Life At 7 Knots
United States
Приєднався 14 лют 2021
My husband Jim and I (Donna) have lived aboard sail and motor boats for the last three decades. We currently live aboard a Willard 40 trawler In Connecticut during the summer and a BHM 32 trawler (Lobster yacht) in Florida for the winter. We thought we would share our adventures.

Dyer Dinghy Project Part 1
Переглядів 27114 днів тому
We bought a used sailing dinghy that looked good at first glance, but we discovered the gunwale was rotten. We couldn't get a replacement before leaving for Florida, so we are attempting to shore up the rotten wood with epoxy. Enjoy part one of this DYI adventure!

We Are One, Uncle Harrys Song

This is a song I wrote inspired by the words of my Uncle Harry.
Acrophobia = fear of heights.
Nice job but I am surprised you did not put the oarlocks on before you applied the gunnel guard.
My husband thought about it but the oarlocks are on the side of the gunwales that are not covered. We will add those now that we got her to Florida
Thanks for sharing. I am restoring a Dyer Midget as well and could really use some help. My Midget came w/o seat brackets (the boat had been modified to have ledgers on which the seats rested). It would be great if you might be willing to take a few measurements off your boat. (1) the distance from the the transom (outside edge) to the aft edges of the two forward seats and (2) the vertical distance from top of the gunnel to the top of each seat. I don’t want to buy new seat brackets (too expensive) so I am going to fabricate some wood knees out of laminated mahogany. Thanks.
I'll try to get those measurements to you tomorrow. Thanks for watching!
Here are the measurements: Aft gunnel to the middle seat (aft seat-edge) is 39 inches and to the forward seat aft seat-edge is 70 inches. From the bottom of the seats to the top of the gunnels is: 6 5/8ths inches
Huge job! Hope you get it ready in time. And lovely to hear your voices.
That was way more than 7 kts! Fortunately everybody was fine. Thanks for sharing and fair winds!
I wondered if you could get turned around out there and get lost! You are so adventurous! You got so close to that deer! They snort or "huff" when startled or warn others of potential danger. PS I love that you still say 'cool beans'! 🥰
I have a pretty good sense of direction plus I look at the charts before I leave the boat so I know where I'm going. Still, sometimes I am relieved when I know I am on the right track.
Looks like you are having a blast!
The crackling sounds gave me flashbacks to diving and snorkeling on reefs
That is beautiful footage, but I feel like you need to be closer to the boat in case a shark gets too close! xoxo
Jim kept a close eye on me the whole time. I did see a barracuda which was cool!
