      Thanks for sharing that. “premier Yarns”… I got wool given to me from a friend and I do think she may have purchased it when she was in the US. I’m in Ontario, Canada, about 2 hours north of the Niagara Falls border. Sometimes I go to Buffalo area (Cheektowaga) and visit Hobby Lobby. In order to buy things and bring them home we need to stay overnight. That gives me a budget of $200 in purchases, if I wanted that much. I’ve been to Joann’s as well but so far like Hobby Lobby. My most recent trip there in the Fall I noticed the wool department seemed to be scaling back a little. Enjoy your weekend!

My friend gave me one when I was knitting a sock. When I was all done, I asked him why I used a stitch marker? It was knit into the sock, many rows down. He said "you're supposed to move it every row!" It was so funny to me I left it in there.

      Hey, welcome from Waterloo. My Bachelor of Arts and Social work degrees (2 of those) are from Waterloo. I went on to do my Masters from the US. I was a late bloomer, started my schooling when I was 38, as a single parent. Waterloo wrote an article about me studying, and so on, and how I had lunch with Oprah. I was on one of her shows, not in the audience, actually a guest. I’m retired now 5 years. I started knitting after an operation. I was recuperating and a friend brought in some wash cloths (knitted). I said to myself, I can make these… In the past year I’ve set a goal to expand my knitting skills. I knit just about every day and enjoy it a lot. The Ranunculus was a lot of fun. Being an “analyzer” by nature, I was trying to figure out why I liked it so much. Here is my summary, it’s easy to follow, is a versatile pattern, lots to keep one’s interest (almost every row is different until you get to the body). I like knitting it up in cotton and have a few done in Purl SoHo’s Picnic Cotton. I order it up from the states. I found that if my order was $50 or less that I wouldn’t get charged duty on the package. I like your suggestion of the Drops Halo tee. I’m going to look that up. Cheers!

    I am enjoying watching your video. I want to learn better how to knit a hat without a pattern, and you have given me a better idea of the length I need to go for. I love knitting hats. I am in Indiana. I was the 1st in my family born in the US. My parents and older siblings were from Hagersville, Ontario. My ancestors came from Germany, settled in New Jersey and then came to Canada in 1790. The hat I knit and am wearing in the picture is called a “Roots” hat. Roots is a Canadian company. A bit of trivia on the Roots stores… “In 1973, 2 friends launched the company inspired by Canada's wilderness. They met at a summer camp in Ontario's Algonquin Park. Since that time, the Roots logo has made its way around the world. Today, Roots operates more than 200 stores in Canada and abroad, and it ships to more than 70 countries. They sell leather purses, shoes, accessories, clothing, and winter hats… It’s a well respected name in Canada. Happy Knitting.

    • @Yarntalesandthreads
      @Yarntalesandthreads 18 днів тому

      I have knit a fair isle hat. The thing you have to remember is when you’re working with two strands of different color, alternating for the pattern, it does tend to pull the work in, makes it a bit tighter and so you need to make allowances for that. I’ve knit a ribbed band and then when I get tot the body of the work I increase about 8-10 stitches, which when blocked the hat will stretch in the colorwork area about an inch. I should do a video about that. I was thinking of doing it anyway. So the thing is, you don’t have to have a kit or a pattern. If you can read a chart, for example I have a chart for mittens, it’s possible to figure out the repeat pattern of the chart, let’s say every 10 stitches, and then if you have 90 stitches on your needle you can repeat the pattern 9 times. Even if you miscalculate you can repeat the pattern and end it at your beginning point. Okay, that’s it…lol… I’ll cast on a fair isle hat this week and work on videoing my progress for another video to upload. I love it when viewers like yourself give me ideas.

    Lovely knitting, Sue. I think it'd be nice with or without a trim, but I do like the idea of white. 👍 🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘

      Thanks for your comments. With all the business of the holidays it’s taking me a bit to get to my comments and reply to them, so thanks for being patient. Hope you’re looking forward to the new year. Cheers.

    What size needles are you using? 5 and 7? Is that mm or us sizes. Why is the dec section on bigger needles? I love your hat and I want to try to make one!

      Hi there, thanks for your comments. Sorry I’m just getting around to responding now. I use US6 & US 7 needles and worsted weight wool. You asked why my decreasing section is on bigger needles. I am just in the habit of using US #7. Whatever needle size you use for the body of the work, you continue your decreasing in that same size needle. I will be posting more hats. My husband purchased a hat kit for me for Christmas. It’s called a “Roots” hat and Roots is a Canadian name in great products like clothing, handbags, wallets etc, and knitted wool hats. Thanks for your message. Hope you’re enjoying the holidays.

    Thank you. I also enjoyed seeing you wear the charming dickie or neck warmer as I think they are called these days.

      Thanks for your comments. You’re right I’m not sure what they call them Dickie or neck warmers or maybe they use both terms and I think there’s some other terms that are used as well. Either way we know what they are for, don’t we. Hope you’re looking forward to the New Year and that it’s good to you. Cheers.

      Me too, love Prym needles. I just purchased a 4mm 16” steel Prym through Amazon. I needed that size. I was a little concerned about buying a steel needle since most of my Prym are the Ergonomic needles, but this 16” 4mm Prym is great. Just like all their other products. Cheers!
