No one should move to Durango

Durango is a horrible place to live

I need to correct your title. For starters, it is Forest Lakes, not Forrest Lakes. You are confusing this with Forrest Groves Estates, named for the original developer. Forest Lakes was first envisioned as a vacation community, it even had a ski area. While Forest Lakes subdivision is in the Bayfield postal address area, Forest Lakes IS NOT IN the TOWN of Bayfield. Repeat, Forest Lakes is not in the Town of Bayfield. Residents of Forest Lakes can live there, work in Durango, and never set foot in Bayfield proper. IN fact, many do exactly that. They are like ghost citizens whose kids go to school in Bayfield but you never see them otherwise and yet they wonder why they can't vote in Town Board elections.

Great vid! Just wish it was warmer! I’m in southern Michigan and it’s early November and it’s going to be 55-70 degrees next week. It’s in the 30’s and 40’s in Durango next week 🥶 it looks like Durango is about 5-10 degrees colder most of the year when comparing the average temps and also snowier.

Durango is beautiful I lived in Cortez for a couple of years on my grandparents ranch it was awesome we used to go to Durango fishing in elk hunting awesome very good part of my life

Just moved away from Durango. It was a beautiful little town,friendly,slow paced perfect. Then all of a sudden change, people visit and change our ways to a big city feeling and attitudes not friendly. Too bad and sad.

My wife and I are originally from the Ozarks of Missouri but moved to just south of Albuquerque last summer. We are planning on moving to Durango in 2026. We are really missing the mountains and the outdoors but want to keep relatively mild winters. We live in a tiny house on wheels and there are 3 Tiny House communities in Durango so there are a few options for us.

Are Durango Wells on ranches ( for sale) contaminated by mine tailings, etc? After the Animas River Gold King Mine spill by the EPA, is the water truly tested by a reliable source ( not Gov!) to guarantee safety? I really want to move there. Water is a huge very important issue!

A few things I'm curious to know,; is Durango a floodplain, being next to the Animas River, how is Water availability projected for the future, and the water quality in the area? Are private well water rights on agricultural ( farms/ ranch properties) being confiscated by gov? As a retired mountain real estate broker, you are doing a great service here! This is fantastic info!

wow !!! A Great Real estate Ad !!! Dont forget the water Quality is bad, because of old mine runoffs , that has poisoned, the rivers and streams.. and we are in a decades old drought, and have wildfires that smokeout the whole area , for hundreds of miles. We also have horrendous traffic , and high dollar rentals and property . Make sure you check out the taxes on properties. I would say that Durango is ALOT like Coeur d'Alene Id and Bend, Or. just to name a few, that were once special, but , now , look like anytown USA.

Before you even think of moving to any place, first rent an Airbnb rental for 3 months to get a feeling of what it will feel like living in that area. Rent in the spring or the fall, not in the summer when it is the best/warmest, and not in the winter when it is the worst/coldest.
