    21:36 - 21:46 This. This right here. I laughed heartily when watching this bit. I'm in complete agreement that Silco was not a good fucking father. At all. In the slightest. He turned her hatred into a tool for his own agenda. How can anyone think this is a good trait in a fatherly figure? Preach it some more, Dr. Evil. HOW 'BOUT NO !

    I don’t think the dolls were twisted trophies but physical embodiments of the voices in her head. Claggor said so little to her, so in he’s depicted as a small doll due to his small impact on her and her emotions. Milo however, still has the same impact on her emotions as he did when he was alive. Making him more life-size in her mind, constantly looming and constantly bringing her down. The stuffy was a symbol of Vi’s love and her symbol of her childhood. Since Vi was still alive, she didn’t need a new body. As for Vander, she kept his gauntlets. Probably the most impactful part of him to Powder. Since he didn’t share much of a fatherly bond with her. He was more a protector. (But maybe she didn’t make a Vander a body because she knew that he was in Singe’s basement). So yeah. During the last episode when she said “some things never stay dead” this is at least my understanding of what she meant.

    I strongly disagree with the idea that Silco molded Jinx into a tool. That completely dismisses her interests that were already displayed in Act One. Jinx already wanted to build bombs and weapons that would have started working at some point without Silco kidnapping Vander. We never see him make her create anything against her will and he doesn't even really see her as an employee. Silco just got lucky that he happened to take in a kid that would turn out to be a hextech hacking genius. I'm sure that unlike Vander and Vi he had the resources to give Jinx a workshop and whatever tools/materials she wanted which def aided in her finally getting her inventions to work.

    So i wanted to give my view on one specific thing jinx's puppets for Milo and her other lost friend. Jinx has not, for the entire season, accepted the reality of what she did. She only does so in that final scene, a twisted "last supper" for her past. The puppets are the materialisation of her reaction of reality. For her, clagger and Milo are alive, sitting right there with her. She even hears their voices. Only once she shoots her secret weapon and destroys her past the voices stop. Powder is no more and jinx can thrive

    He is a good father. He loves her unconditionally even more than his dreams or life. He trusts her completely and thinks she is perfect. He was probably a bad father but they grew to love eachother. He is just a bad person with a really messed up kid. He probably can't fix her nor thinks she should be fixed and in their world crazy and violent is what a lot of them need to survive. Just something normal ppl in a good world can't see.

    Silco, a good father? No. But Jinx does change him, just as he changed her. You cannot spend years with a person in your life without being changed. For Silco, the change is especially insidious. He is ruthlessly driven to achieve his goals...yet at the moment of victory, he found that there was something he couldn't do.

      From what we were shown Silco was always a good father to jinx. He is just a violent person in a violent environment that eats weak people like powder. He protected her and guided her to the best of his knowledge. Imo Silco isn't even a villain, more like an antihero who appears evil and plays antagonist for a short period of the story, but not the whole thing. I think the show asks wheter the means justify the result. Rebelling against oppression is a good thing. Sacrificing innocent life isn't. And neither Vander nor Silco were willing to sacrifice Jinx. Both Vander and Silco needed to experience fatherhood to be able to understand the harm their actions are doing. It was Vander who got Powders Parents killed. Silco didn't even kill Vi, but he did embrace a innocent girl in the need of help, because he could see his pain in her. Whats a good father, but a dude who is trying to do his best? You can't blaime them for the world they were born into.

    Always loved that Silcos words "youre perfect" are because he was always changed by how Vander betrayed him, so to have Jinx kill him to save her sister was the biggest show of loyalty from her in his eyes

    • @nostalji93
      @nostalji93 16 днів тому

      Omg I never thoght of this but it makes sense. I was confused how he could say that after Jinx clearly just experienced a psychological meltdown. One thing though. He didn't resent Vander for his betrayel. In his opinion it made him stronger. So technically Jinx betrayed Silco to protect family. Similar to how Vander "betrayed" Silco also to protect two little girls who he basicly adopts. I still think Silco must be delusional by his love for Jinx to feel like she is "perfect".

  • @moonlight2870
    @moonlight2870 20 днів тому

    Silco is a terrible person, but he has the same abandonment issues as Jinx. Vander was his brother. And Vander betrayed him. He sees a lot of himself on Jinx. That's why he didn't kill her. Yes, he lies to her, he manipulates her. Like I said, terrible person. But he did mean it when he said he rather lose Zawn than lose Jinx. And I think for many people who watched the show, that's what makes him a 'good father'. Because those people are also traumatized children who would love to have a father willing to give up the world for them.

    I think it's also interesting as a parallel to episode 2. In episode 2, Vandar has no idea what he's going to do until Vi gives herself up and Vandar goes to take the fall for her. Vi was willing to give herself up for peace and to prevent those around her from being harmed. Jinx harmed others and set up the whole tea party because she did not want to be given up, and shattered peace at the mere idea of it. Jinx couldn't allow herself to accept any responsibility for her actions while she subconsciously knew she had killed them- and Silco encouraged it. So her fatal flaw of an inability to accept full responsibility for her actions (and thus learn and not repeat her mistakes) leads to the end.

    Silco taking Jinx as one last jab at Vander may have been a beginning positive for why he should, but he didn't think of it like that by the end, and the scene before Jinx kidnaps him is the one that tells it as it is. Syldavia and Borduria in the lore are two opposing nations, one communist and part of the USSR, the other not. It’s no wonder Rastapopoulos tried to flee towards Borduria at the end of the film. No western police agent could have looked for him there without risking escalating the conflict.

    The shows writing of Moral Ambiguity and the intrinsic multitude of interpretations that come with it get lost in taking one's own subjective perspective as the objective truth. Much like people in reality; Words, actions and intentions can be inferred differently to the truth of what is actually implied. We are often rewarded just as much as we are punished for what we personally hold to be truly virtuous or correct endeavours. Often too blinded by our own self-righteous belief in being right to be able to see how we could possibly be wrong, it is human to desire being subjectively right over being objectively correct. We find solace in the confirmation of our bias, because we feel shame and suffering when confronted with information that contradicts our beliefs. It's painful, we actively and subconsciously avoid all pain where possible. Such mental & emotional forms of pain aren't exempt, no matter how minor they may seem at face value. The best course of remedying the issue is to be more flexible in your own perspective. "It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it (or rejecting it, one might add).” - The "Quote" likely being an oversimplification and misunderstanding of Aristotle Nicomachean Ethics 1094b24-1095a by Lowell L. Bennion in his book Religion and the Pursuit of Truth 1989. Nicomachean Ethics 1094b2-1095a “It is right that we ask [people] to accept each of the things which are said in the same way: for it is the mark of an educated person to search for the same kind of clarity in each topic to the extent that the nature of the matter accepts it. For it is similar to expect a mathematician to speak persuasively or for an orator to furnish clear proofs! Each person judges well what they know and is thus a good critic of those things. For each thing in specific, someone must be educated [to be a critic]; to [be a critic in general] one must be educated about everything.” Essentially, that oversimplification and misunderstanding lead to a quote that embodies the means to overcome the negative connotations that often come with facing contradiction and interpreting the plethora of interpretations that can come from such Moral Ambiguity. 14:02 Food for thought... (Pun absolutely intended)

    This may be a biased opinion to those who consider it a classic but in my opinion I think it’s kinda overrated because Aurora or Queen Leah didn’t have a enough screen time or dialogue and King Stefan is a very inconsistent character as he shouldn’t have been if Hans Conried were to remain as a voice actor for the role and not just a model. Overall it’s still an artistcally good movie with incredible animation, acting (except for Taylor Holmes), and score by George Bruns. And you’re right, their scene should have been right at the beginning and not the middle so Aurora and Leah could have given some more dialogue and screen time. I also wish Hubert were to start with reddish brown hair before it becomes white in later scenes after the beginning.

    THIS really IS the ultimate animated Disney movie and if you press pause [ II ] on any indoor scene you can truly marvel at the most beautiful and detailed artwork ever put on film in all of animation history. No shortcuts or cut and pastes. THERE are 2 cool art styles, the striking 'origami-ish' (or whatever it's called) effect and then the museum worthy backgrounds where the interior design was PAINSTAKINGLY painted frame by frame which Is absolutely stunning. (Again pause to see) ONE OF THE THINGS I LOVE about old Disney movies is THAT it is ok for a BADDIE to just be BAD and evil - we DON'T need to justify their actions. Just as in real life there are bad people that shouldnt be allowed sympathy. A good moral lesson for upholding a good society in general. The MALEFESCENT FILM was great BUT I hated it for pandering to explain why its good to be evil or trying to justify a baddie. For instance, the person who punches and robs ones gran doesnt need to be pandered with justification. Bad is bad and good is good in fairytales. Sleeping Beauty is ✨🏆✨

    Just because a character is tragic doesn't mean they're not a villain. Villain doesn't mean Skeletor or Megatron, evil is evil and villains are villains, it doesn't matter if they had a bad childhood or were put through trauma or suffered some great betrayal or lost a loved one. In the case of Jinx she fits all of these but that doesn't matter. Villains are still human, being sympathetic doesn't change that.

    people who believe that silco was a good father were unknowingly manipulated just like powder was. sure, he took her in but after what? after kidnapping her father and attempting to kill her young brothers. unknowingly setting it in motion for powder to accidentally kill them in a attempt to help, and then take her in because she has nowhere else to go and she’s very obviously traumatized. this is prime manipulation, he completely destroyed her world and yes, i believe he cares for her, but in the process of adopting her he completely isolated her, taught her to be dangerous and erratic and only allowed her mental issues to fester and grow. the issue is that not only is he aware of these issues, (im assuming because he doesn’t question her hallucinations and obviously has been with her for years) he doesn’t care. he tries to “remake” her in a way that only he understands, (pushing her under the water in the lake) which i believe is his way of teaching her that she can only be strong when she’s jinx, and trying to have her let go of powder. and it doesn’t work because jinx is not like him. that’s where the blind leading the blind come in and it’s upsetting that people see their relationship as positive when the divide in jinx completely had came from silco, yet they will say it was vi’s fault and demonize her when vi has done nothing but try to help jinx because she loves her unconditionally, but due to the circumstances can’t reach her sister anymore

      @3nq838 One thing about humans is that growing up is a lie. The past is what made them and it's the present that defines them. Every person they come across has equal opportunities to mold another as they want so long as they learned how but knowing how it's done still doesn't fully protect them from being manipulated themselves. Silco bringing in Jinx was never with the intent to use her and his expression said as such. He looks at her like he was seeing a younger him that was just nearly murdered by one he called family and it was that connection that made him choose to take her in. But considering their lifestyle, teaching her how to shoot was a must and her going on missions is likely because of the subordinates' complaints over the years that lead to her first steps into becoming a killer. I can also imagine that him finding out she liked engineering lead to him choosing to make use of her skills for their group. But while I can't call him the best parent nor a good human, he wanted to try and she was the reason he began to change.

      @@3nq838 it's a huge misreading of Act One if you think Jinx only developed mental illness after being in Silco's care. Or that she only developed a willingness to be violent because of him too. As Powder, her goal was always to be able to make working bombs and she was already a good shot. She looked forward to being able to kill enforcers and strike back against Piltover. She also already had terrible self-esteem, an identity extremely dependent on Vi's validation, and no close ties outside of Vi or Ekko. She was already starting to hallucinate...Jinx was never going to grow up to be completely stable. I do think she probably would've directed her violence more purposefully and had less intense hallucinations if she grew up with Vi.

    Silco is a bad father, but he was still a loving one. At the last moment though, he did one thing right as a "good father". He showed forgiveness and moreover (I think), understanding for Jinx/Powder to have chosen Vi in his eyes and expressed his feelings of genuine care until the very last moment. It was just all too late. Please don't get the idea I'm glorifying the relationship. Silco is a terrible person. Personally Flying Walrus's video described this relationship the best. A blind person leading the blind, a beautiful painting drawn by blood. Silco did his best, and his best was terrible.

    One of the things I’ll always love and find myself appreciating this movie (besides Maleficent and its stunning painting imagery ofc), Princess Aurora (Briar Rose) actually has more character than other people has viewed her to be. Yes, her character didn’t get enough screentime nor was she necessarily an active character. However, Aurora DOES have more personality besides her being “beautiful and having Mary Costa’s iconic voice”. For instance, Aurora immediately knew that the three fairies are planning something for her birthday and decided to play along for the sake of the surprise and the fun of it. She then complains to her animal friends that her three aunts treated her like a child, never allowing her to meet anyone. She feels slightly discontented and longing to see the outside other than the forest and where her cottage was. She also can be slightly rebellious, i.e; having forbidden fantasies at the expense of knowing that the three fairies told her not to speak to strangers or anyone. Aurora teasingly told her animal friends that she has met a stranger (a prince if you will), “I fooled them, I have met someone”. She sway as she illustrates her story and demonstrates the enchanting bits of it until she drops an anticlimactic cliffhanger “And then…I wake up”. She’s also a dreamer and was very imaginative, using it as her coping mechanism to bear through her seclusion. Moreover through the encounter of Philip, Aurora was immediately uncomfortable and backing away when a guy (the prince) suddenly approached to her. She knew she wasn’t supposed to speak to strangers and even acted slightly dismissive to him, but when she saw the guy was willingly seeking her to dance, she decided to play coy and be like “You wanna dance? Alright then, let’s dance boi!”. In the heat of the moment, Aurora eventually lets her guard down and happily dances with him. As the angelic choir finishes off the song, Philip asked for her name but that made Aurora realized at that moment, the situation got too real for her. She was so carried away dancing with that handsome dude she had just met in the middle of the woods, that she must’ve almost thought she was in another one of her dreams; but when he asks who she is, she realizes they’ve gone past the point where she would normally wake up, and this isn’t clearly a vision. At this time, this was the first man or person she’s ever interacted with in her entire life, and she doesn’t know how to handle her emotions. She’s overwhelmed but also highly cautious. With her conflicting moral values, she decides to devise a plan and tell the prince to meet her by the cottage in the glen this evening as she fled home for her safety. When she returned to the cottage feeling content and clearly in love, the three fairies reveal the revelation that she was actually a princess and already betrothed. Aurora was stunned and also devastated by not only forcing to dump that handsome fella (who she doesn’t know was the prince yet), but also because her whole life was a lie, her destiny was already sealed by being betrothed to ever since she was a baby. As they head to the castle, Aurora is quiet and gloomy. Upon seeing herself by the mirror, now a crowned princess, Aurora breaks down sobbing. The reality sets in for her, her dreams no longer matter but her duty as princess. And what comes to worse, Maleficent already lured Aurora to her curse and Aurora pricked her finger as Maleficent’s predestined curse has been fulfilled. Despite Aurora’s 18 minutes of screentime, her character still had a lot to offer during those sequences. Yes, she’s definitely not the most-developed princesses compared to the likes of Rapunzel, Belle, Mulan or even Cinderella. Nevertheless, Aurora did have her moments and isn’t a shallow character that most people interpret her as such. Disclosure of bias, Aurora is definitely somewhere in my top five Disney Princesses xD

    Me and my sister re-watched this movie recently and surprisingly ended up liking Philip and Aurora's personalities and relationship. They love their parents (the king and the fairies) but at the same time they KNOW that the parents are incompetent and fickle and so they act as the reasonable ones. The fairies couldn't cook clean or sew, so Aurora was the one running the house (also when the fairies ask her to pick flowers so she would leave for them prepare the surprise party, Aurora KNEW what they were doing and she shows it by her facial expression and body language) and while Philip is as passionate and carefree as his dad, he is really committed and level headed: the guy is attacked by a horde of gremlins, kidnapped by a witch and STILL didn't abandoned Aurora, the person who made him the witch's target, while the king is quick to anger and changes of opinion (Philip didn't even blink when he was threatened with disowning because he knew it was a fit of the moment and the king in the end would accept whatever Philip said anyways.) Also yes, Aurora had her whole life shattered in front of her eyes one second to another, so there's a good part of the movie she spends almost catatonic even before the spindle and Maleficent told Phillip about the kiss when he was in her dungeon as a form of taunting, so in the movie he kissed her SPECIFICALLY because he knew it would wake her up.

    This film has a special place for me in Disney's filmography. While it is unfortunately let down a bit by Aurora and Phillip, as you point out, the movie still does a lot to make its scenes pop in its animation and music, and some scenes (particularly that climax) really do stand toe to toe with some of the best Disney has ever done. Maleficent remains one of the best Disney villains for a reason, can't match that swagger.

    I believe Silco was a good dad… in the context of what he believes that to be. I think he was genuinely trying to help her not become another him. It was the weakness of family that led to Vander being able to betray him, so he tries to eliminate those bonds in Jinx so she would never feel that pain. He uses her skills, but he doesn’t berate her for making mistakes, and she’s constantly making mistakes. The second the chem barons got a little mouthy he poisoned them all, but Jinx literally makes accusations to his face and stabs him with his eye thing and he just allows it. Silco only knows how to survive at any costs, so he rids Jinx of her morals, and teaches her how to kill, lie and cheat so she’d make it in Zaun and not be eaten alive. She constantly causes trouble for him. If she was just his weapon, he would’ve discarded her after the flying ship, or tormenting Sevika, or going off the rails to agitate Piltover before they were ready to fight them. The cons just don’t seem worth the pros after a certain point, and he paid a “friendly” visit to Marcus’ daughter for much, much less.

      Yeah... I'm not glorifying Silco, but honestly? People really do gloss over Vander's parenting failures. He really didn't prepare his kids for life in Zaun. They were already stealing from Piltover, which is what set everything into motion. Ultimately, his capitulation for "peace" failed the people he wanted to protect probably as much as war would have.
