Developed for Composers Collaborative, Inc.'s Serial Underground series at New York's legendary Cornelia Street Café between 2004 and 2006, “The Gold Standard” is a 60-minute theater piece for acting and singing pianist, performed by Jed Distler, who wrote the music. The book and libretto are by playwright Ed Schmidt, directed by Arnold Barkus with lighting design by David Lovett.
Schmidt describes this one-man tour-de-force as “the story of one helluv’an observant piano player doing battle with the demons of a cultural ecology.”
Here is Distler's performance recorded live at the Cornelia Street Café in August 2007, filmed by videographer Carlton Bright.

Epic!
181 views from today are going to change into thousands pretty soon. It will be cool to observe that.
The trills are so much fun!
Thank you, I enjoyed the performance very much. I especially liked the Waxman 👍
Спасибо за прекрасную музыку и ваше вдохновение💖
Your Bach is beautiful, perfect, thanks and wait for more 👍🥰❤
Another good performance dear!! I love your piano work, I subscribed!
Beautiful 😂🎉😂❤❤
Bravo.❤❤❤
Big THANKS for Martin Garcia Garcia and Salon Concerts... 🥰🥰❤️❤️
Superb playing, I miss the 2021 Chopin competition
Big BRAVO ❤😂🎉😂❤
Beatuiful Azalea! You are fabulous!
Fantastic masterclass . Thank you Martin Garcia Garcia.
Wow - plowed through op 25 - no 6 like it was a walk in the park. Well done!
I found Mr. Grant's remarks easier to follow when I turned on the closed captions.
I fully enjoyed this wonderfully talented musician playing Chopin.
Man her program is like a combination of the first three rounds of the Chopin competition (sans the nocturne), and to play it all in one go? what a beast 👏
First!
We'd like to mention that Bruce Posner (who speaks his reminiscences at 55:45) was an equal member of the steering committee responsible for organizing this event, together with Ronn Yedidia, Jon M. Samuels, and myself. Happy viewing, all!
Thank you for all the wonderful music! It’s bittersweet to hear Dr Mikowsky message.
very grateful to see a top-down perspective from the camera. it's sometimes hard to parse how big chords and jumps truly are from a traditional side view and it makes it so much more impressive!
Thanks for making these classes available. ❤
Thank you so much for posting this. I look forward to Part 2.
That’s awesome Bravo 👏👏 I didn’t know about this one
The Pleyel has a much more immediate sound, it seems, but so much depends on the microphones. The wrong finish, or too thick, can easily inhibit the tone of an instrument. Rubbing the finish to a glossy state thins it, I'm sure.
Some of this music only a pianist could love.
Wonder concert, talented musicians. A great tribute for a great man.
bravo 我的老大哥

🙏🥰❤❤ A few weeks after this recital by Alba Ventura at Klavierhaus (New York), in tribute to Alicia de Larrocha, Joe Patrych suddenly left us. I think these must be one of the last (if not the last) images he appears in... Thank you, Joe, wherever you are, for your kindness and your involvement in the event. Rest in peace. Alicia Torra
Actually, all the Liszt too. ❤😂🎉❤❤
This man is a big talent. Loved everything he played, especially the Ravel and Beethoven. Please have him again soon, Klavierhaus. ❤😂🎉😂❤❤
The dude is like Yevgeni Kissin ... if you know what I mean. I hope one day he will return to performing listenable and enjoyable music, because even though the guy is an incredibly good pianist, this program is a serious punishment for the listener who just wants to enjoy the true beauty of music and does not want to suffer from raped scientific complexity. In my humble opinion, music is meant to make us happy by listening to music, to enjoy the beauty of music and to entertain us. Music is not meant to rape our minds and heart. Sorry for my conservative opinion, I didn't mean to offend anyone.

Han Chen! Bravo!!!!
Впервые наткнулся на такую музыку. Однако эмоций в ней больше чем в большинстве современной музыки. Приятно было слушать. Спасибо

a joy to listen to such a piano monster talk on his taste
lowk based session
Omg, omg!! How did this young artist learn all he played here and memorized it too? What a phenomenon! And very humble and knowledgeable too. Encores, please!! ❤😂🎉😂❤❤
Amazing concert! The Prokofiev was outstanding 💐
