PPP 427 | Why Attachment Theory is a Game-Changer for Leading Teams and Projects, with Dr. Judy Ho
Summary
In this episode, Andy speaks with Dr. Judy Ho, a clinical and forensic neuropsychologist, about her new book, The New Rules of Attachment: How to Heal Your Relationships, Reparent Your Inner Child, and Secure Your Life Vision .
Seriously? Attachment theory? Reparenting your inner child? What does this have to do with leading teams and projects? You'll find out in this episode!
Andy and Judy delve into the importance of attachment in leadership and how understanding attachment styles can impact leadership and team dynamics. Dr. Ho discusses the different attachment styles: avoidant, anxious, and disorganized, and their influence on self-concept and behavior in professional settings. The conversation highlights key strategies for leaders to recognize and adjust to the attachment styles of their team members.
Before you're done, you'll have a new appreciation for attachment theory and its practical applications for personal and team development.
Sound Bites
"It's really about learning these practical strategies to clear up your mind so that you feel the most effective when you come up to a stressful situation."
"This idea of psychological safety, it basically has the same effect on our bodies and our minds as physical safety."
"It's really all about clearing cognitive space, especially when you're stressed."
"The ability to be able to even name how they're feeling. Often when people have insecure attachment, they have this phenomenon that we psychologists call alexithymia."
"We are social beings, and we need to stay connected to others to be able to achieve everything that we need to achieve."
"It's amazing how these things still continue to impact us years after, even when those situations and circumstances have changed."

Sorry for "dumb" OT comment but I realized Mr. Grant looks like Ben Sparks from Numberphile. (Which is the reason I clicked the thumbnail -- silly but sometimes that's how podcasts/people get discovered...) Great podcast, nevertheless. 🙂 Congrats on your 400th episode! 🥳

This is really helpful, but wow-it took me a while to understand that you were making a horizontal timeline, what the lines were for, etc. A little more explanation would be helpful for raw beginners (like me). your previous vid was about compiling tasks and making silos, so ordering them over a period of time wasn't clear to me. Anyway, thanks.

Take a project of uploading all the lectures and topics of project management. Sequencing your work give you an idea that even though you thought you don’t have time you can send your kids to Disney world and your wife to the swimming pool and you can make the videos. It’s possible. Hopefully you actually invest your time in doing so as your explanation in a rare commodity in the world of oblivious UA-cam. 🙌🏻

You make a good point, Charles. There are two ways to do it, both yielding the same critical path. I do it this way because it's how tools like MS Project do it. But I understand your point.

I had a quick question! One of my professors taught this differently. What I mean by that is the ES of activity A in his class would be zero, there was no add duration -1, and over divides there was no addition or subtraction at all. For example, in his class, where you went from activity A to B the EF of A would have been 2, as 0 + 2 = 2 and the ES of B would also be 2. There is a large point of contention in my mind here and I would like to know which method is correct. However, I suppose they could also both be correct with different ways of doing it. Any clarification would be appreciated and I hope you can understand my example! Thanks! P.S: Great Video!

    • @PeopleAndProjectsPodcast
      @PeopleAndProjectsPodcast 2 роки тому

Good observation! Both techniques can work. I feel like your professor's approach is a little bit easier, but the way I show it in this video ends up with early start and early finish values that match what you would find in a tool like Microsoft Project. Regardless, don't hesitate to follow up with any questions. Thanks!

That there are thousands of traumatized and starving animals--we don't see that. We see piles of uneaten food and water not drunk."
