Well ran mate.solid effort, put in a proper shift 👏
Thank you! It's a little slower than I hoped for, but I'll take it in those conditions!
Great run Matt. Pity missing the 20 minutes. If lady in nice leggings had been on your shoulder 20 seconds earlier you would have beat it. 🏃♂️👍
Thanks Jeff. Ay, it was a bit of a shame I missed 20, though I should have been taking it a bit easier anyway.. I had a cross country race on that afternoon !
Another good run matt. sprint challenge at end 👍 Lovely Location.
Cheers Paul, yeah got challenged a bit at the end, fortunately managed to hold her off!
Brilliant run at one of the iconic parkrun events. I've been to fountains a few times as a tourist but never done the parkrun. Definitely one day when I'm in the area!
Thank you Garth, ay, it is pretty cool to run round. It was the first time I've been and as it was on the way to a cross country race we were heading to, thought we'd stop by!
🤣🤣🤣 They should know better than to activate sprint mode!! 🤣🤣🤣 If the challenge had come 100m earlier....would have been a sub 20 👊 Nice to see a bit of home brought back memories of school trips to Fountains Abbey!
Ha ha, yeeeah 🤣 I don't know if I would have been able to maintain a charge long enough at the end to get me under 20, but would've had to try though, eh ! It is a nice location, is it as you remember it?
@@MattClarry It was indeed!...Great coverage!
A great start to the new year and even better given the conditions. Nice one Matt.
Cheers Keith. Yeah the conditions we're the best ever. It was getting interesting after the river started to flow over the low bridge!
I was pacing 28 mins, great run mate hopefully you enjoyed it
Ah, cool. Yeah I really enjoyed it, you've got a great venue there !
Mr Vegan using his veggie fart power to pass you near the end.
Very nice heart rate control
Cheers Paul, not sure how it stayed so level !
Well ran matt close to under the 20 👍 All the best for 2025
Cheers Paul, ay, wasn't too far off it this time ! Hope you have a good '25 too!
@@MattClarryI thought it was on but close. Looking strong Good luck
Watched the whole race, great run. Closed 2024 with a 20:50 PB
Thank you! Congratulations on the PB!
@MattClarry Is that insta360
I use a GoPro hero 10
Cracking run to start the new year, broke your course PB! 👊
Cheers Stuart, Yeah it was nice getting the course PB, even if it was just scraped by a second!
Great running Matt I'm sure that's a CPB for you even with the bad conditions well done. can you bring the sunshine with you next year its normally sunny when you visit us?.
Cheers Jamie, yeah its a PB, just by 1 second, but it still counts. Yeah, think that was probably the dampest its been when I've been there, I'll try and bring the sun, next time !
@@MattClarry I was around 22 seconds down off my normal times with the bad weather so 1 second PB is massive mate!
Great running nearly under 20's, I went to Brierley Forest which had a deep 100m puddle 😂Happy New Year🏃♂!
Cheers! Yeah, almost had it! Wow, that sounds like it would've been interesting to navigate! Happy New Year to you too !
Decent pace in what looked like bad conditions. Are you hunting the sub 20 mate?
Thank you! Yeah, conditions weren't great for going quick, nor were the trainers! Ay, always trying to get sub 20, had a few good ones under this year, but not recently it sadly!
Great running Matt especially given the conditions and Terrain... Is that a wrap for 2024? You must be happy with 2024 as you've been very consistent and quick throughout? Wishing you the best for 2025...
Cheers Keith! Yeah, that's it for running in '24 for me! I've been reasonably happy overall. And I've been happy with some of the parkrun performances this year, had some nice sub 20s, some way under, but not been able to build on and maintain it, which has been a bit frustrating! Hopefully I'll be able to get there in '25! Happy New Year to you too!
Happy new Year Matt!
Thank you! Happy New Year to you too!
Well done, that's an excellent time given the surface in places. My times drop off on a poor surface much more than yours appear to do!
Cheers Garth! I was a bit disappointed with the pace, even on the hard ground I wasn't about to hold a good speed with the trail shoes, I'm definitely blaming those!
@MattClarry time of year is likely a factor too, the cold weather. I'm at least a minute off the sort of pace I'm happy with atm. But that's happened before and it soon seems to return when the weather improves.
Yeah, could be. Hopefully it won't take long to come back!
Well done Matt are you on strata I will follow you John comrie
Thank you John ! Yeah, I'm on Strava, same profile name !
Well done, Matt 💪 I just checked my NENDY list, and I have another 92 to do before I get to this one 😅 Might be a while yet!
Thanks Mark ! It is a nice parkrun, though you might want to time it for when its been dry, those grass sections are challenging when its damp.. when you get round to it !
Great job ! How did you get your metrics up on the video?
Thank you.! I use Garmin's Virb software to overlay my watch data onto the video.
13:15 This is the part that can ruin this Parkrun and cost you vital seconds. They know people are coming up behind them but still choose to take up the whole path.
Ay, it can be tricky sometimes getting through when it's busy
@@MattClarry I'm off there today. Merry Christmas!
Ah, cool, have a Great Christmas and a great run!
Well done Matt and merry christmas 🏃🏻♂️
Thank you Paul. And a Merry Christmas to you too!
That's still an excellent time. It often feels worse when you are on your own, your mind plays tricks on you. Some very speedy people there today!
Thank you Garth, didn't have the pace in the legs this time to go any quicker. Yeah, there were some very quick ones out there !
Cracking time Matt! especially as so rugged up! (must be chilly 🤔🥶🤣 Only 41 deg here today!! 🥵☀Have a great Christmas and New year! thanks for all the content and here's to a great 2025 👊🦾🏃❤🤍💙
Cheers Stuart, yeah, it was a bit on the chilly side, about 6 deg with a cold wind blowing, not quite the 41 you're having! Thank you and I hope you have a great Christmas and New Year too!
Well done pal
Thanks John !
@MattClarry have done Roth Park run
I've done Rotherham and Rother Valley parkruns, both very different courses to each other, got my eye on Rothay Park parkrun, though not sure when I'll be doing it yet!
what do you use to film these on please?
Hi, I use a GoPro Hero 10 black, on a chest mount
@@MattClarry ok thank you.. i was wondering as its not moving around much
I just use its own built in stabilisation, it is quite remarkable how much it steadies the picture!
Great to see the resulting vid and nice to meet you at the end, thanks for filming my local run 😁
Was good meeting you too, glad you like the video, will have to return again in the new year when it's a bit firmer underfoot!
Did this back in 2019. It’s completely changed didn’t recognise it at all. Enjoying your content Matt.
Ah, cool! I think the course changed last year sometime, to avoid a crossing or a road. I'm glad you're enjoying the videos!
Great run Matt, you probably lost a couple of places with the lace ( Double Knots). Still a good time on muddy course. Impressed with young blue top .
Cheers Jeff, I usually do double knot them, not sure why not this time, won't make that mistake again! Ay, he as very quick!
Good tussle with the lad in blue, fair play to him the way he shot off out that slow turn. Think he can thank you for his pb 😅
Yeah, he came pretty much to a dead stop, turned then flew off. After that, I couldn't catch him again! I'm going to claim credit for his PB 😉
Solid on that course Matt! 🦾 Looked a bit lumpy in the middle!
Cheers Stuart, yeah, it was a little. Bit soft underfoot on the grass too!
Nice running, Matt. Appreciate the videos. I'm planning to do some more of the parkruns around Chesterfield and Sheffield next year.
Thank you Mark! I'm glad you're enjoying them and finding them useful! There are a bunch of fun and challenging parkruns in and around Sheffield and Chesterfield, I think you'll enjoy exploring and running them!
00:06 those are Sarah and Tom from the The Running Channel. Cool
It was indeed! I did overhear her at the end saying that was the toughest parkrun she's ever done!
Great running Matt!! Jaysus those rolling hills are steep in parts and it doesn't seem that the downhill is half as long 😉 You managed the hills quite well throughout. Looks a hard park run...
Cheers Keith! Yeah those hills are a killer! I think the only flat part was the 30 metres at the top corner of the course, before the sweep down to the start/finish. Much like Grave Park. you're either going up or down, very rarely going flat!
Crackn run Matt! 37 deg here today so needed that vid to cool down!! 🥵🤣👊
Cheers Stuart! Oh wow, thats nice and toasty, glad I could be of some help ! 🤣
Good running Matt on that kind of terrain versus the Tarmac and a good time. Was the grass fairly solid - it didn't sound wet?
Cheers Keith. I'd say it was soft underfoot but not soggy, though there were a couple softer squelchier areas, mainly on the upper side going between the fields, the rest was in good condition, but definitely a day for the tail shoes!
Great run Matt. Conditions didn’t look good. Did you wear trail shoes?. The runner in blue was fast away but didn’t pace it very well. Black 100 just took off . Never mind always next week 🤣👍
Cheers Jeff! Conditions weren't great, but yeah, I had trail shoes on, would've been too sketchy with road shoes on, I think. Ay, as blue shirt dropped back, I thought I might have a chance at first finisher, but then 100 took off and disappeared into the distance and that was that! I've had one first finish, fingers crossed I'll get another one day!
Did you ask for a re-run? 🤔🤣👊
Something like that!
Not an easy course and I think you actually went longer that is my local park run
No, its not an easy one by any stretch, especially in those conditions, Even with the extra diversions, it didn't seem to add too much extra on at the end. It is a nice park, spent a lot of time there when I was young!
Signed up to do this in Jan. Can’t wait!!!
Ah, cool, I'm sure you'll enjoy it! I'll be doing the winter edition for the first time, this January too!
@ Great - hope you enjoy. Fingers crossed for no snow and ice.
Should be interesting either way, I suspect it'll be one for the trail shoes this time, either way! Give me a shout if you spot me !
@@MattClarry will do. I will be the one passed out towards the top of stage 2 😂
Well done for going out in those conditions 👏👏👏 looked horrendous !
Cheers ! Yeah the conditions weren't the most pleasant I've ever run in. The driving wind and rain was actually quite painful at times !
Fair play to you for getting through that one Matt... That looked quite hard!
Cheers Keith, yeah, it wasn't the most pleasant run I've ever had ! Can you tell I wasn't really pushing it as much as normal !?
They did well getting the event on today in those conditions. I bet they'd have cancelled for less in the south east, northern grit😂
Yeah, they did, I think it was pretty much the only one running in the area, don't think there were any in Sheffield on, there was one remaining in Lincoln and one in Doncaster, but definitely not a day for tourism, as there were a few last minute cancellations, wouldn't want to travel for an hour, only to get turned back!
We don’t like to cancel at Rotherham if we can help it! Sorry if times were off, I was time keeping and the conditions made it difficult
You did a great job in very difficult conditions! My official time was pretty much exactly the same as my watch time, so I'm happy, albeit still cold ;-)
You were a bit noisy today on the start line Matt! 🤣👊
😂
Yeah, sorry 🤣, That's the sound I make when there is freezing rain, ice on the ground and -5 wind chill and I want to get started to warm up (he didn't, in fact, warm up)!
@@MattClarry 🤣🤣Given the weather I believe you!!🤣Thought I saw your brother running as well?🤔
😂 Yeah, he was there too, as was dad too! They were on their way to Sherwood pines, but diverted to Rotherham due to the last minute cancellation !
Wow is that Ice, Snow on the ground! Last time I saw Ice or Snow on the ground was 1980 something 😂😂
It is indeed snow/ice, or at least the last remnants of it! Had a cold snap and the first snow fall of the season on Tuesday and despite all the rain from Storm Bert, there was still some patches of it.
That was me with the red running buggy! I had no idea you were filming and I was stood next to you 😂. Perfect conditions after the downpour!
Ah ha, nice! You had a lightning start.. then just disappeared off into the distance! Ay, we were pretty fortunate with the condition!
Was always a hard one Matt. Just when you get over an uphill another arrives 🤪 Were you happy enough with the time considering all the up hills?
Yeah, very much so ! I was reasonably happy, would have preferred getting sub 21 for that course, maybe next time !
Tough old beast of a course that!
Yeah it is indeed, I had forgotten how many ups and downs it had!
What camera and mount is this?
I'm using a GoPro hero 10 black and the first version of the GoPro chesty mount.
@@MattClarry seems very stable. Im using gopro 13 and latest chesty and its quite shakey. How did the battery last so long?
That is a surprise, I would've assumed it would be more stable! I have been using the enduro batteries and have been able to complete a half marathon without the need to swap by reducing the frame rate/resolution to 1080/30 from 2.7k60 and turning off WiFi/Bluetooth. Though recently the amount of time they last now does seem to have reduced.
@@MattClarry thats good. Your video came up randomly on up next. Your doing what ive recently started videoing all my parkruns trying to go to lots of different ones. You did my local doncaster one a week after me. Where u from
Ah cool. That'd be Sandall then ? I'm North Notts. based, Clumber is my local parkrun, but I have few others in the area that aren't far away too.
