0:16, 0:29, 0:33, 2:23, 3:34 Who is the man leading the prayer "shout" and the one singing with the hat and the tambourine? Looks so familiar - moved me to tears, with Hope and Glory. Wow. Chills.
Who is the wonderful singer leading the chant? There was a close up of him in the beginning of the prayer but I can't find his name anywhere. Terrific singing by all, and this beautiful song and choir is NOT included on James Horner's soundtrack album, not even the extended version. WHY? WHERE TO FIND MORE? I have it on repeat right now. Thanks for posting this scene.
Praying to and praising the same "God" who whites believed gave them the right to own them...
Thank you for posting this scene: I have looked EVERYWHERE for it, and it is not included on either of the soundtracks available. "Glory (1989) - 54th Infantry Pre Battle Song Oh My Lord" This excerpt is one of the best parts of this entire film, and has moved me like no other. Finally found this scene HERE, before this infantry went into battle, with the beautiful spiritual song performed by Sweet Honey in the Rock. Thank God the Civil War had the "RIGHT" outcome, and we are facing the same fight in a slightly different way now, in 2024. We must never let up and stand up for what is RIGHT forevermore. Here's another slightly shorter scene excerpt with excellent video notes: ua-cam.com/video/j3HxemRElGY/v-deo.html

I love negro spirituals, because we are foundational black Americans.

"Hey, Denzel, got a small favor to ask. You know that scene before the battle? The part where you get up to speak for, like, 10 lines (half of which are about not wanting to get up to speak in the first place)? Yeah, we're hoping maybe you could make that the emotional center of the entire movie. We will be giving you almost two minutes of screen time to do it in. That oughta be enough, right?"
Harlem brothers in arms
It's perfect
Denzel Washington won best supporting actor for this role. Well deserved.
Morgan Freeman got up and preached that! 🙏
The spirit of them is I credible
Love the 54th
If we die Let our family no we went down standing up we died fighting for freesom
I’d like to hear more from the first guy, and Morgan’s really channeling that southern evangelical priest in Times Square
If tomorrow is our great gettin up morning. What a line. If I was nervous about going into battle the next day, I wouldn't be after listen to that whole speech.
Love this movie
If that what didn't happen ( and I'm pretty sure it did) , then it should have happened. For the boys died. But God would not let them die in vain.
What is the name of the song sung in the scene
"we want them to know, that we went down, standing up!"
"I Loves the Fifty Four" 👍🏿👍🏿
This Scene HAS GOT TO be Inspired by Jesus Christ Himself ❤❤
Don't know why, but every time I've watched this scene, I get chills. There's acting and there's real moments, this is the latter. You can't fake sincerity and these men were sincere in their expression.
One of the subtle developments in this movie is Jupiter learning to read. At first he can’t read and Thomas happily offers to teach him how to read. Theres a scene in the middle where Jupiter is reading (the bible I think) bit by bit. Here he has clearly learned a lot within a short time and quotes the book.
When all your Fav actors are all in one of the Best Movie Scenes in History.
❤
They off to fight the crips?
John P. Kee was amazing with that first verse
Never knew that was him!!
Beautiful
It’s a cute sentiment, but unfortunately giving bl**k people freedom resulted in a major miscalculation. They don’t appreciate their freedom & they damn sure do not respect this country or the battles that were fought to make them FREE men. Burning the flag, bitching & complaining at every chance they get, never truly seeing themselves as part of America. It’s because they aren’t. America was founded on a white, Christian identity. If you take that away from America, she no longer has her identity and will be unrecognizable. As America becomes less white, America will decline & eventually become a destroyed, shell of her former self. We celebrate this? I for one will never celebrate this. The Confederacy fought a valiant fight and I salute them. Blood & soil 👊🏻
funny and ironic that you say that you are less American and ect but support a institute that didn’t find themselves American and something else to the point they were willing to destroy America so they could save their institutions of slavery and oppress those to make more wealth from it. If anyone who doesn’t sound American, it’s you.
“Y’all’s the only family I got.” Stop chopping onions mom, jeez
