RAM Mounts X-Grip Test - Will It Hold My Phone Tight Enough?
Переглядів 1,7 тис.6 років тому
Graeme from Hurtle Gear tests the RAM Mounts UN7U X-Grip to see how strong it is when holding a phone. NOTE: RAM Mounts DO recommend using the included tether in rough or "open cockpit" scenarios. This is just a demonstration only of the holding power of the X-Grip, and is in no way a guarantee. In other words, Graeme is being a bit of a dill... Thanks for your help! I just managed to mount the tail tidy on my 2016 MT-07 and couldn't be happier
Can help you create more profits, because we have motorcycle TPMS, Bluetooth headset and other products
Thank you for this video, i was able to install this on my '22 mt07
so easy you coulda shown us the rear install as well as it's slightly different!
Does it have any gaps between the tail light or any other gaps
No gaps. Can't attach photos here but if you'd like to contact us directly we can send you some if that helps.
lmao. So glad I found this
😂😂😂
Need more cable ties
Hey there! I’ve got the same kit but I’m stuck on connecting the number plate light.. what did you do to connect those two pins it came with?
Hmmm, two problems here. 1) it's been so long since I did this install I can't remember exactly and 2) I believe the kit has been updated since then and it now has new connectors. I think when I installed mine it was literally just cutting wires and winding them together then covering with electrical tape, but I think the kit has pins now? The instructions here may help: evotech-instructions.s3.eu-west-2.amazonaws.com/instructions/011905+yamaha+mt-07+tail+tidy+instructions.pdf or failing that I would probably contact Evotech Performance direct for the latest advice. Good luck!
Just picked up this tail tidy for my 2020. The kit now includes an adapter for the license plate light so no need to wire in the bullet connectors 👍
We cannot see where you put the adhesive strips newb :P
The kit has been updated and now has rubber bungs instead of foam strips, you can see the updated instructions at evotech-instructions.s3.eu-west-2.amazonaws.com/instructions/011714+yamaha+mt07+rad+guard+instructions+new+rubber+bungs.pdf. However if you still have an old kit with the strips, they go at the top and bottom of the radiator and just act as a buffer between the radiator and the guard
Does it fit with the yamaha radiator side covers? The website i got it off doesn't say, but your website DOES make a note that it isnt compatible. Ive also read on some forums that it fit perfect with the side covers
It depends what you mean by "side covers" as people interpret it differently. The MT-07 already comes with side panels on the radiator, those are fine. But if you install the Yahama side cover guards (additional product) then it won't fit. Hope that makes sense!
Just installed. Are they supposed to spin once tightened?
Hey there! Yes they are, it's designed that way so if you're sliding along the road they are rotating instead of skidding, to help reduce impact on the components etc.
@@hurtlegearau Good to know. Thank you sir for your reply. Much appreciated.
I've used these in my car and had the phone fly out while driving, there is no way in hell that I would trust one on a street bike, let alone offroad.
Hey Peter, very strange indeed, sounds like you may have not had the right size X-grip or the phone wasn't in there properly?
@@hurtlegearau The phone (note 10+) fits in there quite well but the rubber stoppers can work their way off of the metal posts which ejects the phone quite spectacularly. It's only happened a couple of times but it's enough for me to not trust them on a bike where the vibration would accelerate the process.
@@Slapfunk79 Ah yes, the X-Grip should come with glue to secure the rubber grips on if that ever starts to happen
@@hurtlegearau Mine didn't arrive with any glue or instructions stating that they needed glueing down.
Yamaha ruined the tail on the 2018 MT07. I dint even realize until I bought the bike. They should have it the way it was. Looks really good.
I really love the old tail lights. I have the 2018 mt07 and I’m not a big fan of the latest one.
I use mine to hold my spare hand
Make it in 20 sec !
Hey mate, just wondering how you installed the red reflector beneath the number plate? my number plate has no holes for it to be mounted.
Hey there! The kit should come with an angled bracket and double sided 3M tape. So the reflector attaches to the bracket, and the bracket attaches to the bottom of the plate, using the 3M tape.
Hi hurtle gear, is it safe to unscrew these bolts without any support holding the engine in place? Does it shift at all with one screw out? Thanks in advance!
Hey there! VERY IMPORTANT to always leave one bolt screwed in! But you don't need anything else to support the engine while you do this, the other bolt staying in place is enough. No movement or shifting with one bolt out. Hope that helps!

hey i really like the mt-09 plate older but i have mt-07 - 2018 can i install mt-09 stile plate holder on mt-07?? thank you
Hi David, no unfortunately the MT-09 one is definitely different, and won't fit the MT-07, sorry.
once the phone is installed, what makes the phone not pivot back and forth?
Hey Mike, although you can pivot the holder left and right a little with your hand, it doesn't move at all when riding, the spring mechanism and tension keeps it in place. Cheers
What type of material is the black thing made of ?
Hey there. Do you mean the bobbin heads? They are Delrin
Is it the same process for the tracer 700 version?
Hi Martin, not sure why UA-cam didn't notify us of your comment so I'm guessing a year later you've worked it out by now... But yes, the XSR700 uses the same guard.
How do you keep the phone from rotating a few degrees while on the x grip mount? I've installed the mount, and when the phone is in there is a good half inch of play where the phone will go from vertical to slightly askew in one direction. Is there a lock that I'm missing?
Hey Bryan, due to the design of the X-Grip, there may be some play/movement left over if you have a thinner phone. But it shouldn't move on it's own, only if you force it. If you're finding the phone is moving on it's own then that isn't right, and you should contact the retailer you bought it off for further assistance.
Mine does too. It'll swivel 45 degrees on its own. Makes it almost unusable. The other one in the shop does too, so it's a design fault.
Hi I purchased this for my 2018 MT07. Would you know if it would fit alright?
Yep, will definitely fit the 2018 model too.
@@hurtlegearau thanks. Love your videos I always use them as reference. Torque measures for bolts are really helpful. Ever consider doing an aftermarket exhaust installation? Cheers!
Thanks, I really thought there was more to it...cheers
Hi Hurtle Gear would you know if I used an evo tech crash bobbin how tight it should be?
Hi Marvin, they use the same system, with the new Evotech Performance bolts replacing the existing OEM bolts. Therefore they should be tightened to 75Nm. Cheers, Graeme
Not one clip of that video was from this action camera...?
I've been looking for a quality camera to capture my rides and I think I've found it.
I am from Spain I am subscribed to his channel and I follow him in all the sites, a and very good video.
I just bought this and it came with nothing but the grill.. Should I put some weather stripping or not?
Hi Tim, you definitely should have got some bungs and other pieces that will help a lot. I would suggest you contact the retailer you purchased it from, or Evotech Performance directly, and they should be able to get you the missing parts.
Hey, what was the fluid you used? Or for what is it? (I'm german so I did not understand for what purpose it is used)
Hi there, the fluid is just "thread lock" (medium strength) to stop the second spacer from coming loose.
Hurtle Gear oh okay I understand... thank you!
owhh my god mt-07 so cool but in my country indonesian mt-07 is not for sale now 😭😭😭
you related to Buk Lau?

NOTE: This video was shot with the previous version of the kit, which had a neoprene foam strip. This has now been replaced with rubber bungs.
Good video but at the start it seemed as though you really didn't want to do it.
Haha, true! I must have been tired that day... in fact I think I did have a big headache!
There is just one thing wrong with this license plate holder. The 2 new pressure pins they provided do not connect well in the bodywork. And the manual doesn't say anything about attaching the reflector.
You paid 70 Euro for a $3 piece of mesh? well done.
I think there's a little more to it than that Frank. We're talking about aircraft-grade aluminium that will stop a lot more than mesh. But thanks for the feedback.
Saved my bacon...thanks heaps. had the RandG to install.
Hi Graeme! I checked at the mt-07's service manual that the mounting bolt must be tighten at 75 Nm. Is there a reason to tighten it at 55Nm instead of 75Nm??
Hi Miguel. Interesting, when I check the MT-07 forums everyone says the engine bolts are supposed to be tightened to 55Nm, and there's no reference in my service manual. Have you got a link or anything we can take a look at, that shows 75Nm?
I found this web where they have the service manual uploaded! Page 274 bolt number 12 www.manualslib.com/manual/1056405/Yamaha-2014-Mt-07.html?page=274#manual
Thanks Miguel, great spotting, you are correct! It should be 75Nm (I was referencing the upper engine bolt by mistake). I will update this video now and repost it. Thanks for the feedback
Thanks to you for your great videos! They are very helpful :)
@@migueldavidbotiafernandez9016 really nice input, thank you from a swiss mt-07 driver
I'm finding that folks that mount horizontally that the tether is especially helpful in more securely holding the phone as it wraps around the corners of the device. Something that was brought up was, that when you hit a bump, there's a chance of the spring jaws opening up just enough to make it easier for the phone to slip out. I suggest the use of the tether no matter what position.
Thanks for the feedback! We've sold hundreds (thousands maybe?) of the X-Grips and never heard of a phone coming out but we agree with you, better to be safe than sorry and use the tether if in any doubt
