Franklin Cotton Factory and Foundry
The Franklin Cotton Factory was established by Dyer Pearl, Thomas Parks and Joseph Campbell in 1825 as a site for production of Cotten and woolen goods.
The factory contained the first steam powered loom in the state of Tennessee and by 1850 the operation had grown to include an adjacent iron foundry and employed 47 workers.
Both the factory and foundry were destroyed in 1862 during the civil war by union troops under the command of Brigadier General David Stanley.
The remains of the factory and foundry now sits on the outskirts of historic downtown Franklin on 1st Avenue South.
