    I have a 5 piece Yamaha Cranberry Red Stage Custom Birch set. The set has some resonance but attack is very precise in which I like. I have Evans Hydraulics on the toms, Evans EMAD 2 on the kick, Evans UV 1 on the snare. I am currently repairing a Pearl Masters 14x5.5 Maple Snare, I got it from a former church I used to play at and never got around to putting it back together. I’m interested in what the differences will be! Heads are Evans Hazy 300 snare side, Puresound 30 stand wires, Evans EC Reverse Dot

    All I know is, making "the fundamentals" a regular part of my practice routine has saved me on more than one occasion. A while back, I got my part assignments for an orchestra concert with the first rehearsal a few days away; I was assigned the snare drum part in "Capriccio Espagnol." Fourth movement starts out with a snare drum roll, first behind a brass fanfare, and then quietly behind a violin cadenza. Only lasts about a minute and change, which doesn't sound like much until you try to play a roll that long with a consistent sound and no "bumps" - particularly at the quietest dynamic markings Fortunately, I had been practicing that sort of thing for ages. If I hadn't been on the task already - if I had to get that aspect of my playing together in two days? - there's no way I could have gotten my roll in shape on such short notice.

    • @KirksDrumRoom
      @KirksDrumRoom Місяць тому

      Exactly! I've experienced the same thing. I find it funny how the entire solo/piece is more important to people than fixing the problem spots. And again, I had that same attitude as a kid. 😂

    Don't make a special order to H&B. I've been waiting 3 years for a combo case to arrive. I've used H&B since 1974, but now I'm thinking there are too many other newer offerings around for me to screw with them anymore. BTW SKB staps suck. I rotate between 3-5 kits -- I used a lot of hard cases. I'll check out this interesting looking video after I'm done writing ANOTHER letter to H&B -- W-T-F is my case!?!

    Maybe it's Me... I think the sound is very washy - not tight enough , too much Over ringing for my taste. You are right about the strainer on the snare wires. Please define what yu mean by 'Tight" on the snare side head. I often hear to make them Table Top Tight? You ask what is the hardest Thing about Tuning Snare drums....In my perspective - Everything LOL> As a 72 YO, Player of Drums, who resurrected playing in 2019 after 50 Years [1969], I have become much more engaged into the instrument - learning more about different Drum heads , and Drum Tuning. Tuning is an art that takes lots of practice to Master.

    • @KirksDrumRoom
      @KirksDrumRoom Місяць тому

      You nailed it about taste. Everyone has a different thing they want to hear. And I feel no one is wrong with what they like sound wise. It's a very personal thing. As for "tight", yes you always hear about "Table Top Tight". I personally like it tight enough so that it's just hard to push down in the middle of the head. I feel it gives the snares what they need to work appropriately. That said, I've also used a snare with a much looser resonant head for a very sloppy sound when I was asked. It wasn't my preferred sound. But it was the correct sound for the situation. Many congrats that you are playing again! I hope you're finding great joy in it.

And maybe that's not even a legitimate excuse, but I'm stubborn. 😂 But the tunebot is a great tool! As for Mapex, I wasn't really even considering them when I was looking for a new kit. If I could be an artist for any company, I'd choose Sabian cymbals and Vic Firth sticks/mallets. For heads, I lean towards Evans generally but I have a few Remo heads on some of my drums as well so that's a hard choice. Drums is the hardest choice for me personally as I believe every company really makes awesome stuff, and everyone has something truly unique to offer. But I've owned Gretsch and Yamaha drums for years and would most likely choose either of those two based on experience with the gear and meeting some of the people at PASIC events.

      Hi Garrison. This video is actually cut from my current long video on tuning a bass drum. I'm trying out Shorts as a link to the long form video. I'm looking to see who uses the link in the description. Hopefully it'll be more right than wrong. Thanks for reaching out with the suggestion. I appreciate when people take the time to help.

      Many thanks! It's been hard to get videos done recently because of school. But I'm hoping to remedy that.

      Many thanks! The solo idea is in the queue. Probably going to be a summer topic. 👍🏻

    Ps. The low pro+ sounds better than the reserve max+

    Shipping update 😂 I ordered 3 more pads. Two of them came within 3/4 weeks. The first one I ordered is still on its way (they said they were waiting on clear rims) at least I didn't get completely "XYMOX'ED" 😂😂😂

    I'm glad someone finally said it. You do have your difference in low end and high end kits but the material plays the smallest affect on the sound

      That's how I see it. Plus, sound guys/studio guys will alter what everyone else hears anyway. LOL

    Love the way they sound, but the "carbon fiber" laminate....come on!!! It's a PICTURE of carbon fiber!!! 😂😂😂 I was SO disappointed about that. Why'd they stop using the 3D laminates???

    Great review! So xymox is still under the same ownership. However they only sell what they have in stock hence the faster shipping.
