How to Generate Effortless Power on the Tennis Serve
How To Generate Effortless Power On The Tennis Serve
In this video we discuss the importance of using your lower body to create proper alignment, racket head speed and ultimately power. Many coaches will argue the difference between pushing your front hip out versus loading into your back leg. If serving in platform (feet apart) I believe that back leg load is what leads to better loading in the legs and shoulder over shoulder movement throughout the serve. If serving in pinpoint (feet together) I can see how it might be beneficial to use your momentum, push your hip out then transfer your weight up and forward. Regardless the goal will always be to create the most optimal trophy position prior to hitting the ball. It's my hope that although the video is short that you were able to see how we progress from the feeling of proper alignment and loading into proper striking. If you have any questions don't hesitate to reach out and contact us through the link below! Go hit some serves!

    Putting balls in the court works if your ball is heavy enough that it cannot be attacked. If you can master the neutral point tennis then grinding can surely work.

    Wow - interesting! So, Roger shows us the forehand IS ACTUALLY played from "low to high"! Sure, he takes it back high, but then drops it, slows down and THEN accelerates up and through the ball. Brilliant.

      That’s a great break down. Something I’ve noticed lately is that he doesn’t get as under the ball as other people. His acceleration is accentuated right before he swings forward and his smoothness makes it looks so easy

    I feel you here, I really do, and it's good advice....However, Grigor is at BEST only 50% in control of this point. It's probably more like 40% (at cross court recovery), but he does a fantastic job of converting to 90%, and then the winner. It's a high IQ scramble after Jannik's wide cross. Thanks and peace 👍🏻👍🏻

    What better racket face for hit the moonball

    • @premierperformanceinstitute
      @premierperformanceinstitute 7 місяців тому

      An open racket face is best for moon ball. You can also achieve it with a neutral racket face and a steep strike angle

    Coming to the net in the modern game of tennis can be CHALLENGING! Knowing where to approach and how to position yourself is SO IMPORTANT! Deciding between a short slice or a deep slice depends a lot on where your opponent is before you play the slice. If your opponent is running from the opposite corner approaching short forces them to lift the pass and cover the most ground but if your opponent is near the middle of the court, playing deep forces them back and opens up a short volley cross court for you. Everything in tennis is situational. I encourage you to experiment with different approaches in your own game and see what the results are. I have always found low short slices to be very effective regardless of where my opponent is. Mostly because of the confidence I have in my slice but also because of how uncomfortable it makes the 1st passing shot for my opponents. Our goal should be to make the first volley as easy as possible, slicing short on my approach has allowed this to be true for me. I’d love to know what has been effective for you…

    You can have full extension with Western. Let's also not forget Djokovic hits with a bent arm. This video is dumb on all accounts.

    • @premierperformanceinstitute
      @premierperformanceinstitute 9 місяців тому

      Hitting in full extension with a western grip forehand is extremely uncommon as biomechanically it’s very uncomfortable. I teach and believe in straight arm forehands like Federer as I believe it provides greater leverage. I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts!

      Pinpoint is when you bring your back foot forward till your feet are together before serving. Platform is no movement of the feet until jumping to hit the serve

    Good mechanics can keep you out of a jam, but they won't win you anything if they're not being executed by a brain that's trained to win.

    • @premierperformanceinstitute
      @premierperformanceinstitute 10 місяців тому

      Very well said. I would argue however that poor mechanics are a worse alternative to great mechanics. I’d rather have great mechanics and develop the tennis IQ instead of having poor mechanics and tennis IQ. The way I see it is good mechanics will prevail as the athlete develops even if it means losing in the short term

    • @premierperformanceinstitute
      @premierperformanceinstitute 11 місяців тому

      Most definitely. The important thing to remember is that target is always more important than power. At it's very basic level tennis is about getting the ball over the net and inside the lines. Increasing the amount of power can often lead to a lack of control and an increase in unforced errors. Both of which are very bad for winning lol

    So here i was thinking spin could too like in ping pong, though ive never played tennis.

    • @premierperformanceinstitute
      @premierperformanceinstitute 11 місяців тому

      Spin could definitely impact where the ball goes but in this video I wanted to focus primarily on how you swing/what the racket face position is at contact. Those largely determine where the ball goes at a beginner to intermediate level
