We sat down, and with her permission, I recorded our visit and we're sharing it with you. Dr. Marian wrote a book for us. It's based on 30 y...

    This video was great to watch! The first part helped me feel like what some ENL students may feel sitting in class. The second part helped reinforce how important visuals, realia, wait time, non verbal cues, modeling, slowed and repeated speech is. I was able to understand your directions much better in part 2.

    This was so amazing! I loved the chunking of information, wait time given, and use of visuals/manipulatives to help develop a deeper understanding.

    I love this video and it really drives home the point that teachers need to slow down and how important visuals are.

    I LOVE this video! As a teacher we are told to slow down, include visuals, and increase wait time, but this truly shows the difference doing this and adding comprehensible input actually makes in a lesson! If I was a student receiving instructions without comprehensible input, I could see myself checking out and asking a friend for help when it was time to complete the task. using comprehensible input allows students to be involved in all parts of a lesson!

    I was very aware of what I needed to do when the teacher showed me, and spoke slowly with repetition. She was able to provide the directions in a clear way, even though I didn’t know the language she was speaking. I was able to follow her lead. When she directed me the first time…with no context…I had no idea what to do. It was very eye opening to have this video presentation. Her hand motions for hello were very clear. As well as her showing the paper, and the scissors. This was all I needed in order to understand her message.

    I was very confused as to what was being said on the video. I did not know the teacher on the video was giving directions. It was much easier to understand what she was asking when she was pointing, going much slower, and repeating herself. The nonverbal cues were also very welcoming and made me want to try and listen and understand what was going on.

    It was much easier to understand the lesson when she used the visuals. It's a great way model the lesson for ELL students. Seeing a lesson presented this way was so helpful to understand how I can reinforce comprehension of a skill for students;

    These two videos paired side-by-side are so impactful. The first one really put me in the shoes of someone sitting in a classroom not able to understand the language spoken. The second video showed that through visual cues, slower language, prompting, modeling, and positive reinforcement, I could understand! It is all about the delivery!

    I can use this idea in my 9th-grade classroom to help students build paragraphs for a prewriting exercise. The Cooperative Strip Paragraph would be a model the students can follow to write an independent paragraph about the shared experience.

    What a great way to understand how our ENL students feel! It was so helpful to see all the different means you used to make the lesson comprehensible. I noticed the repetition and the slower pace. I agree that all students can benefit from using these methods. Modelling was so helpful so that students could see and follow along. Reinforcing the skill with positivity and a smiling face also added to the lesson and to the learning!

    This was so helpful! It was amazing to see the difference between teaching styles 1 & 2. This video really puts into perspective how important and impactful comprehensible input can have on student learning. I found it very helpful when you pointed to what you were referring to and repeated the word or direction several times in addition to the demonstration. This made your directions very easy to follow.

    I don't find this video convincing. It certainly demonstrates that Comprehensible Input is more comprehensible than other input, but that's self-evident. The issue is whether CI contributes better to language acquisition than other input. I believe that it does, but this video does nothing to prove that.

      What do you think should have been donr differently? And was that the actual purpose of the video? I found this video helpful and I also think that ot demonstrated some useful strategies that could help not to convince us (of which we're already convinced) that the strategies help. Less theory and more practical. Good job teacher.
