CAN YOU LIVE OFF €100,- PER DAY AS A FAMILY OF FOUR?? With the cost of living rising everywhere (also here in Asia), it keeps amazing me how much (or actually little) we spend to live this lifestyle we dreamed of for so long. Before we started, we couldn't find a good indication of what we should budget for anywhere, so that's why we are determined to share ours! Here is the total breakdown for March 2024: AIRPLANE €0,-: SLOW TRAVEL!! It is the way to go for so many reasons. TRANSPORT €141,-: this includes Grab from Desaru to Johor, a trip to Singapore (train and bus), all the transportation in Singapore (6 days), and all our Grabs in Desaru. HOUSING €900,-: 5 nights in Singapore were expensive, but we got a good deal the other days. We always look for monthly deals on Airbnb, which saves us so much money. FOOD €572,-: this includes eating out almost every day in Singapore, since we were hardly at home. FUN €500,-: This includes three trips to a waterpark, the Fruit Farm, and a guided Tide Pool tour in Desaru. In Singapore, we went to Universal Studios, Art Science Museum, Cloud Forest & Flower Dome, Wings of Time, and The Jewel at Changi Airport. VISA €0,-: 🙌 INSURANCE €375,-: standard fee MEDICAL €42,-: David injured his thumb trying to open a coconut... Don't recommend it, but the stitches were cheap. MISCELLANEOUS €521,-: We invested in a few things like a sports bag that we used for the kids' toys, new shoes for Rafael, and the biggest one; a secondary action cam. (It's a long story but our GoPro broke and the replacement under our warranty took forever (the show must go on, right?!) so now we have two action cams 🙄. Oh well ... GIFTS/DONATIONS €50,-: nothing special TOTAL €3101,- PER DAY €100,- 🥳🥳 This is a great average for us, considering our time in Singapore. IS SINGAPORE TOO EXPENSIVE?? 🤔 The cost of living in Singapore is much higher than its neighboring countries, so yes, it is pretty expensive when you compare it that way. Food, accommodation, entrance tickets for museums, attractions, etc., really add up quickly. But... We were also surprised to learn that many things actually are pretty cheap here. For example, public transportation (both our kids traveled for free) and lots of amazing activities are free too. If you plan your trip well, you can really make the most of this place, which we certainly tried. Here is our breakdown after spending 6 days/5 nights in Singapore: AIRPLANE €0,-: we took a bus to Singapore. TRANSPORT €90,-: this includes the bus to Singapore, the train ticket leaving Singapore, a handful of Grab rides, and hours of public transportation through the city (our favorite mode). HOUSING €294,-: we got an amazing deal for a family room with breakfast. FOOD €169,-: this includes eating out every day (since we were almost never home, except for sleeping). FUN €206,-: this includes Universal Studios, Sentosa Island, Changi Airport, The Jewel, Art Science Museum, Cloud Forest & Flower Dome, and so much sightseeing. HERE ARE THE DETAILS 👉👉 AIRPLANE €0,- : Slow traveling saves us sooo much in so many ways, this is just one. TRANSPORT €120,- : The train from Singapore to Malaysia, a long bus from Johor to Melakka and some Grab. HOUSING €482,-: we had an amazing deal in Johor Bahru, this also includes one night in Singapore FOOD €514,-: mostly grocery store, but we also eat our when we are put and about l. FUN €335,-: we went to Lego Land, and Lego Waterpark, bought some Lego sets for the kids too. We also did a massage, went to the cinema, and did some touristy attraction in Melakka town. VISA €0,- : ♥️♥️ INSURANCE €375,-: standard fee MEDICAL €0,-: 🥳🥳 MISCELANIOUS €667,-: I bought myself DaVinci Resolve Studio, which I am soo happy about. We also bought a suitcase set and some extra clothing since we are heading to The Netherlands soon! 🧡 GIFTS/DONATIONS €58,-: nothing special TOTAL €2551,- PER DAY €85,- This total cost is actually very average for us and a good indicator of what we spend per day/per month living this lifestyle.
