A Wet Winter's Eve'n' (A Slow Blue's Groove Vibe)
A Mike DeSorda Original
The song's inspiration came from a poem I wrote when I was about 20 as a way to express myself to myself when my heart was utterly broken. I found it several months ago in a box of my memorabilia and decided it was time to put it to song.
Thank yous and credits go out to my two music mentors, Adam Haar and Clyde Score. Adam played the guitar and did the vocals and most the final production and master. Clyde contributed to the lyrics and the music and played harmonica. I conceived and wrote the song and contributed to the production and master.

Enjoy watching my local luthier, Sean, swap out the cheap ceramic pickups, that sound thin, and tinny, and shallow, with nice new Fender brand vintage noiseless pickups made with AlNiCo 2 magnets. Man, what a difference!

A Mike DeSorda original All instruments mixed and mastered. Next will be laying my vocals over it. That will be a challenge since I don't sing well, but one of my local music mentors is going to coach me through it. I expect dozens of takes, lol, to get something even minimally ok. We'll see.

As I was heading into the final stretch with my sights on my final upgrade, swapping out my pickups, darn if my local luthier didn't notice that that the guitar's neck had a slight but significant back bow. Watch this video learn what he decided to do in order to at least make it minimally playable without having to change the entire neck.

This is a bit of a redo of the original video with this tune. The primary difference is that I added a female voice harmonizing at certain phrases in the song. If you did not watch the original posted video on this channel, the theme of this tune is very personal. It's about a man who had a big dream but his dream went crashing down due to his own doing. That man was my father who dreamed about...

For unknown reasons, the concept for this little silly simple tune was nagging me and trapped in my brain this past week, so to get this monkey off my back I finally sat down and pounded out some lyrics, chords, and melody, and next thing you know, hum, well, here it is. Nothing to get excited about and unsure it has potential for a full blown song, but will let nature take its course.

This is an original song of mine I conceived and in the middle of writing, but collaborating with one of my guitar teachers to refine it. This video is just our first try from the top to about 75% through just to test the waters and we think it has promise once we finish it and produce it for real. I do think my guitar teacher's guitar is a bit out of tune and I know I hit a couple wrong chords...

    You need to use the double thumb technique so when you are picking the thumb alternates on the 6th string and the 4th string generally. That combination will vary slightly depending on which chord you are playing. Keep it up, you will get there. I taught myself the picking off a Joan Baez record in the 60's. I turned the record player down to 16 so I could clearly hear the notes. Took me forever as there were no books out at that time that showed the picking sequence either my the musical staff or by tablature. The sequence is a total of 6 notes with an extra note between the first note and the 6th note. This will all make sense when you get farther along. I belived there are some youtube videos that show how to do the picking. Good luck

    I have the Squier Affinity Series FSR Telecaster Electric Guitar, Lake Placid Blue, Maple Fingerboard 250.00 USD ,or something, & the cheaper version is like 199.00 ,but it isn't string though the body hence maybe cheaper? I dunno . Anyway it is true in my opinion that which ever one we buy, it's best to change out the pickups ....the stock pick ups in my opinion sound OK, but nothing impressive. There are higher end models in the series that come with the AlNiCos in that 450.00 USD price range..

      Thanks for your comment, Mr. Phats. We obviously agree. Though the cheap pickups that came with my guitar, in isolation, were ok, clearly they were just that, just ok. There was an amazing difference when I put in decent pickups, to be sure. Take care!

    • @MikesMusicCorner11
      @MikesMusicCorner11 Місяць тому

      Unsure, my guitar tech just found mine that way. My guess is buy guitars with good quality reputations; don't overdo your truss rod; have a neck with a two-way truss rod so you can add or take away relief. I'm not the right person to ask. But, hope this helps.

    • @MikesMusicCorner11
      @MikesMusicCorner11 2 місяці тому

      Thanks for the remark and your perspective. This whole bone vs tusq is quite interesting. Actually, if my luthier, Sean, had his way he would have preferred bone, just like you. His perspective, and doubt he's alone, is that he likes bone for the tone and because he can make it look almost like jewelry, but since it's a natural material apparently can get inconsistent tones from all six strings; however, though perhaps the tone and the looks (let's face it, it still looks like plastic) are not as good with tusq, since it's a manmade material, it's very consistent from string to string. Anyway, this is my understanding of the comparisons; I'm sure it's probably more complicated that this. Thank again!

    I've never had to do this myself, but what I've seen people do is fill the original holes with dowels and glue, or even toothpicks. Then for locating the new pins there are inexpensive templates you can buy that will make it easy to get them in the correct place.

    You mentioned some of the video was lost some but where you picked up was still very interesting. As a novice player (still struggling on scales), it was enlightening to see you make these mods, I never thought about all that goes into making it work. The audio and lighting was good. I also appreciated that there wasn't a ton of hand jesters, made the video less distracting. You seemed really relieved at the end and finally cracked a smile! HA HA! :D
