Creating Water Drop Patterns in Vectric Aspire V12
Переглядів 4813 місяці тому
In this companion video to our main Water Drop Door video, we go over the design of the pattern for the door using Vectric Aspire to create the pattern and toolpaths. We carefully digitized actual water drop ripples to come up with the shape of the ripples. They’re not just sine waves! Learn some Aspire tricks, and check out the new V12 of Aspire! Building The Water Drop Door!
Переглядів 24 тис.3 місяці тому
Join us as we glue up a beautiful walnut door, carve an interesting water drop pattern into the door and, create a handle, then hang the door using the Milcasa Magic 2 sliding door mounting system. We glued up a door-sized panel of 1.5” walnut which we bought from our local supplier, KJP Hardwood. (kjpselecthardwoods.com/) To make the door more interesting we digitized some actual water drop pa...
We Build and Burn a Jimi Hendrix Guitar!
Переглядів 5686 місяців тому
We build a copy of the guitar Jimi Hendrix used at the Monterey Jazz Festival in 1969. Starting with a guitar kit, we use photos taken at the festival to replicate the design on the original guitar. And then, like Jimi did, we set the guitar on fire!!! And then, we turn the guitar into a pretty unique toilet paper holder! VORONOI EVOLUTION: Art. Made. Awesome.
Переглядів 9507 місяців тому
Join us as we build the Voronoi Evolution project! This project is a series of 12 pieces inspired by the patterns on dragonfly wings and on giraffe’s fur! The pattern, called a Voronoi Tessellation, was first characterized by Georgy Voronoy in the early 1900’s, but was mentioned by Descartes and others as early as 1644. I created the original designs using RhinoCAD and Grasshopper, then arduous...

    “I made a door!” And a hell of a door it is! That’s a funky design on it, and the hardware is something else. I’m surprised that it can hold the weight of that heavy door in the one corner when it’s closed. Good job!

    I love the design idea and how it turned out, but I don't think it suits the colour of the room. To me I would want to use something that special as a front door.

    To be a little critical, I don't care for the grain mismatch of the board on the left. I would have turned it around so that the light part is on the edge, and not interfering with the main water drop. It's just too noisy. Sorry.

      Hi! Actually I agree with you. We only had that one board at the time, and the other side of it had a similar disfigurement. Couldn’t flip it. Next time we’ll have more slabs to choose from! Thanks for checking us out!

      Just went back to the thumbnail and it’s clearly visible there. Mate, I’d just own it - it was a bad decision. Nothing wrong with making a few mistakes here or there. We all do it. But own it

    2080 extrusions aren't very stiff. Torsion forces when the spindle is in the middle of the gantry will still cause chatter in harder materials. Put a dial indicator on the spindle shaft that's lowered all the way and push the stepper motor at the top, you'll immediately see what I mean. Add a steel square tube to the gantry back and side plates. That should stiffen it up sufficiently.

    • @loen.design
      @loen.design 3 місяці тому

      Thanks! Excellent advice. We are using thick wall extrusions and have some at 90 degrees for extra stiffness. But, we are still seeing the shaking, so we will try your suggestions!

    • @loen.design
      @loen.design 3 місяці тому

      Yah. I get that. It wasn’t really necessary in this case but it does enrich the colour and increase the protection. Blacktail Studio has a video about how to apply the second coat. Some prep is required and you have to wait a week or more between coats. “Monoish” eh.
