I came here to hear this solo because Vinnie Colaiuta himself in one of his podcasts mentioned Frankie Dunlop and this solo. He said he's very underrated and that this solo is a masterclass in phrasing. He's right!
That was sick!!
Superb!❤️
Mark you are amazing.
Frankie was a superb drummer 👌 👏 😍
i hear 32nd note at the end insteaad sextuplet
Great transcription and wonderful playing.
Fantastic for that time !👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Did you know you can use all four beats at once?
Very dynamic player!
Lots of that was,nt 16th I think! Could be wrong just swinging the shit out of it! Sounded more triplety to me!
Yummy!!
Thanks for this transcription 🙂
Fabulous Frankie 👌
Beautiful drum solo
The drummer from Clown Core is better
Surely you mean Clown Cole?
@@CastleKnight7 i don't follow
Frankie Dunlop tensioned his toms kinda like Max. He was a superb drummer with very hip ideas.
Before or after anyone here can get distracted with their natural awe for this inspirational performance I'd like to ground the chat here with some universal factors. When it comes to transcribing such performances one can begin to see what in science they call constants. So for example A. this performance has constant features of a left hand centric ghost note fill in sequencing which sees accent notes being shadowed by certain diddled left hand ghost note chatter. B. The hi hat is exclusively right hand lead with a lot of very difficult doubling of the left hand strokes as well as linear playing of the eight note riff while the left hand fills in the empty 16th note spaces. C. And finally the bass drum playing which is really a strong anchor and focus point as it is easily the identifying melody voice in this performance. Technically I could break this down as a break beat driven style that is best understood as the hand patterns being played in and around the bass drum note strokes. He is leading with his right foot in this even though his hands seem to be doing all the work. All the limbs have clear and distinct roles and purpose. The bass drum is the melody. The hi hat the time reference but also obscurer when it doubles over certain left hand strokes instead of being a constant to which the left hand strokes dance around like traditional break beats. The left hand is for me the real tell of deliberate sequencing. The accented notes are never doubled yet the ghost notes almost exclusively so. Even though I can attempt to reduce this performance to it's constant components as a means to properly transcribe or later try learn , I cannot however break down nor transcribe the sheer musical intelligence this guy has for his choices. He has selected the role of each limb. Selected the voices each limb played. Selected the way he could play it and all and create it all. He chose a bass drum melody voice. He plays a left hand drum and bass stylised chatter that retains the style but now fit and suited around his free and expressive bass drum melody (very jazz sounding btw). Finally his right hand plays the time but he freely and expressively crosses in and out of that time keeping role by extending the hi hat patterns onto the off beats where the snare drum ghost notes occupy. His improvisation is free but also grounded and clear. The real thing one cannot transcribe is his instincts. If anyone here disagrees about his making choices , please notice how he doesn't cross over the roles of the limbs as I theorise above. No left hand hi hat lead nor snare drum melody anchor points. He composed this in his head and brought it to life physically. A musician of greatness
Best comment ever
@@HScripturez i hope not sarcastic haha thanks bro
my favorite of the late Monk drummers. He swung like a mofo
Nice try - nect time pat your foot when you try to transcribe
It's true transcription
Great transcription but it still doesn’t make it easier to play lol
Now this id is a solo not a fancy display of chops

I'm pretty sure there are AIs for this today
@@rearedrain9722 Pretty sure you'll develop your ears and become a much better musician by actually sitting down to transcribe difficult things.
@@ianstambaugh6158 totally agree, every drummer has a style and by listening to them a lot it becomes easy to transcribe and learn from them
Rhythm equivalent of perfect pitch lol
