S06 - Ep14 "Custody" when Paul came back defending a former drug addicted mother. "Ben Stone once said that I would have to decide if i was a lawyer who was black, or a black man who was a lawyer. All those years I thought I was the former. All those years I was wrong". Brilliant performance.

Don Kirshner explaining how the Archies were created
America is Great Music!
the Monkees were morons. Bunch of kids who thought there were music stars. Pure stupidity.
Thank you for remastering the audio, Cheers mate
Stoner band...stoner songs...they were in the right place at the right time in the USA.....nothing more.
I remember when I first heard HWNN in 1971: I was in my kitchen at home getting ready to go to school, I think it was spring and it came on this little radio I had on the kitchen table. I thought it might've been Stills or Young. Loved it immediately.
If there's a song that best describes summer road trips, "Ventura Highway" is that song.
Just put my playlist together other day of this legendary outfit. 10 or so...of the most 'memorable, palatable, emotion-stirring' melodies, ever recorded. whisked right back to childhood, and times that were just so carefree, innocent, and good. 1. Horse; 2. Ventura; 3. Tin Man; 4. Sister Golden Hair; 5. Lonely People; 6. I Need You; 7. Daisy Jane; 8. Can do Magic; 9. Sandman; 10. Only in your Heart - God..... just some of the best music from the 1970s.....
I could swear that the "everyone you know someday will die" line was in the commercial cause I'd get chills when I'd hear that..
Probably in the very early versions.
That means, "The Archies" were the first Milli Vanilli
I got the single on the back of a cereal box.
On ‘Sugar, Sugar’ Ray Stevens…yes THAT Ray Stevens; provided the hand clap rhythm in the background
"Sugar Sugar" is NOT a Monkee song. It would have been horrible
People are always going to vilify Don Kirshner due to how he treated the Monkees and initially forbade them to play their instruments on their records, but in terms of what he did that was good, he helped launch the careers of such singer-songwriters as Bobby Darin, Neil Sedaka, Carole King, and Neil Diamond; founded the music publishing company Aldon with Al Nevins (who played a significant role in shaping the Brill Building sound of the late '50s and '60s); and produced the TV concert show, Don Kirshner's Rock Concert, in the '70s. So there! 😐
It outsold Honky Tonk Woman because it was better.
Brilliant songs - haunting, beautiful, mesmerizing.
Ventura Highway is incredible
Is this the guy that SNL was imitating with "More Cowbell?"
He's 100% right. If writing a catchy pop tune was easy, everyone would be doing it.
So according to other comments this guy is lying. Is that right? Typical, if true. Still a good song.
Archies my favorite band and cartoon l really enjoy the Archies music 🎵🎶🎶 Sugar Sugar 😊😊😊❤❤❤
I was about 10 and clearly recall sitting in front of the big old tv and watching the Archies play this song on their show and it was such a great great song and still one of my favorites. I recall at a school Christmas party i received an Archies record which was cool but didnt have Sugar sugar on it. I also recall another time getting The Partridge Familys Shopping Bag about 1972 and that was super cool too.
That wasn't Dewey...it was Gerry
Hare Krishna Hare krishna Krishna krishna Hare Krishna Hare krishna Krishna krishna hare hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare!!!!!!❤😂🎉😢😮😅😊2024🤔🤨😐😑😶🙄😏😆
I love the song "A HORSE WITH NO NAME", the chords are a little to tricky to play though .... Em9 , F#m11 omitted 9th !!
I play( America) on my guitar all their hit greatest hit's (America .)........
Great song.Great harmonies. Could listen to their music all day.
There's was one of the first albums o ever bought, still have it and still listen go it
You didn’t mention that Ron Dante was the voice behind the record
It's hit and hasn't lost touch❤
This ran on a promo disc that played daily when I worked at blockbuster video. Loved the way the song was edited and shortened, I downloaded the album and edited it through software exactly the same, and created an advertisement for my photography.
My favorite song by America is Three Roses.
For me ! Even though Highway is in the title ! It really gives you a vibe of being out on the interstate traveling on a sunny day with cotton ball clouds withe sky as blue as could be ! It is one of the all time best road songs ! Space ace Ron⚡️⚡️⚡️
Duly noted that the song is the only thing the only hit 4 them
They did another song (Jingle Jangle) that made the Top 10.
I just FEELS sooo good! , like the most naturally flowing and infectious song of all time ,the king of X-Factors!
Challenge!! Who can name everybody in that commercial?? Starting with: Wayne Coyne
I see Beyonce, Chris Martin, Jason Mraz, Amy Lee, J Lo, Sting, Dave Matthews, Pat Monahan, Rob Thomas and Michelle Branch.
Mark McGrath, Benji Madden (Good Charlotte) Gwen Stefani (No Doubt, Ashanti, Flea, Chris Cornell, Mary J.Blige, Kelly Rowald, Liz Phair, Justin Timberlake (Senorita), Nelly, Taylor Jenkins, Dave Navarro, Perry Farrell, Johnny Rzneck(Goo Goo Dolls), Christina Aguilera
America is my favorite band with the Beatles too!!! The reason George Martin produced both bands . ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🎶🎶🎸🎸🎼
Michael Forrest is still alive at 94. There must be a bit of Apollo in him still.
Ventura Highway and A Horse With No Name shall be as fresh in 50 years time as it is today ,50 years after it was written and released ! It's just wonderful music making ...
Ventura Hiighway ..Came out just at the right time ..I was a young guy living in New Zealand..Just bought a 750 Bike...New Girlfriend ...it still reminds me today when I hear that song of being on my bike ,Summer Breeze in my Face and riding down the Country Roads..Life was sweet..No worries just a long Road ahead of me...GF on the back ..Who cared what the future was...Living the dream.
I could listen to Ventura Highway on repeat forever and never get tired of it. In fact, I have it as my alarm on my phone. Makes me wake up with a smile on my face. 🙂
I did that on the drive from Ventura to San Diego. On repeat the whole way. Made it a very special journey.
Geht mir so mit you can do magic❤
The legendary drummer Hal Blaine was the drummer on this song in the studio
that is Ventura highway
I literally just got choked up with emotion from the memories and the nostalgia from 2003 by watching this ad. At 14, I felt that I had the world on a string. I can't believe *twenty years* had went by.
They had some really nice songs . I think Tin Man by Dewey , Sister Colden Hair by Gerry and Lonely People by Dan are my favorites but Ventura Highway , I Need You and Don't cross the River are very good also.
love america music they made me wanna play acoustic wich i do today my fav guitar did u know horse with no name is only 2 chords that it........and purple rain from prince he got from ventura highway i been hit by purple rain and janet jackson sample lets wait awhile from daisy jane she also sample be my lover sampled ventura highway at the start of the song so america has been an influence to ppl their music still sounds good love em xox
"Ventura Highway" is one of my favorite all-time songs. I actually think the stuff they evolved into rock was great too. I love "Woman Tonight" and "Magic".
Kirshner was very talented, but must have been tough to work with, as evidenced by his attitude here. The Monkees were right to turn it down - their hits were much better and more clever than "Sugar, Sugar" actually rivaling some Beatles songs in their quality (Clakesville, Believer, Daydream, Little Bit of, Words, etc.).
When vh1 was music first
Made legendary tracks that will live forever ❤
Wo was behind josie and the pussycats
70's bands like America are timeless with their great music.
epic ad.
