Did this throw a p0597 code. If so did it fix the problem?
Changed the timing chain on my 528i, I forgot to replace the black plug (part # 11277606092) in the oil pump. How concerned should I be? Will it damage the oil pump?
How many meters of butyl is needed?
@JosephM-c1u asked a great (un-answered) question. This video only shows how to remove and install the actuators (covers and Joseph stated) off and on. I came to see how to get the actual solenoids which you never touched out, cleaned or replaced. From my research, this cannot be done without professional servicing as you are messing with the "timing" which is very serious. I have talked to my BMW advisor and 3 different European mechanics with the same result. I was hoping UA-cam University would be helpful, but I was wrong. Wasted 3mins and 19 secs
I think there is a misunderstanding here, the n20 engine is different than the previous engines. Those are the actual Solenoid Actuators. You are probably refering to the "Oil Control Valve", which is the actual VANOS bolt. If you are replacing the solenoid, then it's a simple swap by removing two screws and the electrical connector. They are sealed and there is no adjustment. If you are replacing the valve, then the cover has to come off, and the cams locked down. This video Includes the removal of the Oil Control Valves: ua-cam.com/video/H51VLU9Myt4/v-deo.html Solenoid Actuator: parts.bmwofsouthatlanta.com/oem-parts/bmw-solenoid-actuator-11367593719 Oil Control Valve: parts.bmwofsouthatlanta.com/oem-parts/bmw-engine-variable-valve-timing-vvt-oil-control-valve-11367583820?srsltid=AfmBOooG9eH9mXwSKRGdndkLPsm-kzUBpI9yMAmI8VqihwNkc3RVCp5Z
Very clear and detailed instructions, easy to follow, especially clear on how to unclip and remove the window switch. Thanks very much
Awesome video! The best I have found to do this! New suscriber!
👌👌👌👌
I've seen many of these N20 videos, this one is one of the Best! Love the clear video and spec write up, well done. I have many years of experience and getting ready to do my '14 528i. I had a couple questions for you. Looks like some video editing. Oil pan @ 18, Crank locking tool @ 25, but Oil pan is still installed. NP, but Cam bolts @ 23, Crank Bolt @ 30, did you remove the Cam sprockets before the Crank Bolt?? Just haven't seen that before. My main question: I have a 1/2" Impact @ 1200ft/lb & 3/4" impact @ 1600ft/lb, can't I use an impact to remove the Crank Bolt (plenty of room on a 528i)?? I've always used them in the past, but not on this application. I think the most they would hurt is stretching the timing chain, but not if the Cams are removed.
Thank you. Yes, there is some editing, making the videos makes the job far more time consuming, specially since I do this without any help and I have several videos that I have not edited yet. Sometimes using parts of videos from other jobs save me time, sometimes the videos don't come out right and I have to replace them or redo them. You can just focus on the specifics, on the crankshaft lock, yes, the oil pan is installed but just focus on the installation of the tool. Same for the other things. For your main question, once you lock the crankshaft, the chain is not going to pull the the sprockets. I too have a 1/2" Impact @ 120 ft/lb, a 3/4" and it does incredible things. For the most part I use BMW TIS to make the videos so with some exceptions, the order of the procedures is based on TIS. I don't see why not try using the 3/4" impact wrench, it should easily do the job, I did not use mine because BMW clearly states not to use 1/2". if you do this with a breaker bar you should be able to realize (feel) that without any doubts, 1/2" will not hold.
@@goroundfun6034 Thanks for the quick reply. I agree with the making videos issue. My wife keeps telling me to make videos, but she won't help and I just can't spend so much more time to get the job done. So I do appreciate those like you that spend the time for a quality video. I'll probably try the 3/4" breaker bar first, then the impact if it is too difficult. I'm only concerned about the impact "banging" the flywheel teeth. I will also probably remove the Hub & sprocket as one unit when I take out the Crank bolt. I believe the Crank seal can be replaced without the tool if the sprocket is removed.
The breaker bar needs to be long or extended, I add a jack handle, specially when you tighten the bolt. I think the impact banging would not be an issue, the tool holds the flywheel very well without any damage to the teeth but I understand your concern and It is up to you. You can remove the vibration damper whith the hub, but you do want them separated for installation. It will be easier to install the hub which goes into the gear first and then the pump and you need to move the hub a little bit vertically and sideways. For this reason, you dont want to install the seal first and you will need the tool to install it. You can remove the seal without the tool after removing the hub, but you must be very carefull not scratch the metal, you can create a groove for and oil leak. BMW TIS clearly has a warning about this.
How do you take them out once you removed the covers
I don't understand your question, what covers? those are not covers, they are the actual solenoids.
Great video! I could only find one other video on UA-cam that shows how to take the oil pan out. Yours is better. Thanks.
Thank you for the great video. How did you keep your hands clean? Mine were greased up, swollen, and cut up. Dealer wanted $4k to replace that retarded place coolant hose.

TEKTON 1/4 Inch Drive Dual-Direction Click Torque Wrench (10-150 in.-lb.) | TRQ21101
Did you have an error message for doing this? If yes, what was the error code?
No, it was leaking coolant from the inlet line.
Great video. Thanks a lot!
That’s amazing instructions
quick question, do you happen to know what that black line is behind the turbo oil line?
It is a vent line, be careful with that, it is plastic and it can break.
Thank you so much for this detailed video. Respect to you 🤝🤝🤝

Excelente video, ajudou demais na troca da minha turbina 👏👏👏
i’ve been trying to look for a video but all the ones i get are for n54 are the vanos actuators the same as the solenoids on n54 since f30 are newer they changed?
How did you get the vacuum pump seal off the valve cover?
For that you need to remove the valve cover, otherwise you run the risk of getting an oil leak.
Can u replace the coolant libes without removing turbo? Or partial removal?doing o ings didnt stop coolant leak for me.
You can not replace the lines without removing the turbo. The leaks are normally not from the o-rings, they are from the rubber part of the lines, which over time crack and start leaking.
Great Video well done👍
What are the names of the tools you used? I need that same ratchet. Or similar. Everything I have seems to big to fit back there to remove the vacuum pump. Yours looks perfect.

If you can't fit the torque wrench, add a swivel.
@@goroundfun6034 Thank you so much. That did it! This was exactly what I needed.
Did you have to hold the engine up when you removed the motor mount control arm with the 4 E12?
You don't need to remove the mount to remove the CAT. In the video, the mount has been removed mainly to show it better. That is why the instructions don't say to remove it. Now, that being said, if you don't have a helper and you have the right tools, it takes 5 minutes to remove the mount and it gives you a lot more space to work on the clamp. Re-installing the clamp the right way sometimes is a pain, so extra space helps very much. To answer your question, if you need to remove the mount you must hold the engine.
@@goroundfun6034 Ok cool! That's what I'm going to do. I'm waiting on an engine support bar and already got pretty much all the bolts cracked loose but I'll definitely remove that motor mount control arm it makes sense to make the job easier. Thanks
@@goroundfun6034 Yeah I have the right tools. 4) E12 and a 17mm on the top of motor mount. That should be all I need to remove control arm and top 17mm nut.
Lol Appreciate you making it look real easy and not telling us that the control arm has to come off. Lol Anyway thanks for the video it helped
Nice video... just wanted to know if the two T20 door handle screws are different lengths (if the position of each one matters) because mine don't seem to get into place properly, I mean they go inside but they are still loose... I just left them like that for now and rely on the two T30 ones that are holding the handle in place... maybe I'll remove everything again and check again why those screws don't get some grip... I checked them on the handle directly to see if they fit and they do, but somehow when I try to mount them from the panel, they remain loose, like the door handle plastic they fit in is shorter or smth like that... hope you understood my point, english is not my native language. Thanks!
the 2 t20 are the same size. Make sure that the T20 on top is the most forward screw and the one on the bottom is the most rearward. if you put the T30 screws where the T20s are supposed to go, then most likely the holes have been enlarged and you might have to fill them with epoxy.
i got intake camshaft out of tolerance could it be this or timing chain
131908 - Variable camshaft timing control (VANOS), intake, cold start: Position not reached. i got that no clue wtf it could be
@@BryanMartinez-b3r yours specifically states vanos, my best bet would be the vanoss gear maybe stuck, easy way to check is take rocket cover off, turn over the engine by hand and you will see it seize up if that is the issue, if not check all the other components of the vanoss system like the solenoids and stuff see if they sticking and allowing oil through
Thanks for the removal portion, bout to install this vrsf dp
Just did it and it was really ass. Thanks for the video tho
i have 3 Errors 130308 120408 and P0015 i am thinking to change vanos exhaust system and solenoid will it be enough? thanks. your video is very well done very helpful bmw f30 320i 184ps

Did you put in new turbo or used one?
The same turbo. It is in good condition.
TO EVERYONE HERE WONDERING ⁉️ YOU DO NOT NEED TO LIFT THE ENGINE AT ALL OR LOOSEN THE MOTOR MOUNT. I JUST DID THIS AND TOOK IT OUT THRU THE BOTTOM BUT YOU CAN TAKE IT OUT FROM THE TOP ALSO‼️
how did you get out the engine bracket and that mount right under the cat there? i’m stuck on that right now don’t have enough space to slide them out and i don’t have an engine lift either
This is exactly what I was searching for. Thank you very much!!!
which size of Butyl? thanks
www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09KBKB9S2/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
will this clear code P05CC and P052B? I have 2014 f32 n20.
Those codes are related to low oil pressure in the Vanos system. First thing is to check the engine oil level. Check your timing, if it is fine, then you have a problem with the Vanos.
You don’t need to lift the engine at all when doing this job, or untighten the motor mount. If u remove the air intake u can remove the turbo out to the front of the engine
Is it the same for xdrive? I am literally about to start this project with close to no experience just UA-cam videos. It's a 2013 BMW 528i xdrive. Any advice?
@@hamburger6133yes bro you don’t need to lift the engine at all or remove the mount

I use a high pressure washer.
i did that my code went off for 2 weeks but now it popped back again
How do i know when these are going Bad!!
Check engine light with the code that tells you so.
@@goroundfun6034 Thank you Sir
@@goroundfun6034may i know what code?
Good video to support the FCP euro video! Word of advise, when installing ANY sensor with an O ring, make SURE the old Oring is not stuck in the hole going in with a new one on top of the old one will cause you problems, especially Cam sensors will make your car run rough thinking your timing was off, recheck your timing again…. When it is just an extra o ring messing up readings! Ask me how I know!
This will help a lot of people Thanks for posting
Great video!
Excelente trabajo
