supporting GMs. I noticed the players guide for 5e has only 2 pages of how to play while pf2e has 80 lol😅
It's a very well written and put together book. I've recently started playing Savage Worlds Pathfinder and finding that a blast
Cool!
Thanks for watching. Yes, my kids loved it
