issued in the UK in January 1930
two great sides..
not rare at all.. was a big seller.. and was on catalogue for years.. and that copy is from the mid 1950's.. sounds like its playing a tad slow too
think i'm more familiar with the Billy Cotton version.. tho as far as i know... the GM version was the bigger hit
till the end of time was a massive seller in the US for Perry Como in 1945... released in 1946 in the UK.. was only a moderate seller
the treasure of sierra madre is a fabulous song..great vocal by Buddy Clark.. who sadly died in a plane crash in 1949.. this was a minor hit in the US in 1948.. i have a US copy
was a big seller in the UK mid 1950... princess margaret became a bit of a fan of her
two classic early bing sides..both originally released in 1931/32 in the UK.. this coupling stems from 1936..
Hoagie Carmichael wrote this tune the lyrics written by Mitchell Parrish/ Hoagy was coming home from a fraternity party and stopped by a book store called the Book Nook. There was an upright piano in the back room. He banged on door and the proprietor, a pianist, opened the back door. He sat down at the piano and wrote the tune on manuscript paper sold by the book store. The sheet music sold well. Hoagie had moved to Florida but moved back. I met a man who was the town drunk of Gosport, Indiana. He was rich and the two of them had traveled together for years. They had been classmates at Indiana University.

.................so maybe the band did play this on the "Titanic".
@@oldelephantstew On balance, I’m inclined to think not. The song was first heard in the UK when it featured in a revue called “Everybody’s Doing It”, which opened at the Empire Theatre on 14 February 1912. The first recordings of it were made the following month but may have only just been issued (or not) by the time the Titanic set sail, meaning that the song would not yet have seeped into the general public’s consciousness, in those pre-radio days. It was certainly not on the White Star Line’s ships orchestras’ repertoire list, though another of Irving Berlin’s numbers, “Alexander’s Ragtime Band” was, and there are survivor’s accounts of that being played on the fateful night.
He sounds a lot like Bing Crosby.

It sounds like the original could be a nice recording.... unfortunately we can't really hear it the way it was meant to be heard this way .... this is an electrical recording from 1931.... that acoustic pre World War I phonograph was hopelessly outdated in 1931...
