Dreamcatcher Apparatus is a twenty-level megawad for Doom II designed for limit removing source ports created by various members of the Doomer Boards community, led by Jon Vail (40oz). It was released on the Doomer Boards forums and the Doomworld forums on May 1, 2022 and is the forty-seventh entry in the ongoing Doomer Boards Projects. The mapset features a dark techbase / cosmic dimension theme and features a custom palette designed to give the maps a dreamy atmosphere. I don't get it... 28:21 Every time I go through that zone, the demons come and attack me before I could use the switch to kill them, and thus... I have to cheat. Is there a condition to make them stand, or is a fail in the Wad?
Are these Doomguy's memories or pieces of the author's ideas for maps? Hmmm, I like the ambiguity. The overcharged mode for the plasma rifle is fantastic!

What a tough map, you need to be so careful where you step, there are so many nasty traps everywhere and so many damn arch-viles. Also important is the order, I dropped into the cyber pit way too early and got roasted instantly. Definitely the most unabashedly Sunlusty of the set. Great execution!
Thanks dude, ya the cyber pit was a bit of a dice role for me. Sometimes the Cyber just doesn't infight and then you're cooked!

Lots going on in this map, it's a damn labyrinth! Many cruel traps but that double arch-vile ambush at 18:28 really made me go wtf, a fully deserved headshake! ...and then there's the Phantasm hunt, Jesus. I have to admit that the gathering for Unholy Mass at the end is pretty cool though.
Haha, those Archviles are revealed normally if you enter the library first. I messed up on this playthrough, hence the exasperation 😂

Thank you! I'm not sure to be honest, Sunlust Map 20 and a few NERF maps gave me a lot of trouble too! Issue maxing this map is how long it is, I'd get 20 minutes in and get mauled by a Baron
@@MancubianCandidate That's fair, Sunlust Map 20 is quite a beast (haven't played NERF yet). I'd honestly say Umbreion Nils could top this... that final fight is straight up gnarly.

Honestly have no idea, I played it on dsda Doom using Software Rendering so maybe it's handled differently on other source ports as you said!
@@enjoylife6374 same thing happened with me here and I don’t know why. I played this on GZDoom so yeah maybe it was a source port issue? You could see the actual maze path carved out on the map but running into invisible walls when looking forward. It made it way more frustrating than it needed to be.
Absolute bonkers, I love this game and this map is a creative triumph (perfect zany MIDI too), but the stuff that modern mappers come up with sometimes makes my head spin. Congrats on finishing the wad and huge respect for not giving up, that was some of the most disciplined and patient pathing and herding I've seen. Fun fact: on UV there are 67 (!) barons, so that makes one item for every baron. GG!

Congratulations on beating this and the wad in general. Fair to say this is Dobu’s piece de resistance and shows how mean a UDoom map can be, even when the monster count isn’t overly high. Glad you enjoyed the wad overall, despite the surprisingly high hurdles at times.

Oh yes, this map! I could say a lot of things about this one but this was definitely one of the best designed maps I’ve played in a while and certainly lives up to its name. If I hadn’t have known, I’d say the music track was made for this map. It goes so well with the overall landscape and definitely gives it a creepy and sinister undertone. Anywho, well done here! 😊

@@dreadwanderer It's a tough one so don't worry! Those Sunlust-like Traps/encounters are very tough if you haven't been through them before, the fights have a very different vibe than "normal" Doom encounters
how on earth do you clear 6:11 ? my screen just goes red the moment enemies start popping in, it feels kinda cheap ngl
It is indeed very tough. What I found worked, is run in a U shape until everything is infighting (especially getting the archnotrons to hit the archvile). Once the Archie is distracted, go straight for it and the archnotrons to make space. You should be good after that!
@@MancubianCandidate yeah i ended up going for infighting first then got to work making a safe area, i'm not sure if the screen flashing is a little more intense on the kex version of doom because it looks like it lingers a little less on your vid

Yes, it's intended. The Cyberdemon is there as a fake out/jump scare

It's been quite a while since I played this but I think you press the yellow key switch to the best of my knowledge. Bear in mind, I recorded this video on a Beta version of the map set so this could have been changed

Revisiting this map, the design was pretty solid overall, plus a hell of slugfest at the end to top it all off. Didn’t really care for the choice of midi though but that’s just me.
