I'm sorry I don't think taxes and fees are anywhere near 30%....you will need to prove that to me with a submitted building permit. I built a 5 bedroom 5 bathroom house back in 2005 valued at 575K, and building permit fees were around $6000. 180K is ridiculous...What I do know for sure is that builder's markups have gone up from 12% back then up to 60% depending on the luxurious nature of the home. Also take note of home project packages available through Menards in the US. They offer complete home construction packages, including lumber, trusses, drywall, flooring, kitchen, electrical, plumbing etc right down to the plumbing and light fixtures...only things missing are foundation, utility connections, appliances and labour...these very nice home packages can be purchased starting at just over 100K USD and up... The problem people have is they are being misled regarding the costs to build a home by many sources....
