Finally the 'Eren ate his own dad, that's why we didn't see him all this time' reveal 😂 I was getting so nervous cause every time they discussed who Eren ate, I thought they'd eventually bring up this theory, especially Biraj 😆 It's so funny tho how none of us were able to connect these dots when we first watched it. Did you have an inkling about that on your first watch, Ronnie, or were you just as gobsmacked as most of us? 🤣

the storytelling in this anime, god damn

In the manga chapters corresponding to episode 1 of season 3, Hange was doing experiements with Eren's transformations. He was only able to transform 3 times in a row (important detail for several later episodes, but not mentioned in the anime), and the anime only showed the third time where was hanging out of the titan. But in one of those first two transformations, Eren remembered something and wrote it down as a titan. He wrote something along the lines of "what my father did to me...", and that was in reference to his father turning him to a titan. Probably removed from the anime bcause it's too much info at that stage.

For Ronnie, not sure if you're a manga reader, but I highly recommend the spin-off manga, "Bad Boy", which is about Levi's childhood. It was released about 6 or so months ago. Definitely don't share it with the others until after they finish AoT, as it contains some spoilers from s4.

The whole mystery will be revealed anyway. So I want you guys to not just guess the story after you finish watching, but to talk more about your feelings.

Regarding the "anime thing", where Sasha's eyes glow red and she acts very animalistic, etc, I have a theory on why that was put in. There are very few moments like that throughout AoT, however I think it was put in deliberately in this episode so that when/if you catch the moment Eren's head is steaming, you think it's yet another "anime thing" where emotions, characteristics, injuries, etc are exaggerated for emphasis or comedic effect.
