Part one in a series of basic traditional upholstery tutorials. In this tutorial I show you how to web a piece of furniture traditionally with hammer and tack.
Your tutorials give me hope, and made me not give up. Thank you ever so much - you are an angel to put so much effort and patience.
They seem high……
Those are not webbing tacks. Unreal???
Anyone know his instagram?
Great video for a first attempt 👍🏻. Very clear explanation of the process. Looking forward to seeing your next video. Thank you 🙏
Looking forward to seeing how you load the tack on the tack hammer.
I love your tutorials. I’m in the US so I don’t know what an improved tack is. Also what size tack are you using.
Easy to follow, clear instruction. Thank you.
What size twine do you use?
Hi thanks for your tutorial!!! It is great! Do you prefer the kind of webbing stretcher you use here of the gooseneck stretcher?
Csn you do this without a webbing stretcher if you get another pair of hands to pull while the other tacks
Please do more videos😊
Perfectly clear explanation and instruction. That is encouraging. Thank you!
Would love to learn more. I don't see any information on sourcing materials. No spring info.
Very helpful thanks 🤩
Is there a video for the next stage. Have followed 2 tying springs
Hi thank you for the video! Was very informative! I’ve been trying to find info on placing coil springs… for example how far apart should they be, and how far from the edge? Also when tieing down, how much of a slant should the springs be at the edge? What are the general rules? I tried to find your email to send pictures of the chair I will be doing
Thanks for the tutorials, they're brilliant. By following them I've got my webbing on and springs tied onto the webbing. There were only three springs in the chair originally, in a triangular formation - two towards the front, one in the centre back. Should the back one be lashed on its own, north to south and east to west on the chair but not attached to the other two or what can you advise? Thanks in advance.
Do you have an IG acc to be able to see more videos or ask questions about my project?
Brilliant tutorial. Thanks so much
Thanks so much for this informative video. I found Your teaching technique is excellent, as I am a beginner at upholstery.
Thanks so much for a really clear demo Just need to get started now!
Thanks for a great video, could I have a spot of advice please? My 94 year old Mother, has a sofa from about 1900. The top velvet surface is all OK, but the webbing across the bottom has weakened and is hanging down in places. I've bought replacement webbing, a webbing stretcher and tacks and am happy to replace the webbing but this will have to be done from the bottom, I'm not keen to remove the top covering. Have you any idea how I can fix the springs to the webbing from the bottom?! Many thanks - Chris
Surely this is cord not twine ?
Thank You
Very good instruction. Thank you. Your technique is easy to follow and to understand. Keep posting more videos.
Fab tutorial I’m new to upholstery was lost on springs but your instructions has made it clear thank you
Where abouts are you based? Must be Yorkshire.
Would be good to know why we lash please?
Why can't I find any more of your video tutorials? I found these really useful. Hope to see more soom
Thank you ….great tutorial. Had to help reupholster some old heirloom chairs for a friend. This was clear and extremely easy to understand for this old lady.👍👏👏👏
Hello! I need help selecting springs for a chair I am working on. How do I get in touch?
Great Video.. How do i know what length and gauge spring to use..
I’m so glad I found this spring tutorial, I’ve made a Morris chair and I want to start my seat upholstery, I need help choosing correct spring size, along with a referral on where to purchase the springs and materials. Any help you could give would be extremely appreciated. Thanks Dale
Excellent video thanks!
Where can I obtain needle and twine for sewing springs to webbing?
Awesome excellent video. I have a question about on what size and gauge I would need for the back rest part of an antique barber chair project
Great tutorial. I have ordered webbing, hourglass springs, hessian and calico. I would also like to see how to install the hessian and calico and also what foam to put on top of the hessian. Keep up the tutorials, great work. Thank you.
I don’t do insta so what’s your email please
Yes I am enjoying these demos especially as they are not delivered in an American accent. I too would like explanations as to why you choose a particular method please. Whilst you understand as a viewer I need to know the reasoning , even it’s because you were taught that way, I would very much like you to follow the springing with the hessian etc. So there is a step by step set of vids that demonstrate all the techniques required, cheers Andrew A
It would be useful to know why you choose that particular direction of spring top ? Yes I understand they should all point the same way but does it matter which way ?
Very good, well paced, clear and informative demonstration so well done you
Also, do you have a part 3 for adding the hessian? Regards, Alison
Hi, excellent video. Can I ask why you don't tie the first coil of the spring on the first and last springs? Regardfs, Alison
Wants a flat platform not a dome
Very good tutorial. Thanks. Does the whole weight of a person sitting on the finished chair rest on this webbing? I have an antique chair I'm webbing but the wood around the edges where you hammer the nails to secure the webbing isn't that great. It has so many previous nail holes and the wood is cracking a bit as well. I have done the webbing but I'm worried once its all finished that the webbing won't hold the weight of a person from where its attached to the crappy wood. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. :-) Thanks again for the awesome well presented Vid.
Hi Lachlan thanks for your message. Cracks certainly aren't great for support. One work around is to use the opposite side of the rail, i.e if you are currently nailing to the bottom, nail the webbing to the top instead. Another is to use a staple gun, the holes are obviously smaller than a tack and should improve the webbing's security. Apart from that there are some wood hardeners on the market and you could attempt to repair the wood slightly.
@@maus1803 Thanks!! I might try and find some wood hardener, as using the bottom of the rail isn't an option for this particular chair, as it's a different type of chair to the one in your video. Thanks again for your help though mate. Cheers.
Thanks mate, exactly what I was looking for. Best tutorial on the net for this spring tying. I'll be using your other videos for my next stages too. You're a legend. Thanks.
Really helpful - thank you!
