is your 81 in the bridge or neck? I know Adam d uses an 85 in his bridge. I have an 81 85 set and am thinking about putting the 85 in the bridge and the 81 in the neck of my Charvel So-Cal in the pic
it's in the bridge. Tried 85 there, but it was bit dark for all mahogany guitar. You should definitely try and find if it suits your guitar, tuning, and sound you're after.

Francis Castiglione painkiller bro, or Blackhawk, you need something that pushes the higher frequencies more, those woods have a Warmer characteristic, so go with something that has a tighter bottom end, don’t get the aftermath, it lacks in the higher frequencies, I’m sure you already made your decision giving it’s been 3 years lol.

This is drop A right? Isn't the top string too weak to play with it? I mean, you have to release it a lot to get A.
it's actually AGCFAD, so drop C, then you drop just C string to A. I have this guitar set for drop C, so only the A string was looser than what i like. It was going sharp quite a lot.

Niceee! Dude, 1 question, are the emg´s 81 85 better than the duncan pickups for this guitar?
+Carlos Lavín in my research conducted, they both are good pick ups, the duncans have better clean, but the distortion has a darker tone, making them ideal of death metal stuff. emg seems to be better for thrash, metalcore rock ect ect...
I think painkillers work well with low tunnig + mahogany type guitars, punching high mids while perhaps for a swamp ash will work better an aftermath
